Quote: First off I would like to say to Dela the only one on here that is ignorant is you. Because it seems like you won't admit that what P2P promotes is not friendly file sharing but stealing.
Here we go again, i never said people dont download copyrighted information or steal as you call it, i said I DONT, just seems some people have had problems listening and understanding english!
And you are ignorant, out and out ignorant. I tried to tell you about how music online could be used in your favour and you responded with posts attempting to insult me but no you didnt do a very good job because i just laughed! So before i said anything about you, you attacked me first for basically no reason!
Quote: obviously nothing will be accomplished on this board because promoters of p2p think it's ok to steal
Nobody on this board thinks its ok to steal as far as i have read. Even gluon who said he does said he knows it is wrong to do it but he does it because it is so easy to do!
I'm not gonna even bother with you man, there is no point in trying to talk to you.
And there is no point in all the arguing either, even though i have been responsible for a significant amount of it, but i did not start it!

Quote: Hey asshole! First off I am more of a musician then ANYONE you will ever know. I have just finished my 3rd cd and I will not tell you who I am no matter what. But you have heard of me I promise.
Hey piledrive, were'nt you saying something about how all of us p2p users are chickenshit and hide behind our computers?
Kind of ironic is'nt it.

You know what Piledrive? You could probably have had a good amount of support from this board however you just had to "enter with guns blazing" attacking everyone left and right. A bit a maturity and tolerance will get you far.

Whoopee. aD caters to people who burn cds. :P

Piledrive - man, you are either a true asshole, or a crappy musician that cant face the facts that you just suck and people dont want to buy your music and this has nothing to do with p2p's. This thread has been filled with good opinions and valid points from both sides, yours and the users of p2p. With your complete disregard for an intelligent conversation, you have enforced the very reason people started slamming on you in the first place. Just based on how you have been slinging the trash talk, and calling people names without even trying to see their point, or have a decent, adult discussion with them, I'm going to fire up every machine i got, both here and at work, and download every freaking full cd and/or song i can find. Just in hopes that some of it might be yours. then i'm going to burn full cd's and make lots and lots of copies of them, then i'm going to set up a little booth on the corner and give them all away. I figure just this weekend i can get close to 100 gigs of music, and it's all going to be on your behalf. we here at aD are very open minded people and i know for a fact that the vast majority of us DO purchase retail cd's because we want the artists we love to be able to continue to make great music for us and if we dont buy it, we wont get it. Nothing comes close to getting a retail cd with full artwork and liner notes and such, no download could ever replace that. So i will continue to purchase my cd's from the record shop, and i will also continue to download music that i might want to buy, just to see if it's worth spending my money on, but I'm also going to go out right now and buy 1000 blank cdr's to fufill my crusade against people like you, the whiny ass wannabee artists that try so desperatly to blame their lack of talent on anything but themselves. I can only hope that by doing this, you miss a meal because of me. so, better get busy writing something for the charts if you want to make it in the music industry.

O.K., I'll go on record as being a thief. But I've never cheated anything from anyone who hasn't cheated me first. It's like, if someone keeps punching you in the face, how long do you 'turn the other cheek' before you hit him back? Yeah, what I'm doing is illegal and possibly immoral, but exactly how long do you expect me to let people rip me off just because they have pressured congress to create laws that make it legal for them to rip me off, but illegal for me to rip them off? Without the laws created for financial interest, it's really just an eye for an eye, and in my mind, that's fair. It's the laws that aren't fair, and the laws are made by the ones with the most power, and money. And they want to keep it that way. As in another post, there are artists that will refuse to sell singles, once again holding hostage the music in order to force people to buy some of their crap in order to get their good product. And those are the ones who are going to spoil it for the rest of the 'honest' musicians that aren't trying to cheat people. Because now that the RIAA is going after p2p, we will just have to share the old fashioned way; make our files available to all our friends, and they can share with their friends. My whole collection could be stored on less than $25 worth of generic dvds, and given to others to use or pass along as they please. Is that what the RIAA wants, or will they stop the foolishness and start marketing things fairly? Some people are just too thick headed to get the message. They're not in a position to stop everyone; it simply cannot be done. And the more they try, the more people will get angry with them.

Just a new spin and my opinion on this:
I'm not going to start on Mp3s.
I'm on P2P and i download games, if i like the game i'll go out and buy it then play it online, but i refuse to pay £30-£50 to buy a game when i have no idea how it plays. I last did this with Nightfire, £35 straight out, and the game is cr*p. If i'd been able to play it for 20 mins before i bought it i would have spent the money on something else.
Now i get a copy, if i think its worth the money i'll buy it.
Am i a thief?

Praetor, Its true I dont always delete a file straight away, even if i dont like it. If I had trouble getting it i leave it on my shared folder for a while (til I need the space again!) but with most pc games if its any good I'll buy a real copy and then i can play online.

Personally, if I dont like it and it was hard to get I feek bad for wasting all that time getting it and i delete it right away. If I dont like a game its gone without a blink.

Piledrive, you are saying that p2p users are "just to chicken shit to do it in person so you hide behind your computers." (talking about stealing) but you're hiding behind the computer and typing this anonymously. I'm sure you're too "chicken shit" to go to a mall or somewhere in public and stand up and scream all this stuff out.

HA! what reputation?!?! The only reputation i see is that of coming in here and acting like an asshole. Any true artist wouldn't whine about his music being heard, whether he got paid for it or not unless...wait....Lars? is that you?

just some thoughts. what if the p2p's did win in court? and let's say that record sales do go down. then what, will people who were aspiring as musicians see that and go 'what a minute, there is no money in the music business,' and then stop making music? then what is music? a product or a form of expression? if i don't pay for my music, does that mean music will disappear? i sincerely don't think so.
i find nothing wrong with file-sharing. in fact i don't consider anyone a thief or a pirate. i would consider you a thief or a pirate if you financially profited from someone else's work, such as bootleggers. i have and will always see music as a form of art. when it comes to creating art, there's two ways. one, to keep it to yourself because it is personal to you. two, you want to share it with others because it touched you in a special way and you are hoping it will touch others in the same way. but if you put a price tag on it, is it really fair to call it art? no, i think you have turned it into a product.

I don't think all musicians will stop making music just because they won't get rich, because most musicians don't get rich anyway but they still play. You just won't see as many very wealthy musicians because they'll have to actually work on a regular basis to get paid; as I said before, just like before recorded music was widely purchased, most musicians made a living by playing 'live', just like most of us go to a job five days a week. They can make a living, but not get rich unless they can fill stadiums on a frequent basis. And surprise surprise, some of them actually prefer to perform in smaller clubs and enjoy the feedback and interaction with the audience. A good example is Les Paul who plays at the iridium every monday, not giant stadium.
