dutchs,
Some gamecubes read discs better then others. Sometimes different burners burn gamecube games better. All of this is quite weird and pretty random.

Bakuryu42,
The Max Drive pro can be used to transfer saves from a computer to the memory card and load dol files on the cube. I am not sure what an action replay does.

gm14zero: an action replay is like a gameshark

Bakuryu42: you have to own an action replay. max drive pro allows you to update your code list, without having to manually type them in.

So I have to get both, meh what ever I have two gamecubes now to try it on heh.

I think this was addressed already, but when I click on the link to the product the pictures shows one disk and it has DEV 3 on it along with Max Drive Pro at the bottom, is this the right one or what?

Yup, the link on the first page of the tutorial is the one we have all gotten here. And yeah, the picture doesn't look like what you what actually get... dunno why they haven't changed it yet though.

I am planning on posting my own version of this tutorial based on my experience and posting it on my website. I will credit brucedlx of course. You know eveyone looks at something different. I still find it weird that the packaging and memory card said max drive while the discs said max drive pro.

zztone, you are unclear. Firstly do you realise that you have to choose "burn image" not create a data DVD and copy the Iso into it?

Yes I do realize you have to burn image. I have bought some new Piodata mini dvds and these actually work, all I can say is I must have bought some naff discs previously because everything is fine now and thankyou very much for the tutorial

The reason I was confused about the action replay is because the action replay on xbox is only for transfering saves and cant be used for cheats.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know that I ordered the MAXPRO card and some mini dvds, I followed the tutorial and by the middle of the 1st page I had a fully working copy running on the gamecube. So it works. I had to pull the card out and reinstert it a few times when I went to load up GCOS and had to do that each time so dont get discouraged there. Then after I got GCOS up and running I just burnt a .GCM changed to .ISO using Nero with no special options just double clicking it and letting it run. The game booted up fine but gave me a disc read error at firat. But from my days of burning with the dreamcast I know that the full motion video intros are what crash the copied games so I just started it up agian and press start really quick to cancel the intro and it works great! so if it crashes on you with disc read error just try and cancel the ful motion video intro if it has one. Everything else was just as it saysa easy to do really and Im glad it worked because there seem to be so many people who cant figure it out?!?!

yea, it does work great. if you have disc read errors i would reccomend that you try to fix the POT setting of the laser. at first i was scared to mess with it. but i fixed the ohm level of the laser and i have no disc read errors at all. the games load on the first try and there are no problems what so ever. it even loads non burnt games faster.

and it has no effects on your gamecube's life.

Ok while I'm at it just wanted to let you know once I got the GCOS loaded up on the game cube I copied the MAXPRO file and the GCOS 1.5 file to normal memory card, it's totally stable and loads up everytime. If the ohm setting for the laser is easy to access then I'll try it but if I need the special gmae bits to open the game cube Ill live with canceling intro movies.

Hey guys, I got everything to work perfectly. Once in a while, I would choose the boot game option and the screen woudl go all pink, but I just restart the booting process. This tutorial is great, and all of my burned games work. Awesome tutorial bruce!

Im on a role now! I forgot that I have the broad band adapter in my GC so I got the GCOS server running on my machine now and I can browse my drive from the game cube... but thats as far as I get I can get the sar cube running at 100mbit full duplex but after that I dont know what to do? I have several images I used to burn the mini dvds but I dont know how I load those images from the drive to the game cube??? I tried the http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx thing and browse to an image in the browser and it only gives me the option to see one of the images and when I try to load it gives me and out of memory error or something? where can I find out how too load from GCOS using images from the computer with the broad band adapter??? Thanx!

you dont need a gamebit

mrboy: take a plastic pen, take out the ink, and heat up the end of it and jam it on the screws. it will then have the gamebit shape and you can take the screws out. and as far as skipping the intro movies, some games dont allow you, and its not in the intro movies. its actually when the gamecube is reading the disc. that can occur at anytime.

also, i have a macintosh, so i cannot use the broadband adapter method. so no help there.

and if any one wants to know how to burn games on an OSX i figured out how to.

open up your disk utility, click on images>burn and then find your gamecube.iso game and click burn. make sure you have it on 4x.

I bought my Gamecube when they first announced the $99.99 pricedrop in the US, its been played quite often, but is still in great shape, no probs with it at all. Im really trying to avoid having to open up the console, i've had bad experiences with modding consoles. Max Drive Pro seems to be the way to go.

So i was wondering what are the chances that I would be able to play a dvd-r without messing with my POT settings.

well, the chances are 50/50. my gamecube played most, not all games fine. but it seemed like the newer games that i burnt did not want to play. and i know it seems like a lot of work to fix the POT settings, well for me, it really freaked me out. i thought it was going to take a long time and that i was going to mess up. well anyways i opened it up and within 15 minutes i was done. the gamecube loaded games faster, and will play every single game the first time.

so i think if you are wanting to play every game that you can, you will have to mess with the POT settings.

The search function isn't helping me...

But is the Phantasy Star method the only way of backing up your games? Are there any other ways? I plan on buying a premodded GC with the full size top, will I also have to buy the broadband adapter and PSO just to back up my games? Or isn't there any other way?

Couple of questions.

1. The Max Drive Pro cost about $40. I can get a XenoGC modchip for $20, which will play games without swapping disk, etc.

Is the only advantage to this method is you dont have to modify your gamecube?

2. Do you have to insert the Max Drive Pro disk every time you play a game or is it a one time thing?

1> Yes apart from that max drive is a massive memory card and you can download gamesaves (although I've found this to be very unreliable, downloaded some saves that corrupted my max drive and had to format it a few times)

2>Yeah you need it everytime you want to boot a backup and it takes about 30 seconds longer than normal. Meaning that if it gets scratched beyond use you cant play any backups so take care of it if you get one.

How annoying, i went ahead and bought one off of the Codejunkies site, on the website it said that the Availibility was "immediate". Get my order confirmation, and an update a few mins later saying that the item is out of stock ><...

I also dont like the fact that their factories are in the UK. Their US HQ is a building located 30 min from where i am, wish i could go and pick it up there...

Sort of off topic, but does Action Replay come in a disc form, or only as a memory card?

From the codejunkies site
": Will I need to modify my Gamecube to install the Action Replay?

A: You do not need to "open" your Gamecube. The Action Replay is a universal software disc (like a game disc) which works with a cartridge inserted in a memory card slot to allow you to use cheat codes and enable the loading of import games on any Gamecube. This product does not invalidate your Gamecube warranty as you do not need to modify it in any way. "

so I think the answer is it's a disc and a cartridge, much like the max drive pro.

I think if you can get GCOS onto your memory card you can boot it and play backps using the action replay disc instead of the max drive pro disc, not sure of this tho

are you burning as an image?
if so, you are having a laser error. you have to open up your gamecube and adjust your laser POT setting. read the previous posts by other people that gives the link on how to adjust your laser.
