Razor, I've been doing some research on booting cheat devices and whatnot with SM and you just descrived more or less what is reccomended on how to voot the swap magic DVD into a back-up of codebreaker. the difference is instead of Cd7all you use DVDloader. I might suggest trying that and seeing what you get...

Thanks for all your help and all your work. I know everyone here appriciates everything you do. Take care.

Hey there, wondering if anyone could help me with my swap magic issues.

I got swap magic so I could play the NTSC version of Final Fantasy XII on my slimline PS2 (PAL). It's quite an early version of the slimline and I've installed the swap tools to use the swap disks.

So I boot up swap magic (version 3) and when I swap the disks it come sup with the message 'not a valid ps2 disk' on the swap disk screen (cue banging head on wall)I'm rather clueless in this area to be honest and I've tried both the CD and DVD disks and cleaned everything I could possibly clean.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

Hi, i've searched countless topics on tips and guides to making swap magic work but all of the tips i've tried haven't worked! i'm starting to think it might be my swap magic discs, but i'm still unsure as to whether i'm following the procedures wrong or what!

Setup:
1. Swap Magic 3.6 CD and DVD-rom driver discs
2. PS2 V4
3. Flip-top cover
4. Philips DVD+/-RW SDVD8820
5. DVD-Decrypter and DVDClone for burning .iso's
6. TDK DVD-R blanks
7. Images downloaded from a torrent site
8. Images are Naruto 3 JP-NTSC, and Naruto Uzumaki Chronicles USA-NTSC

i know #6 and #7 aren't the best quality sources but thats the only thing i've got right now.

I've tried all different methods of swapping discs. i would always have to start the boot with the SM CD because if i load the SM DVD first, it wont read for some reason! So i tried loading the SM CD then Ejecting the tray and switching it with either the SM DVD or a original game (i've tried both discs), after a new message in blue at the bottom of the screen would tell me to "Insert your own program disc," in which i flip the top open and insert my backup, but that would only lead to a black screen. One thing that i've noticed is that at the bottom of the screen it says press X for normal boot and SQUARE for special boot, so i don't really know which one to push. Unfortunately I purchased the boot discs and the flip-top as a combo and they did not provide me with instruction manuals. I posted this topic in hopes for a quick response as to whether it would be my non-reading SM DVD or my steps being wrong. If it were to be my SM DVD i would need to call them asap and request them to send me a new one.

Sorry for yet another redundant "help me load my backups!" question, but there are some steps and procedures that people provide that are a bit unclear. All specific tips and guides will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

lukeye, have you tried booting an original game?

soulzx, you have a little bit more of a problem...Firstly, how are you booting your DVD SM with your CD SM? That is (according to my knowledge) impossible, so the fact that you are doing that is a miracle in itself. Also, drop the TDK. Try booting up a couple original pressed games with SM, if that doesn't work, it is the SM discs.

thanks for the quick response razor

and now that i think about it i dont really know why i'm booting both, i got that info from some other thread (see why i decided to post here? =[)

I did try booting up a original game (Final Fantasy XII DVD) with the SM CD. But the SM DVD will not load to the "Load Program" screen. When i pop in the SM DVD and boot up the PS2 it will take me to the screen where it shows your memory card and the gold disc. If i were to click the gold disc, it would attempt to load but return to the same screen resulting in a loop.

Later today or tomorrow i'm going to borrow some of my cousin's backup games to see if they work with the SM discs. thanks again for the quick response razor.

No need to borrow someone else's backups if you can't boot SM...Have you tried adjusting the laser? I always figured it would be too difficult for a dumbass like myself to do, but with the instructions posted in this thread, it is extremely easy and almost fool-proof=) Until you get SM working, no need to borrow anybody elses backups. However, if they have SM, you could borrow theirs and see if it works on your PS2. If theirs works and yours doesn't, it is obviously the disc. If your SM works on their PS2, and yours works on theirs, might as well trade!

A lot of times, at least for me anyway, that my SM DVD or SM CD didn't work, was simply because.....it's dirty, simply clean it, believe it or not, when i got my SM DVD and SM CD, DVD was alright, but CD was in really bad condition, but after I cleaned it, it works like a charm, anyway, just a tip from my experience

I have a version 1 PS2 (don't tell me that i am old, or i might have to hurt you, lol) and for some reason, when I boot either CDloader, or CDv7all loader, the options of choosing different beta weren't present, well, if you have the similar situation, this is what u can do:

1. Boot up your SM CD as usual
2. Use slide tool to take out your SM CD and put in your CDv7all (I notice that, if you are trying to boot CDloader at this stage, the screen would turn into pink and doesn't work, probably because the size of CDloader is too small, and the laser couldn't detect it, at least for version 1 PS2, but that's just my wild guess)
3. Press X to load your CDv7all
4. Use slide tool to take out your CDv7all and put in your CDloader, and press X, at this stage, you will see Pink Rows: Menu 1, Menu 2, Menu 3, etc.
5. Use slide tool again to take out your CD loader and put in your CDv7all and push X, this time, you will see pink rows: Menu 1 BetaV5, Menu 5V3 no PN, etc. (i probably spell the name wrong but u get the idea)
6. Select your option and play the game you want!

Well, these info might not be helpful, but this should be able to help some of you out there, I hope

yay i got the SM DVD to work! turns out it was the lens that needed a bit of turning. i got my USA-NTSC Uzumaki Chronicles game to work almost flawlessly (sofar). On the other hand my JP-NTSC Naruto 3 is giving me a "not valid ps2 disc" message. Anyone know the root of this problem? I figure it might just be the not so good success rate of the TDKs.

I have problem with my SM. When I put it on then he can't be read by drive in PS2. There're only choice: check Memory Card or try to read disc again.
Week ago I buy PS2 (50004) with SM from my friend. He said that he didn't have any problem with SM (it's true, i saw it before i buy this PS2).
Please help!

Lukeye, tell me everything about the Sm disk you're using. If it's a backup or NTSC version of SM, it will not boot on your PS2 since you have a PAL PS2. if it;s neither of the the things I mentioned, please give us more info so that we can maybe find the reason behind the problem. As it is, we don't have enough information to diagose the issue.

Take care.

It's not backup/NTSC. Swap Magic 3.6 PAL version. It's in good condition.

PS: I bought my PS2 with this Swap Magic from my friend who didn't have big problem with it.

i was actually talking to lukeye...in your ase, it's possible the tools are out of place somehow. look around for an install diagram and make sure everything is how it should be, then try again.

Eeee... i though that if I have old PS2 (I have 50004)then I don't have to install anything in it.

ok it's the old one? I missed that, sorry. it's the old one, eh? I've had a similar prblem before. try cleaning the disk and seeing what happens. it usually works for me. it's also possible that the lens us dirty. try to check those things first and then see what happens. if it still won't load, it may be a slightly more severe issue.

Hmm....it's very strange. I went with PS to my friend (who said that he cleaned lens before) and we clean lens. After that we turn PS on and...Swap Magic was working good! But when I took PS to home then Swap Magic don't want to load again :/. I come back to my friend, and SM didn't work :/. We clean lens and it still didn't work. What the hell is going on?!

Wazup guys, I was wondering why imported and copied games do not display
the same graphics and digital sound as my USA games. I have Swap Magic 3.6 on a slim and have been using Initial D(original), imported from japan, but graphics look dark and washed out, plus i cant use my optical cable because it goes mute so i have to bear with Monolike sound from my T.V. Even though the Game says Digital out(optical)in the back of the case.

Please explain a way I could use my imports like if they were USA games. Meaning because I'm a graphics and digital sound whore. ThanKSSSSSSss DuDeSsss
