Does the age of the gamecube have any effect on the results, I got mine the year it came out.

I don't know if it was already posted. Can you load backups using the pso-bba and loading the dol files instead of using the max drive pro??

OK! Got all of the stuff eventually (mini dvd-rs, gamebit screwdriver, replacement case, max drive pro etc) and successfully loading backups. However, the following info might help people:

I have 3 gamecubes in the house at the moment (No, I'm not mad, it's just a big household). A purple one from over 3 years ago, and 2 black ones from just over a year ago (all brand new at the time).

The purple (older) one will boot full size dvd-r no probs with a replacement case, but will not boot up any Ridisc mini dvd-rs I've tried (media not recognised error). However, the black cubes (newer) will boot up the mini dvdr-s no problem!

Also, probably because of gamecube model differences, when I boot the games from GCOS on the black machines, it comes up with a screen asking me to choose video mode, but on the purple cube it just goes straight into the game. I know there are setting inside GCOS to do this ('force always ask' etc) but it saves them in SRAM as far as I know and not on the MDP card so it's not my doing as far as I can tell).

I haven't done any pot adjustments. It'd be worth someone getting a newer cube if they're having severe difficulty recognising dvd-r media. They're pretty cheap now.

Hi there,

The card seems to work but I can't get the "Cube" right panel of the PC software to update... I can't drag/drop into it

I prepared the MDP with the minidisc provided in the package, what can be a solution to make it work ?

Cheers :)

Update : I found a workaround, just download the latest version of the software :P

What does the black screen signify?

After I pick to boot my Mini DVD with GCos 1.5, the dvd spins up and then i get the black screen forever. I have adjusted the POT to every value inbetween 150-600. If I go too low or too high I get the DRE.

These same Mini DVDs work perfectly in a friends GC with the same GCos 1.5 method.

my gamecube is about 3 years old

most people use ritekg04 minidvd-r for best results

playajcc: go the site I posted on the first post of this thread which deals with DRE's and try those methods.

Any bios you can find in .dol format should work. I have not tried any others since GCOS works like a charm for me but I have read that NinjaShell, GCOM, Ananconda, and others should work as well. Chack out the download section at tehskeen.com.

No, I'm not sure. As I said above, MDP with GCOS works great for me. When doing research on playing backups I ran across evidence of using other BIOS files with MDP as long as there are in .dol format. Why don't you just try it. As I said, MDP with GCOS works fine for me. I have no plans to test others for you. Let us know how it goes.
