Independence Compiler 2.2 has been released (Available at http://AusDigital.Net)

Independence Compiler 2.2
-Added Bootable CD Feature (where instead of booting the exploit installer, it boots the loader so you can use the apps
on the cd without installing them. If you need to install them run the EXPINST.ELF file included on the disc!
-Allows selection of network support or not.
-Outputs IPCONFIG.DAT AND CONFIG.DAT (for execftp)
-Now selects correct screen mode depending on region in system.cnf

Independence Compiler 2.1
-New interface
-PS2OS is now included
-Bootadvance is now a loader instead of an extra
-Supports multiple title id codes.
-Bugfix, thanks "IncredibleMe" for pointing out a labeling error (NTSC and PAL were around the wrong way!)

Getting it to the memory card isn't the problem. I do have swapmagic disks and a slidecard. I just have'nt tried it yet. I just figured if it did'nt do what I wanted, meaning allow me to run my backup games without having to use a slide card to put the backup in the drive it wouldn't really be worth my efforts.

I guess I'll just give it a go and see what happens.

You can add other apps along with HD Loader like coqswap which I have read allows you to boot backups (you may require cd/dvd loader for toc swap). I have noth I can confirm that the apps. boot up but have not tried booting a game with them although I have heard they do work. I am not very knowleable in this field.

If you want to know all possible methods for exploiting ps2 that are possible with the hardware you have, visit http://ausdigital.net/?go=start

Basically it will tell you what you can do to install the exploit. Many of the comments will require you to have Independence Exploit Compiler 2.2 - but that is there anyway.

I hope this helps cause I put alot of effort into this a while back, and many people found it helpful.

This is probably a really dumb question but I am assuming that for the ps2, any burnt games I make have to be on a DVD recordable media.
The reason I am asking is that I have noticed some burning progs out there that say you can watch dvds off of a CD-R. So I am wondering if I should get a DVD burner or just try one of those other progs.
Thx

If games will FIT onto CDR, you can burn them onto CDR.

You can but not all DVD players will read them. If its not on a DVDR it's not really a valid DVD format.

We are. But considering that all PS2s have a dvd player. Also Sony writes games on dvds i believe.

Yep, indeed, and u can tell by the size most of the time, IF they are DVD or CD's..

Altough i have seen games in DVD format that were about 500 MB

If the Dvd game is small like 500MB in size you can use a tool like C.M.P. patcher v1.1 to patch the game to CD.You can rip Dvd games over the 700MB size also to cd-r,but requires more cd-rs to be used, and is alot harder to do ;).Dvd media just makes it easier to backup your games, making it where there is no need to go through all the extra steps. It is more convenient to have a dvd burner, well worth it in my opinion. You can get Dual Layered burners for like 80 dollars now also,so it is affordable and would be less of a hassle. If you plan on using a cd-recorder then you will have to learn more advance ripping techniques.Trust me it is harder to rip a Dvd game to numerous cd-r discs than to just burn a dvd game to dvd media.Like a_l_e_x said if a cd-r media can hold 700MB and there is a dvd game that is 500MB,you can patch it to cd-r and have the game pick up in the PS2 with a cd-r.

My problem is I just forked out money on swap magic and I ordered a custom blue crystal case w/flip top for my ps2. So the dvd burner is going to have to wait. I have looked at tutorials and think that FTP straight to the playstation is probably the best way, even thought it may be more difficult. But once it is set up, you don't need to worry about dvd or cd. I am an image burning maniac. If I can put it on a harddrive, what's the point of using discs.

Since am here now, I would like to know how i can make a cd-r with multiple elf files on it.

I have a matrix Infinity, and i can store like 5 apps on the memcard,
I would like to know how to make a cd with multiple elf's on it.

I made lik 6 cd's of about 3 MB per cd now :S kind of a waste i think, if i could at least put 15 Mb of apps on cd. am a happy man.

I just dont know what i should alter in the INSTALL files.

1 install file with multiple commands?
or multiple files with "normal" commands?

In his post he was questioning "watching DVD's on CD-R". So I assumed he was refering to movies not games. I know games can be burnt to a CD-R and played back fine. But movies are different. If you burn a DVD format onto a CD-R it is not a valid DVD format and will not be playable in all DVD players. That's what I meant. Sorry if I misunderstood.

yeah pity the ps2 doesn't natively support VCD, but there is the programming tools out there (@ ps2dev.org) you just have to use it. The ps2 has a full hardware mpeg2 decoder.. so why not use it ;-)

Yep, and why wud u want 4 GB DVD-R's, if u can play 700 MB DivXand Xvid :D

I watched 2 DivX movies on my ps2 today. I only had to install the PS2 reality elf on my memcard, start it up, and put in the AVI i burned on a cd-r as plain data with Nero startsmart.

So I got the trigger disk to boot up and everything worked great a grand total of ONE time, even played Vice City off the hard drive. My concern is I tried to swap some elf files and now it will load all the way up to the point where it is sposed to have a grey GUI where you can manuever your way to the elfs. Then it just turns a solid grey and says "It is currently using mode 4". Any help here.

I'm not sure what has happened and the only advice I can offer is to reinstall the exploit. But dont take my word as gospel wait and see if someone more knowledgeable suggests something better.

I know this is a lame question but ill ask anyway.. Ive burned the expoit startup disc multiple times on multiple media, im using a swap mag 3.0 disc.. but when I try to boot the exploit disc it will not go, it just sits there reading.. Am I supposed to be seeing files copy?

Im using the Idependence compiler 2.2 with just some of the standard elfs, and keylauncher loader..

Any suggestions would be greatly apprieciated..

thanks

WOOHOO! All I had to do was plug the HD into my 'puter and reformat it. Something to do with the flags on the HD (I think). I used codebreaker (I really recommend it if you have a JumpDrive OR HDD, Will detect and let you transfer between MC, JumpDrive, AND HDD. Plus saves on CD-R since you can just swap the JD between 'puter and PS2).

I also used swap magic (V2.0 i think) and had lots of probs with the burning part. What I found out is that if you are using nero, when you click the iso tab and are choosing Mode, ISO Level, and Charactor set, on my nero joliet was checked as default. UNCHECK IT! That was the only default setting on nero that I had to change that wasn't covered in any walkthoughs I read. I made about 23 frisbees before I caught on to that. The independance compiler v2.2 (I got mine off of Ausdigital.net) Should work just fine. Thats the one I used. If you use codebreaker and have a jumpdrive, make sure you make the appropriate .cbe save files.
