Hi i bought a wii last Friday, and it came with 3.3E firmware , from what i saw around here some people say they have 3.3U. I'm leaving this post , cause with my 3.3E i did the twilight hack , installed the cIOS and all is working as intended, where i've tested games and are running smooth. So seams the 3.3E is b4 23 oct if goes by vowels ( U is after E ( A E I O U ).

The letter represents the region of the system...

U=USA
E=Europe
J=Japan

If you installed the cIOS with no issues then you didn't have the OCT 23rd update.

Every time I try to load a backup through the gator launcher, it gets
hung up on the screen that show the Wireless control and showing you need adequate space to move around. Anyone else has this problem, if so how do I get around it?

Thanks,

You need to follow the linked guide in the red section at the beginning of the guide so the cIOS can be installed.

Everyone needs to read the guide word for word. It clearly says if you have the OCT 23rd 3.3 or 3.4 firmware to follow the linked fix guide to fix the limitation the newer firmware puts on the system.

Hi All,

I was wondering, is it possible to play backed up games over the network, instead of having to burn each one to dvd?
Or, via an external usb drive...?

Thanks!

Again if you read the guide WORD FOR WORD it says you do not have to downgrade the Wii firmware (your downgrading the IOS to fix the limitation that has been placed on them). All you need to do is perform the first 3 parts of the linked fix guide then come back to this guide to install the Backup Launcher.

Firstly, Thanks for this Uber guide Larry, appreciate that you have put a lot of time and effort in to writing the guide and answering lots of the same questions. I am going to try it tonight.

Update, worked a charm. Thanks very much!!!

Okay, before discovering this guide, I had followed a 3-part guide on YouTube that had me do the following, since I had the 3.4U firmware:

1. Install Homebrew using the Twilight Hack
2. Download and place these files on my SD card: cios_fix.wad, IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad, and WAD MANAGER V3.wad.
3. Install the IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad file through Homebrew
4. Install the cios_fix.wad file through Homebrew
5. Run the IOS downgrader through Homebrew
6. Install Shop IOS51 through Homebrew
7. Install WAD MANAGER V3.wad through Homebrew via the Wad Manager
8. Downgrade my firmware from 3.4U to 3.2U through Homebrew.

Every install went great. However, through this guide, I now realize that I did not have to downgrade my system to 3.2U. I have yet to test a backup disc on my Wii (no LG drive yet) so I went ahead and placed my ORIGINAL SmashBrothers disc in the Wii to see what happens and it, of course, wants me to update my firmware. Here are my questions:

Should I go ahead with the update? If I do update, will my Wii still be able to play backed up games?
Does upgrading back to 3.4U change the IOS again?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have downloaded all the files from the oct 23 fix and have run the ios1616-64-v257.wad file installs ok, then rebooted then installed the cios_fix.wad file it installs ok. However I cannot install the new cios installer v7 keeps saying failure at the end of the installion.
I have tried to downgrade but it will not complete the downgrade and stalls on ticket #9. Can I get some help please.

Larrylje

I have version 3.4u, i know i have to do the fix that you posted just have a couple of questions for you.

I have done the "what you need part" and the "Installing the homebrew channel guide". Now on the Wii fix guide, do i need to do all 7 parts of this or only the first 4?? I have tried to install the cios installer after the 4th part but i get a failed at the end. Then i tried to do the Ios Downgrader started to work but then i stall on Ios20 v20 all it does says downloading TD (TM) not sure. Is there a way to install these file via the SD card? Thanks for you help.

Hi guys, i'm trying to follow the guide but the first step is to format the SD card to "FAT16"......but when I "right click" on the drive and click "format", it only lets me format the SD card to "FAT32". There is a drop down that I click, but there is no "FAT16" option. Can I use "FAT32"???

FAT16 is listed as DEFAULT in the drop down menu.

When I click on the drop down menu, there is nothing to choose but FAT32. No other options at all. Now what? Can FAT32 be used?
