you get like 42kbps download speed having only 14 seeds connected. You're luckier than me. I definitely know that something went wrong after that thing happened to me. Cuz I'm downloading a movie and Am connected to at least 92 seeders and yet, my download speed is only 42kbps. Same as yours, but you are only connected with 14 seeds. I'm suppose to get at least 114+ download speed with that many seeds connected. I used to get that speed before but now, it sucks as hell.

Thank you for the guide! This is my first time using a torrent and everything has been going smooth. If i am reading the screen right it appears that my download speed is 122.4 kB/s and my upload speed is 63.7 kB/s.... do these numbers seem reasonable?

you should probably have 200 KB/s max download speed and 80 max upload so youre numbers seem very reasonable unless you have a faster connection than i suspect.

well just check it again and it was 260.5 kB/s for a download speed and an upload speed of 62.1 kB/s.... these numbers seem to be very reasonable... thanks again

Not sure where to put this, but you seem to be the most knowledgeable about all this torrent stuff... I download a torrent then played it with VLC media player, the movie worked but there was no sound. Any ideas?

Hey! sorry to bother you DVD, but i see that many people have been helped by ur guide, albeit some bugs, and i hope u can help me out too :)

i am relatively confused by the various terms used to describe speeds, such as megabits or megaBYTES, and as i am from singapore there are no speed tests avaliable for my bandwidth...however the most i can do is provide the direct link to the advertised speeds for my plan itself, so i am hoping u can decipher those terms and tell me my ideal dl and ul speed... http://www.starhub.com/online/maxonline/.../priceplan.html
i am using Maxonline 4000 ( 4000kbps dl, 256kbps ul )

i followed ur guide but as such with a 44 seed and 55 peer ratio i only got 20kb/sec...does the listening port i am using affect my dl speed? i am not using a router...i have set global connections to 450 and max upload slot per torrent from 50 to 25. ( my speed increased to 60 after i changed from 50 to 25, and changed the listening port...)
in any case anything else i can tweak? thanks alot, dvd :)

sorry for the double post but i forgot to mention the TOTAL seeders and leechers...i only mentioned the ones i were connected to ( dunno if that matters though..) anyways now its 36(68) for seeds and 53(140) for leechers

Quote:
2) Next visit http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ pick the city closest to yours and get your max upload speed. Now with that same number, (for eg. 300 kb/s) divide first by 8 (eg. 300/8 = 37.5) then take that number you just got and multiply it by .8 (eg. 37.5*.8 = 30) The final number you get is your Global Max Upload, which can be set in the Preferences section of Utorrent.
thats the step to see ur max speeds ;)

also, where are you downloading from? private or public tracker?

I've been using utorrent(uT) for a few weeks and have tried to increase my dl speeds. I'm on 1 1500kbs/756kbs DSL line. I'm using a d-link router.

I've got uT set to upload at 50kbps max and unlimited d/l. I top out about 90 (rarely)kbps, usually more like 50~

I've been using UPnP and the logger tells me that port 55818 is connected.

Last week I went in and setup XP to use a static IP and configured my router to that. That day my modem locked up and my dsl was down about 6 hours. I wound up calling my ISP and they dianosed that problem. Had to reset the modem.

Coincidence? Hadn't had a problem in about 4 years.

When I got the modem working I reset the router and XP to dynamically assigning IPs.

Can I use UPnP and get good speeds or should I go back and use static IPs? Under static I was assigning port 55818.

I may not be getting good seeder ratio. Reading this thread I've learned to watch this ratio more. I'll try that.

ok to be honest, i dont even use a static IP or forward my ports anymore, began to be too much of a hassle. As long you get in with a good private tracker, and have every other setting set like in my guide you should be maxing out (which for you will be around 150 KB/s)
