OK Now my download rate is 5-20 KB (This is with the same options that made it go 40-90 and eventually to 200-400) This doesn't apply to other torrents im downloading(Though I still want 200 for nearly each one)

you should only be donwloading one at a time, multiple torrents will kill your speeds.

truly,
Download DrTCP and use it to change your MRU, read that on the page u sent me, bottom left ;)

lol I mean One torrent I download goes fast, then slow and I want to know how to make it go fast(I download one at a time :P).

However that issue doesn't apply to other torrents I try downloading they still download at 40-80 kb and I want to know how to make it download at 200 kb.

waht is the seed/peer ratio and from what site?

truly,
yes MRU was a typo :P, i dont know why it wont stick, that seems odd to me, but if it wont let u it wont let you, nothing to be done about it.

Both of you are on fiber lines, in which i do not have any experience, im used to cable and dsl. Im sorry if i cannot be of more help :(

Hi guys, I'm on a laptop, and using a linksys router for a wireless connection. I ran a speed test and it said my max DL speed was around 3400 kb/s and upload was around 350 kb/s...

Im not getting better than 80 kb/s downloads... is that normal

PS. Not using private tracker... cant get invites >_<

thanks

DVD,
First off, this seems to be an excellent guide. I have yet to test if this will improve my DL speed, but I like the fact that it's very well written and is easy to follow. Couple of questions tho...

1) You said the following:

"If you are behind a router, please visit http://www.portforward.com and then select your router, and then Utorrent or torrent. Follow every step to forward your ports and allow greater access to better speeds for your torrents."

After going to the portforward site and following the links that correspond to my router, it says to make sure the Enable UPnP box is unchecked. Any reason why that is? I remember researching this a while back and I think it's because it's a security issue. I don't think it's a big concern since rav009's guide didn't mention that when setting up utorrent. Just wondering if that setting affects speed

2) You also said:

"Under preferences in Utorrent, go to Torrents and set global max and max connections to 450."

I'm assuming set global max is "global max number of connections" and
max connections is "max number of connected peers per torrent". I'm guessing the time when you wrote your guide, you were using an earlier version of uTorrent and the uTorrent preference settings were worded differently.

I haven't really complained about my speeds, but I just wanna see if I can tweak them a bit more. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Yes uTorrent seems to change the wording/location of the options every time they release a new version, perhaps just screwing with us?
Anyways Im sure DvdBack will make any changes if needed. Keep updating the great guide buddy, ill add anything if i find something useful...

Thank you so much for this thread, it has upped my average speeds from 40-50 to between 100 and 200 for 1 gb +

(currently downloading vista and the prospect of waiting nearly a week was just a pee take XD)

Hi, I live in London and im subscibed to a 24 meg broadband. I took the speed test and it says that my download rate is 12819kbps and my upload rate is 1259kbps. I only get a max download rate of 350kbps. Don't you think I should be getting faster download rates, at least up to 1200kbps? I did all that stuff word for word, is there anything else I can do?
