Cross flashing is only for advanced users only. If your burn quality is good, don't worry about it. You should be fine using High Quality DVD-R's like Taiyo Yuden. Booktyping/bitsetting is nice to have, but is it worth risking frying your only burner for? That's up to you. Faced with a similar dilemma, I said no. Cheers!

I'm kinda lost with this mod chip thing, I was thinking about buying wizard-pro or pro wizard wich ever, it says you can copy games, now I hear I might need this mod chip thing to do so, is this true? you mean I would have to install this thing in my computer to do this, and no I would not even try to atempt any imports, just American made games, so can somebody enlighten me on what is involved here to get me going, thanks.

any program that says it can burn a bootable Playstation game disk without the use of a mod of any type is simply lying to you. your burner is not able to write to the authentication area of the disk that the console reads from to verify if the disk is an original or not and no program can force it to write there.
and i am not sure i follow you on what you asked but NO you do not put a modchip in your computer, it goes in the console. it doesn't sound like your to up to par on modding so I'd suggest you do a little more research and even give Swap Magic a looking into then decide which type mod is best suited to your needs, then if you aren't able to install it there are many reputable modders who would be more then happy to do it for you at a reasonable price. Tokijin's FAQ has allot of the info you need to take a look at so that would be as good a place to start as any.

OK, so I think what I should do is get or find some neighboorhood kids and ask around about things like modchips and this swap magic thing your talking about, I learned kids know all about this stuff, and this swapmagic disc your talking about, is this something I can buy somewhere, or does it have to be found on the internet to purchase, I'm all ears.

I searched google, and found a couple of sites that advertise it, but after reading it now I'm really confused, with swapmagic they still say you need a modchip for imports, if I'm in America that does pertain to me, here is what one of them say.
Description:
The all new version 3.6 Swap Magic CD & DVD disc set is now compatible with more game titles and every PS2 unit including the new slimline PSTwo. This item requires the use of a no-solder modchip, fliptop lid or slight modification on new Slim PSTWO. A perfect solution! Just a single swap - even with DVD games.A perfect Boot disc for the Playstation 2. Allows playing of all backup CD & DVD games on the PS2 console only with a No Solder Mod or Slide Card. A perfect solution for playing backup and import games. No more waiting to play the latest PS2 games from around the world. Just a single swap - even with DVD games.
It kinda seems this is a little complicated, maybe over head, or not, is there somebody that explains this kind of process from beginning to end for a newbie so to speak.

swap magic requires allot of the games to be rebuilt, you can't simply copy the disk 1 for 1 and have it work. get a chip, and a quality one at that and you'll never have to worry about rebuilding or swapping a disk. folks tend to forget that disk swapping requires additional features (flip tops/slide cards/magic switch/etc...). the end result is the same cost as it would be if you got your console modded with a top quality chip by a pro from the start, and then you copy a disk 1-1 and pop it in and it boots and plays no questions asked and no swapping.

KC I think your answer is a little more easy to understand, bieng a newbie I don't want to go to features that will confuse me more, so I guess if I can find a reputable modchip guy, he should probably be able to guide me how to do the rest, am I making any sense here.

if your going for a mod chip go for a dsm4 lite its a no solder chip and goes for under 60 bucks of corse there are others out there but yea some games need rebuilding also most chips will play imports
it all depens on what you want to do the dsm4 is great for backups.
and is an easy install.

In America, all I want to do is just make a backup of our store bought games cause I dont have to tell you what kids do with them, when they say imports I still dont know what that pertains to, so, here in America I want to back up my store bought games and thats it.

in the DMS the EZI in both Lite and Pro are the no solder installs and they are by no means easy to install and 99% of people F' up the mobo attempting to do so.
if you want to only play backups then the DMS4 Lite SE is what i would recommend, if you want to use a built in cheat device or play off the harddrive then get the DMS4 Pro SE. both will play any backedup disk you put in it regardless of region or format.

I burned all my dvd game backups to DVD+ type of media.
Now many friends tell me that i should ve burned them to DVD- type of media, cause the + type makes my ps2 not work in time.
MY ps2 isn t reading my backup disks, i have to shut down the console and start it again in 1 minute for the game to boot up, but it worked perfectley for 1 year!
So was it that DVD+ type of media that destroyed my ps2 in time, or it s something else, and DVD+ is good?
THE dISK s are TDK DVD+

Using DVD+R media won't wear down your PS2 any faster than quality DVD-R media. It's far more likely the type of media you used wore down your PS2. Crappy media uses cheap dyes which cause the PS2 laser to strain, and short out quicker. What's the Media ID on those TDK discs? I never recommend the TDK's, the high end TDK media isn't on par with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's.
91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm Huge List of Media ID's (Thanks to DogBomb): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/155431

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm
106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

i dont care what anybody says sony DVD+R ar the best not taiyo yuden discs but they dont work that well for me and they get scratched very easily. No want to know why sony discs are the best for ps2 games cause it plays god of war with no skips what so ever all movies and all that working all cause of a little thing called accucore which is basically a little invention sony made for wide compatibility, stable writing and temperature reability and archive reablility. They all work perfectly.
