You should always use DVD-R for backing up PS2 games. DVD+R media are not really compatible much with the PS2 and it won't read it, most likely. Just stick with high quality DVD-R media.

It really depends on the Media ID of the TDK discs. They outsource some disks to CMC Mag, which're garbage. The high end TDK discs are okay, but definitely not on par with Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's. What's the Media ID of those TDK discs? There's a lot of fake TDK's out there.
91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Know that's not a fake. That's decent Sony media made in Taiwan. I thought your game worked okay? I would still recommend getting better media. The Sony DVD+R's made in Japan are Taiyo Yuden's. You can find them at most chain stores. Look for the "Made in Japan" on the label. Maxells made in Japan are excellent quality as well. You can get them at Comp USA or Office Depot. Again look for the "Made in Japan" on the label. You can Verbatim's at Sam's Club that are excellent quality as well. As you're in the U.K. you can get good deals on Verbatim's and Taiyo Yuden's at http://svp.co.uk/products-list.php?cid=115&PHPSESSID=7446cf8be2a0...
Settle for no less than those brands.

The printables tend to be of slightly lower quality than non printables. Only get the printables if the printing is important to you. I recommend one of the following: http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=228&PHPSESSID=7446cf8be2a0... The 8x Taiyo Yuden's, what I use or

The Verbatim TY's. They're availabe in the U.K. and very good from what I've read. I know a couple people from the U.K. on AD who use them with great success. You may want to start out with these, as it's only a 25 pack. If for whatever reason it doesn't work out, you didn't sink a bunch of money into it. You shouldn't have issues with either brand, but different media is more compatible with different burners.

Good Deal. I don't forsee any problems with the Taiyo Yuden's. That site is reputable and as long as you follow guidelines for proper burning, then I think you'll be fine. Cheers!

Yes as long as your firmware is up to date, your burner is in DMA mode, and you're using quality media, that should work fine. That's assuming you have a newer burner of course.

Hi, i am going to buy some taiyo yuden printables but dont know what ones to get. Are +r's or -r's better for copying ps2 games and movie dvds? And how do silver printables turn out when printed on. I am wanting to have the silver writing like on the PAL medal of honor games. I have heard the colours dont come out very well. I will be getting white ones for most games just want some with the silver.

I don't know about the quality of prints. The discs tend to be of slightly lower quality than non printables because of the labels. Go with the DVD-R's. In general there are fewer compatibility issues with DVD-R's than DVD+R's. I just the shiny non branded silver surface TYG02's. The printable's are of good quality, but I would go with non printable's, unless the printing is important to you. I use these: http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=228&PHPSESSID=7446cf8be2a0...

I realize that these quality scan tests aren't even close to 100% (as you'll get different results everytime) but, I've been getting below average to piss poor quality results with good ole TY :(:
^ This one actually had a scuff mark on the DVD which may have caused that very low score.
These are two different batches mixed in all burned within the past two weeks. A lot of my recent Memorex DVDs have had better quality than this.

Because of the quality of the discs, they should last for years. Data that's been burned to disc can degrade or break down on crappy media, shortly after it's been burned. I don't know the technical reason for it, just that's the way it is.

Good Deal. That's good to hear. There are some people who complain about TY's, but 99% of problems with them are user error. Good Media is only as good as the knowledge level of the person using it. Cheers!
