Oh my, GregInnes is inactive, between his 30 forum violation's a day, I wonder what it could've been, the bittorrent upload requests, useless posts, or other niceties. The mods are picking off the useless user's little by little. They will always come back, but hey at leat I don't have to hear any more useless rhetoric from that one. So this isn't a useless post, 3DLuis brought to my attention that there's a PAL2NTSC patch for FIFA Street 2 if anybody is interested. Here's the link and patcher instrcutions.

If somebody wants to download and it upload it to a file hosting site, that's their perogative. Of course you didn't get that idea from me I have nothing *cough* but respect *cough* for PS2nfo.com *cough.*

http://www.ps2nfo.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&file=viewarticle...

Instructions:

1.extract FifaStreet2-pal_ntsc-iso-patcher.exe to .ISO directory
2.press "readme"
3.press "Browse..", select the iso file.
4.press "Scan".
5.press "ntsc patch" or "pal patch".
6.all done.
7.same iso size.

i get the very strange impression someone has an IP banning from PS2NFO...........hummmmm

and on the patch, you left out the part about you'll need 20 gig of free space on your drive to do it. if you'd like i can down the file and send it to ya Tokijin.

Hey I just burned Fight Night Round 3 for PS2 on Datawrite DVD-r 8x Yellow.

I used swap magic and I get to loading screen for fn3 and it just freezes.

Are my discs cheap shit? also is it better to burn at 2x than 4x. Is there a general rule like burn at half of read speed. Cheers

(without checking), Datawrite Yellow could indeed be some nasty cheap crap... i wouldn't be surprised, i won't go anywhere near any Datawrites of any kind, too much of a lottery as to what discs you get

Main PC ~ Intel C2Q Q6600 (G0 Stepping)/Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3/2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500/Zalman CNPS9700/Antec 900/Corsair HX 620W

Yeah they're probably CMC Mag, shite. I know the yellow Datawrites have coded out as CMC Mag in a couple other threads. Get some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's.

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm

106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

I did pick up some Sony MIJ DVD-R's that coded out as TYG02. I actually bought my burner (Sony DRU-810A) at Wal-Mart too, mainly because they'll take anything back.Hey KC I've been reading up on CD-R quality reviews, and Sony CD-R media seems to be a above average-good on most sites. I have 100 or PSX backups I'm going to transfer from Memosux to Sony, do you think I'd have any issue with Sony CD-R's for PSX backups? Thanks for the info.

for PSX and PS2 CD based games i have always used TDK Black disks and never had issues with them so I've never bothered to use any other brand. i admit i started using them simply because they were black like an original PSX disk but after many years with the kids playing them on the PSX console without a single hitch i see no reason to change that now. the few I've ran quality scans on they report a 100% disk quality, but to tell the truth I've never seen a CD-R that didn't.

Yeah I just figured Sony had to be better than CMC Mag. I didn't want to risk cheap CMC Mag dyes wearing down my PS2 laser, be it CD or DVD. They've worked okay for me as far as PSX games, but I just don't want to risk it. Every media review I've read has said they're pretty good quality, and Memorex is listed as budget media on most sites. So it's worth it to me to copy them onto better media and preserve the life of my PS2 laser as long as possible. Thanks for the info. Cheers!

i would only back them up to a different disk IF i was going to play it then, i don't think you'll ever have issues with the Memorex disks as far as data storage goes.

I don't generally advise getting media off ebay, but as long as you're sure your getting legit "sexy" Verb TY's, then it's okay. Never buy unbranded Taiyo Yuden's off ebay.

He has good feedback so hopefully they are the sexy 1's :)

Also could you please tell me which speed is best to burn onto these discs? 2X 2.4X or 4X?

Creaky (the moderator) uses those and calls them "sexy" so I was trying to get him to make a guest appearance. It's generally a good idea to burn at half the max speed of the disc. That being said, everybody's burner is different. You may end up having to experiment and see what works for you. 4x is a good place to start, if that doesn't work, go from there.

I just checked my cheap tesco DVD+Rs 8X on DVD Decrypter for disc id and its MCC-004-00

In first post it says these are 1st class media.

Ive only been downloading games for 1 week and burned my first game (Black) yesterday onto the tesco dvd and it worked great but didnt want to keep using them as someone said cheap dvd's can damage the laser.

Is there any truth to this?

Sorry for asking alot of questions im just curious to know as much info before I go on my burning quest :D

Well the repeated use of cheap dyes from CMC Mag or other crap manufacturers will wear down your PS2 laser a lot quicker than Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim dyes. It looks like you lucked out and got some Mitsubishi Chemical (Verbatim) discs. Don't go buying Tesco left and right thinking that's the norm. In the future if you want to use Verb's, buy them by name.

@Tokijin - lmao, just saw the the replies about the 'sexy' Verbs TY, indeed they are.

@lvlarc_uk - Tokijin's quite right, places like Tesco will be a mixed bag for brand/quality (and definitely price also). i'm only really a Sainsburys man myself, but the same applies for discs there. as to those eBay discs, provided the correct tub(s) turn up you hit lucky this time (not in price though, way over the odds), well i guess i say that as the Panasonic TY are in stock at svp now. if there wasn't an alternative and i was desperate for Verb TY or vanilla TY i guess i would have paid what you did (for the odd tub) to keep me going.

Anyways, as to burn speed, i personally have always been a 4x man, a few 1000 of successful burns/playbacks that way. i did experiment with 8x for a while but my latest burners (2 LG drives) are finicky with 8x and (sometimes) fail in the actual burn. Now at least if that happens i know i got a bum disc but my concern is always that if i burn at 8x on these drives and it works, i don't know the burn is actually 100%, ie 'til i watch the disc, up to a few weeks/months later, by then i could have amassed quite a collection of useless discs. yet more wasted time/money/patience.

This last few days i've been finally making a start on eradicating any remaining Bulkpaq Orange discs (FAKE TYG02 coding - GRRRR!!) from my collection but have to re-rip from my originals as 99% of the Bulkpaq are uncopyable (i've got about 200 left to do, most of which are corrupt). This whole dvd burning lark pisses me right off most at times like this, but at least i'm burning onto quality media now, and the majority of my collection is on quality media. For me it's the wasted time and money that's annoying, and i get very distrustful of media, a lot of those Bulkpaq were burned at 4x and burned fine, even played fine for a while, but now each one i play skips like mad/or whirrs in a burner cus it's unrecognisable/or just plain fails copying due to damn corruption. <rant over>!

Hey also could someone help me out with booktyping. I heard booktyping a DVD+R to a DVD-Rom makes it better for PS2.

Here is a screeny I took.
