How do you figure the new xbox 360 is weak? u own the ps2 and the orignial xbox and the 360 is clearly better than both of those systems and since u didnty mention any displeasure with those two systems i assume u liked them both. Its said that the ps3 and the 360 will look and run basically the same. A few different features for each perspective system making one better than the other in one and area and vice versa.In what way is the 360 weak???It has the good, bad and the ugly when it comes to games. A GREAT lineup of games releasing this yr. The HD-DVD player as an addon and so on and so on. Sony is dragging is customers along by not releasing a price and keeping them in the dark with basically everything. Specs and features change with a little too much regulartiy but yet people hold so much hope for the ps3...sorry but ur gonna be in for dissapointment and looks like u wont be playing next gen consoles if u think the 360 is weak because the ps3 inst gonna WOW you.

It's weak in the sense that when the PS2 and Xbox came out, everybody was blown away. They were amazing. Remember the first time you saw GTA3? I've not seen anything on Xbox 360 that's significantly better enough for me to run out and buy one. It's 2006 man! When I was a kid I thought we'd have holographic hookers by now! People spending their money on lacklustre concepts like the 360 (and PS3 if you like) isn't helping to motivate the industry. It's become like the PC market. Do ya really think they couldn't cheaply mass produce machines with 5 ghz chips and 6 gig of ram? The reason they won't is because they're better off drip feeding us with slowly improving technology, knowing that we'll all rush out and buy every upgrade we can in between.
When the PS3 comes out the 360 is very likely to shed some of it's price tag, and my choice will probably be based on whichever machine allows me to run downloaded games, preferably from a HDD.
Of course I'll end up buying one or the other, I just don't think Xbox 360 is worth upgrading to yet. Maybe once some decent games come out I'll be more interested. The reason I'm calling the 360 weak and not the PS3 is because I havn't seen and played the PS3 yet. And nor have you. I don't see how anyone can seriously say that the Xbox is not technically better than the PS2, the graphics are only a little better, but they ARE better to a degree that makes all the difference. Try playing a game through on the Xbox, then on the PS2. Who's to say the same won't be true in reverse this time around?

i agree with u in what u said about the xbox and the ps2 there was a differnce supposedly but it was not noticeable to the naked eye. Thats why i dont c why u would wait for teh ps3 cause its going to be the same scenario one way or the other. u wont be able to notice a huge difference and as far as games u cant expect great games out the gate everytime.im not trying to sway people one way or the other but thats exactly the thing... people have grown greedy. truthfully i wasnt blown away by ps2 or xbox it was the same level of upgrade from the xbox to the 360. u do realize that things had to slow down,i mean this isnt back to the future and i know what u mean by the holographic hookers but lets be honest with eachother here. I think realistic fans will be happy with both the 360 and the ps3 and the whole other bunch will just complain. I read an article that something that made pretty good sense..it said it is better to have a game be 50% real and let ur imagination fill in the blanks than to have a game be 98% real and have people b!tch about the few minor things. Check out a madden wishlist or any game for that matter and listen to what people want the games to do,its a little farfetched.
Have u seen fightnight? It looks astonishing,gta never looked that great. its not even a game recognized for its graphics whatsoever. It HAD a great plot and gameplay but they ran that into the ground just as Metal gear solid did. they both were great ideas that got played out. right now with the new consoles they are just improving graphics and twaeaking the minor details to come closer to reality and if thats not good enough then people are in for a big dissapointment

I disagree that GTA didnt look that great at the time. It was a massive leap forward from GTA 1 & 2 that's for sure! I know there were other PS2 games that had already come out that were better, but GTA3 had the new graphics (to consoles at least) and a freedom that hadn't been available before. I agree that it got played out, but Ive always thought a next gen GTA online would be a great progression for the game. Imagine a GTA with state of the art (lol even if that does mean xbox 360) graphics where everyone in the city/state/country was a real player! All trying to kill each other and fcuk each other over! People could join different ethnic gangs like in the previous games and defend their territory and attack others' turf. That would make me buy a system!
I also disagree that you can't tell the difference between PS2 and Xbox with the naked eye. They're pretty much identical, except the PS2 just doesn't look quite as vibrant. The textures don't look as solid as on the xbox (or the gamecube for that matter). What's made the PS2 better over time for me is that I generally prefer the games it has that xbox doesn't to those that are exclusively on xbox.
I do agree that holographic hookers seem a little far fetched, but surely we must be closer to that than Space Invaders? Everything else is like Back to the Future now! There are loads of pointless hi-tech inventions almost straight out of that film. Like Motion Sensor Towel Dispensors and phones that tell you who's calling in between rings. The other day I bought my Dad a digital picture frame. (Have ya seen those by the way? You store your pictures on what looks like a picture frame with a digital screen and it changes them periodically! They're great.)Anyway maybe not holograms, but some kind of virtual reality. What happened to that? Why couldn't PS3 be a kind of virtual reality unit but with graphics like Fight Night on 360?! I wouldn't mind paying thousands for that, rather than £400 for just a better version of what I would have been happy with if the new one didnt exist! Another box with a slightly different control stick and even better graphics. At least Nintendo are trying to do something a bit different with that Wii thing or whatever it's called. Granted it looks like it's gonna be the worst of all 3, but at least they realise it's time for something new...they just don't know how to do it either. You're right, I guess I have got greedy and expect too much. But I stand by my decision to wait for the PS3 before deciding. Not least because I don't think I'm missing much in the meantime as far as games are concerned, plus if I do end up getting a 360, it'll be cheaper then.

the 360 is only lowering the price if the ps3 comes out at a cheap price which they wont. If anything graphics were better on the xbox over the ps2 so im not sure what ur talking about there. GTA didnt come out too early in ps2's existence and many games that came out before it looked far better so to use that as the bar is kinda strange. Metal gear solid blows gta away and correct me if im wrong but that released b4 gta. Gta brought the large world thing to forefront of gaming i agree there.i want the ps3 to be great and exceed the 360 i just dont think it will and for the added price for a hi-def movie player its just not worth it. DOesnt make sense that they would charge a grand for the standalone player and sell the console for anything less than that. If so ud be an idiot to buy the stanalone player. If sony has shown us one thing they love to try and cram two forms of technology in one thing an halfa$$ it. Look what they did with the ps2,laser readers burnt out and cause system to fail with a lot more regualrity than the 360's overheating.
The only differnce there is MS customer service doesnt suck like sony's does. Sony doesnt care about the customer,they know they have all their fans hook line and sinker no matter what they put out so we'll have to see if they continue that with the ps3.all that technology u spoke of and some of the stuff sony is putting in the ps3 is useless. multiple hdmi outputs(excessive),7 controller ports(extraneous). all the accessories will be far more expensive than the 360's. Imagine this...online is the wave of the futre for gaming and sony missed the bus on that one last time and they are heading down that road again leaving it up to the game developers.Ms is going to have a plethera of solid exclusives this go round. so many sony exclusives have already went with all companies i.e gta,raw vs smackdown,resident evil and so on. Sony isnt quite the juggernaut they used to be they just have the most loyal cultlike fans who lap up their product no questions asked and who will wait for it to pay more...
p.s btw im not trying to be overly agressive or an a$$ i just like a good ole debate its good for the heart. No offense or disrespect is intended and if i offend u just let me know and i'll surely curb myself and apologize.

What I find fasinating about all of this is that Sony is taking the plunge on the BluRay. Given all of the technology that the PS3 is purportely capable of, it seems Sony is looking to sell a media center and not just a gaming system. IF HD DVD were to prevail in the HD media war, Sony will have lost out in a grand way. If, however, BluRay is the media of the near-future, the Sony is one step ahead! One heck of a gamble either way (anyone out there old enough to remember Betamax?) On another point, I find it interesting that there has been no mention of the cost of BluRay game disks that would be required to utilize the full potential of the technology? of the PS3. As an owner of the 360, I've got to say that the cost of the hardware plus $50-$60USD per game is approaching my gaming budget limit.

ok tell me what is so great about blue ray, is it a holographic picture, and if not why the hell is it going for 1000 dollars, that sucks big time. the reason why dvd was so great was b/c it was a massive change from vhs but dvd are still great and do ot need to be changed in my eyes for another 4 years at least.

Let me tell you why Blu-ray disc can hold a whole lot more info than a HD-DVD.So that mean that the game designer will have more room to build onto games.Far as which one has the better picture thats in the eye of the beholder....

Lol, yeah but you do realise this is due to the current weakness of the Dollar right? It ain't good for our American friends in the long run...
Everything is cheaper over there, especially at the moment. I went to visit my Dad in NY last week, I came back laden with external hard drives, memory stick duos and a new router. I'm just gonna go over there for a week when the PS3 comes out and bring back as many as I can. I reckon I'll be able to pay for my ticket with them!

@ Robjungle: i wish you luck on coming over here to get alot of PS3 because you will have people sitting out side stores for a week.Here in the town i live in the line was so long that people camped out all night til the next night just to try to get, just one system and was turned away with nothing.Im going to pre-order mines the first day i can thats the easy way not to wait.

i'd get your facts straight first...microsoft still have pre-orders to fill,in other words,as they say in the retail industry....backorders.
as for saying bye bye 360,did you watch the E3 expo? i think it might be bye bye Sony,the have copied the wii,in regards to the controller,they have still copied microsoft on the live"online play".they don't seem to have as many games as microsoft did on launch,but then again, i suppose that could change by the 17 NOV..who knows,but by all accounts on watching and listening to peoples responses towards the PS3,their days may be numbered
so as you say....spec on that

Interesting stuff. An obvious MS bias but good solid facts anyway.
It looks like by the time the DVD9 is outdated so will the 360, in which case technology would have moved on in time for the next xbox. This could be a good strategy if Microsoft have got a new machine scheduled in that time-frame.
