I've read a lot of guides on how to mod PSPs and get the custom firmware etc..they all boggle my mind.
I've read some that tell me I need an unpatched GTA Liberty City..then some saying if I do something without this special battery i'll brick my PSP..etc etc.
So, if I follow the first guide of this thread..make a magic stick and buy the datel(was it Datel, ive forgotten already) battery..I dont need to go through all this unpatched GTA stuff. Then i'll be able to play homebrew/back up games..emulators..etc?
EDIT
OH!
and I think the important bit of it is that I have currently got firmare 2.81 running on my PSP...which is why other guides tell me I apparently need GTA
First of you dont need GTA forget that alltogether, i know what its like as i was confused loads about this too, Just follow this gude step for step and you'll be fine, i done it and i dont regret it one bit now as im playing mega drive, snes and ps1 games on my psp with a vista theme lol, just make sure you got a pc running XP, the datel tool battery, and an offircial sony pro duo memory stick, all of this worked out fine for me and im now running 3.71 m33 4
Nice one..thanks for the reply. You wouldnt believe(or maybe you would if you've had to read the different guides as I did) the amount of forums you get ripped apart on for asking such quetions...for being a "n00b"
No worries, i do believe what your saying, it was only a couple of weeks ago i was in your position myself, i came across other forums with these topics on and each time i asked a question all id get is 'use search function noob' etc, while i can see these peoples point there are some users ive come across on other forums who are so pig ignorant and rude about it that its so unwelcoming.

Exactly.
Well like I say, thanks a lot for the reply. I think I might actually give this method a try since I can understand it.
Thanks to the person who made the guide too.

I already had a Pandora Battery, so all I did was make a new Magic Stik by following this guide. Great guide btw and very easy to follow. Since this is my second Magic Stik, I breezed right through it.
The reason I made another Magic Stik is because I have this Slim PSP that will not turn on. The green power light would stay on for a second or two. I used my original Pandora Battery and Stick and Pandora worked as it should have, BUT, when I placed the original battery back, same thing. PSP would not turn on.
So I thought maybe this Universal Unbricker would work. Sadly it didnt. It did what it supposed to do but placing the original battery back, the green power light now stays on for FIVE seconds or so.
Is this PSP doomed to be bricked for eternity?
I had started a thread before I spent some time reading about Nands and Timemachines and all that. Spent two days reading and all I got out of it was a headache.
BTW larrylje, if you need another mirror, I can still upload these files to RapidShare with your permission.

You must install the initial release, 4.01m33. After that, you can then install 4.01m33-2.

All I can suggest is redownloading the files. I know the files are not corrupt but there could have been an issue when you first downloaded them.

did you drag the psp and 150.pbp files to the root of your memory stick and press yes to all??
if you have done that it should be on your psp go to games and memory stick and look for it

No dude u need the battery to unbrick / put on a custom firmware on psp so therefore u will need both the memory stick n a pandora battery.. u can hardmod/softmod a pandora battery... if u look in the forum u will see how to carry out this AT UR OWN RISK

ok but the majority of the guide is spent on the mem stick. ive tried looking for a way to softmod my battery but havent had much luck. or does this process help with that.
