Ok I just installed swapmagic fliptop on a slim ps2. After doing so my ps2 now will not read any disks, be it backups, legit ps2 games, or the swap magic disks. The install of the fliptop seemed to go smoothly. Any ideas? The disk does not seem to be spinning at all.

Did a small rectangular piece of metal fall out when installing? If one did, it fits into the side of the casing, opposite to the disc place. It has a circular hole in the center of it. I had this fall out on me and it really does effect the laser.

Thanks for that link, I appreciate it. I do think the fliptop is not reaching one of the sensors that tells the system that the top is closed. I checked the sensors and they appear to be functional, they didn't break off or anything. I'm going to try ghetto rigging it with some tape or tissue when I get home.

holy crap it worked. i had to tape those 2 buttons down. i was able to load up the swap magic disk and then pop in my import. played for awhile earlier. later on for some reason now it won't read the swap magic disk, says there was a read error or something. gonna keep tinkering.

Right on glad it worked. Thanks to svtStang for that tip.

Now thats too bad you have disk read errors though, unless the disk was not pushed down all the way. I have had that happen.
Do the regular PS2 games work ok, or does this just happen now with the swap magic.

I got it working again. The swap magic DVD wasn't reading, so I used the CD and it worked. Later I used the DVD again and it worked later. Maybe it just wasn't pushed down all the way. Or my system is intermittently crappy. But it's working, so I'm happy.

Thats good its working.... another possibility is the DVD itself does not work all the time. I had to send my SM 3.8 DVD back when I got it cause it only worked once in awhile. And all my other DVD worked fine and my PS2 was new.
They just exchanged it for me. Depends where you bought it from, and if they will exchange it. You will know after awhile if it keeps doing it and your other DVD's work fine.

Hey guys - I found this forum while looking on google for any helpful solution to my problem with the SM discs. After looking through the entire thread, it seems no one else (aside from RBTCS) has had a similar problem so I am in desperate need of help.

I recently bought the SM 3.6 discs a few weeks back and they boot fine, but every time I try to boot the import(Narutimate Accel) it skips back to the browser for a second, then gives me the red 'Insert a PS or PS2 format disc' message. I even tried the TOC disc swap method with both of the SM discs and get the same error. The game is the original import copy and the PS2 model is an SCPH-39001. Help would be much appreciated.

EDIT - I forgot to mention that I use the Slide Tool also.

Hello there...
Okay, I'm new here, but I'm hoping that someone here will be able to help me. I've read through maybe 50% of this thread, but nothing jumped out as something helpful.
I recently bought Swap Magic 3.6 with the tools for the slim PS2 to play backed up games. I installed tools A and B (the disk break and the one near the front of the PS2) but I can't seem to install the C one in the back. I noticed that the disk still spins when the top is down, so I just left it out for now.
So I've been trying to get a backed up copy of a game running (Guitar Hero 2) to no avail. I pop in the DVD Swap Magic and get the PS2 logo (sometimes garbled up, tho). When it's loaded, I pop the top (the screen says "insert larger TOC disk") and put in my backup. When it's in, it says "not a valid PS2 disk." When I try to "load program" nothing happens (same for square).
For kicks, I've done the same thing with a real game (Guilty Gear X) and it still says "not a valid PS2 disk," but when I hit X it loads it up like normal.
I've tried several burned DVDs using different programs and on different computers and non have work (I've probably got 6 or 7 disks now...). I was directed here (http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm) from somewhere about the quality of disks, so I bought some Sony disks and two of those haven't worked either.
I'm getting a bit frustrated as there are few places on the 'net willing to help and am considering selling my Swap Disks to make up for the money I've blown trying to get this shit to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Andy

(Oh, and in the thread about Alcohol 120% I noticed that there was some option in the burning menu about PS2 disk, was that removed in newer versions. I can't seem to find any mention of it outside of the options.)

Ok here is a link to a post with links to show you how to use another method for your Part C or 3 piece. Once that is installed correctly you should have no problems.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/5/312994#2776706

That thread may also help you with the magic keys.
As for Alcohol, I have not used it in so long I am not sure, I just use DVD Decrypter for burning ISO and making backups.
Here also is Steimy's Guide to DVD Decryptor

DVD Decrypter was one of the programs I used. Along with Alcohol and DeepBurner.

Thanks for the link, I'll give that a try...

[edit]
Even the straw thing was annoying because closing the top would mess up the placement. So I opened up the PS2 and did the tape method. That worked fine, now the disk spins even when the top's open.

Got my backup to load fine last night. Now my Swap Magic disk is crapping out on me. It was giving me a read error, so I wiped it off with a rag for glasses. Now it brings me to the browser when I try to load it. Clicking on it again, just brings me back to the browser. Any thoughts? Did I get a shitty disk? The CD one took a few tries, but it loaded eventually.

[edit edit]
The f***ing disk works just fine in my brother's PS2 and in my PS3. But no, the only one that's modded is the one it won't f***ing work in. And it's not like I messed up something when I opened the PS2, cause all my regular DVDs run perfectly fine. The CD disk is giving me the "unable to read disk" error now too. What the f*** am I doing wrong?

Try unplugging the PS2 for 5 mins. And maybe getting a repack.

i posted this earlier on ddrfreak but i might as well post it here too; i really need help lol:

"hi

my friend sold me his Dance Dance Revolution: Extreme (the japanese version) since his ps2 with a modchip broke.

then, i bought a fliptop and swapmagic (3.6 i think)

i put the fliptop on and everything and whenever i load in the game after switching the swapmagic out, it says "not a valid ps2 disc." i know the swapmagic works since i tried loading an american ps2 game with it (We Love Katamari, to be exact). also, normal games without using the swapmagic worked fine.

anyone have a solution to this?
thanks in advance!

PS i can elaborate on anything if i didnt explain it well enough. sorry 'bout that"

oh yeah sorry for the double post but it was an original copy of the imported game, not a backup or whatever

Hello, I have the following problem:
I have a PAL PS2 SCPH-50004 and no internal modchips. I use Swap Magic Coder 3.8 to load NTSC/UC games. I have problems with Xenosaga Episode I: Der Willle zur Macht (original NTSC). I know about getting bigger TOC so I bought Champions of Norrath (original PAL) but even refreshing the TOC with Champions'one, nothing change. It seems I can't load my own Xenosaga I. Do you know a possible solution?

maybe you have to rebuildt the game
or use cogswap nearly every game work with it without to rebuildt or something like that
