@worm250r, San Andreas requires a special rebuild compared to simply ripping the game and then reburning it. Keep that in mind, this is covered at the top of thread.
DVD Decrypter is the easiest way to rip, Alcohol 120% would be the second easiest. Plus DVD Decrypter is free. That is why, luffy17.

No, dan168.....I don't have a mod-chip or swap magic. Doesn't that just scream, "NEWBIE"? lol By putting in the mod-chip or utilizing swap magic, that should solve most issues concerning game play?
Thanks again for the info. I was doing a little research on the mod-chips and if they all do the same job, what's the big difference between them and the difference in cost? Any suggestions on a mod-chip?
No offense to worm250r, but I had to seriously LMAO when I read he figured out he had a cdrw and just a dvd-rom. I'm sure somebody got a good laugh out of my post too though!

hey man, we were all n00bs at one time.
I went to Blockbuster the other day & the clerk was bragging about his PS2 collection. He said he spent over $700 on them. I went over & asked him if he knew what a modchip was? Clueless. Swap Magic? Nope. Backing up games? Impossible.
Went home later, took a DVD-R game w/me & Swap Magic to the store & let him borrow it. (He's been working there for >1yr so I trust him) When I came back for my SM disc the next day, he begged to know how to backup games. ;) Maybe i'll share the secret, maybe i won't. :P

@smooth_c:
Step 1
Step 2
Make sure to use GOOD media (all I had were some cheap DVDs left) & burn @your burner's slowest speed, like 2X\4X. Close all open programs. CTRL+ALT+DEL to kill any TSR's (like Antivirus or resource hogs).

Nice job man, good job on providing print screens. I would have done the same, but then i realized that spoonfeeding when there are 80 pages of info to answer the question is dumb, and is only going to encourage laziness. Nice job though :)

Do us all a favor and read the thread. That shows your lack of trying to learn. There are like 100 pages in this thread answering that question, yet you still ask if you need a chip. No more spoonfeeding the lazy for me.

i have backed up on samsung 8x DVD+R and DVD-R at 2x burn speed. i have also tried to back up on imation DVD+RW 4x, at 2.4x burn speed, nothing works. is it the media or shud i b using other programs to backup such as Nero? also do DVD+RW backups work on ps2?

I got my PS2 just couple monts ago. I downladed Formula 1 2006 in PAL format from internet as an ISO file and followed the instructions from this forum - but is doesn't wotk.
What I did was: I patched the "FORMULA_1_2006_PAL.ISO" with ps2_pal2ntsc_yfix.exe and it said "FILE SUCSESSFULY PATCHED".
Then I opened the DVD Decrypter and took the Formula1_2006.ISO as a SOURCE and as Destination I put my DVD BURNER. When the
burning finished and I put the DVD into the PS2 - It didn't
work %&^%*&^(*)!!! I don't know why - does anyone of you guys
know what I'm missing? As I said the PS2 is new - do I need to
have any Chips or anything like that in the PS2 it self or???..I'm confused!
I woudl really appreciate a qiick and step by stem perply (just
to make sure that I won't miss a step).

@dan
WTF?? You didnt read anything, you need a damn chip or Swap Magic to play backups. Nobody is going to spoonfeed you when you dont do anything to help yourself!
@bossps2
Many ps2's dont like the media you are using. Verbatim's are good stuff, but +Rs arnt. I suggest using -Rs and seeing if you get better results. I use 16X Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs and have never had a problem. Just a suggestion, but I think you will be happily surprised with the results :)

i wish most people would realize they need either a professionaly installed modchip OR a swapmagic disc + magickeys/magicswitch/tape+tissue mod to play their burned games. That would save the thread about 90% of its posts. The rest are either bad media (just ask Tokijin!), PC problems or the occasional bad ISO. And i forgot..the DVD9 games like Xenosaga & God of War.
