alright, so thanks all for the great info, here is my prob:

3.1U Wii (launch model)
wiikey (1.9g corrupted with 1.9b at 71%)

My wiikey worked perfectly fine before I got Brawl, so of course ssbb didn't work in my system. I followed this thread all of sunday until silverwhatever posted the wiikey corruption method, so of course I did it, I pulled the plug, and Brawl worked gloriously. I decided I could take a break from it (blasphemy, i know) and attempted to use the 1.9b recovery on a sony DVD-R SL disc. It didn't work. I reset my wii and waited 3-5 min several times, and none of my backups (wii or GC) work, but originals still do. idk what to do.

HELP!

much thanks

Why should he take it easy. He is right there is 91 and counting pages because people like you don't want to read through the messages.

They have explained your question over 25+ times. So read through the message and your answer awaits you.

Maybe we can come to your house as well and run the updates and burn the DVD for you.

Man get real.

Now that SSBB has now been confirmed on working as a backup, can someone please make a full detailed tutorial like on the first post, for example with layer break and the numbers, to stop flooding this thread with noobish questions. =]

I can answer this :D

I got 3 wiis in my lan center, out of the 3 (1 japanese) the only that reads the new USA DVD DL is the japanese, I just put the disc (reset several times as it didn´t recognize it), and after it made the update it works flawlessly :D
Im wondering wether i retail usa version of the game will function on my japenese wii. I'm considering of buying the game instead of downloading because it is confusing with the dual layered cd. if confuses my delicete mind! anyways so if i bought the retail version will it work?

Super

Want to add another confirmation to the list.

Wiizard SSBB iso
No Layer Break set
Burned via Disk Utility on Mac OSX
Verbatim 2.4x +DL (made in Singapore)
Wii D2B w/legs in tact
Updated to 3.2U via internet

BIG POINT FOR ME:
Wiikey 1.9g -- IT WOULD NOT WORK until I updated to 1.9g from 1.9b

works fine, plays great. for those with movie issues, try and lowering your speed to 3x.

Hey, i just wanted to thank the people here at afterdawn it was their help that got SSBB to work for me. When it first came out i went out and bought it right away and like most of you out there the wii didn't read the disc. I also have a wii from when it first came out and a wiikey that has never been updated and i hardly played the wii and it was building up some dust. but heres how i got my version to work.

I downloaded SSBB it took me like 2 days. Then i went to future shop and i purchased Fujifilm (Dvd+R DL). I also used ImgBurn and burned SSBB iso at Max speed. I tried it on the wii and it had a disc error.. but then i realized that i needed to update the firmware so i downloaded both firmware updates 1.9b and 1.9g. Burnt the iso's to Maxell Dvd-R. I updated first with the 1.9b and to my suprise it read the disc but when i started to play it i got and error. So then i prayed and updated it with 1.9g and it WORKED!!!

Cliff Notes
Downloaded SSBB
Firmware 1.9g
Wiiware 3.2
Fujifilm DVD+R DL

Thanks guys!!

OK Another one working on first try because I read the messages left before no need for questions.

HP Media Center
DVD Drive Make & Model: LG HL-DT-SL DVDRRW GSA-H30L
Burn Software Used: ImgeBurn Ver 2.3.2.0 Burned at 2.4X No Layers Set
Media Used: Memorex DVD+R DL
Mod Chip: Wiikey Firmware 1.9G
Wii update: 3.2U (Done Via Wii Update)
ISO Used: Wizard ISO File. NTSC USA

Inserted DVD into already on WII game window said updating clicked start it did a update and then the Super Smash Brawl appeared in the game window and I hit start created a save file no problem, movies plaid ok and game play was fine and saved the game progress.

Loaded a old back up and it worked.

Simple if a noob like me can do it it anyone can and I didn't ask a question here just read the messages backwards here.

Simple stop being lazy and you could already be enjoying this cool game.

Nope. Ran to future shop 10 mins before the closed as saw a lot of people saying they got it to work with memorex DVD+R DL (On sale in Canada till the 13th for $22.99 for 25PCs)

Got the Wizard ver off the newsgroups about a couple of hours ago and read the messages here and did what they said and pow the game worked the first try and no DVD coasters. Less than 1.00 to get this great game. Getting a switch in my Wii so I can buy the retail version as I say try before ya buy.

Thanks again to all that posted how they got it to work.

Here is a post I saw on another site about not setting the layers can this be true?

Message as follows.

So it appears that at least some people can burn and initially run game without setting layers, but is there potential for problems later when the console tries to access the second layer? Second layer access only occurs at the end of certain single player modes AFAIK, so you might only have the illusion of your game working perfectly...

3.2J (3.1J when i bought it)
D2C chipset
Presumably D2CKey (Red light in the SD slot)

Will US retail BRAWL work on mines? 3.2J/U/E supposedly supports the dual-layer read.

Anyone get a fix for error 001: "Unauthorized Device Detected". I'm using Wiikey 1.9g with 3.1U firmware. I am able to play SMG flawlessly but i have problems with this.

I used WuM(WiiUpdateManager) to read the info on the ISO released by emucu*** (just for the records, I own the retail version, just that I do not own the proper drive to backup my own). it tells me that it has an update inside, which its update zone does not match its ISO zone. This is rather strange, and I read that even if you updated to 3.2U, the disk will prompt an update but is done within 30 seconds. Did any use the same ISO and updated without a single problem?

My Wii spec: Wiikey 1.9gBeta, 3.2U (updated via internet), D2B-no cut pin. Thanks!

My first ever attempt to burn a Wii game.

SSBB NTSC-USA iso - MD5 checksum d18726e6dfdc8bdbdad540b561051087
burning software: ImgBurn 2.4.0.0
Manual Layer Break set
hardware: Pioneer 212D
media: Verbatim 2.4x +DL (burnt at max speed, average of 6.0x)
console: Wii NTSC-USA with 3.2U (updated via internet prior)
modchip: D2CKey

Confirmed working.

First time the disc wanted to update the system. Took about a few seconds for a quick update. Then it loaded ok, but crashed during the movie intro.

Rebooted the disc, and plays the movie fine, and game works.

I accidentally burned the disc at MAX speed, rather than at 2.4x; ImgBurn reports an average burn speed of 6.0x. The disc works, despite burning at the wrong speed.

Initially I tried using a no-name DVD+R-DL disc (media code identfied as CMC Mag) with all the same settings, except burnt at 2.4x

So use a quality disc, and more likely to have success. If I can get a working backup from reading this thread, anyone should be able to.

It would be useful for those with troubles to compare the MD5 checksum.

Ur case exactly same as mine.. without break layer stuck on the white screen. With break layer is working well

Ya becoz of those lazy readers and make so many pages. I've actually read through the page from 60 onwards to 90 just to make my back up SSBB works. Guess around that pages where the USA version of SSBB just released
