John123 you da Man! I've been searching for that same solution after reinstalling Nero, DVDshrink, etc. due to a motherboard flame-out. Guess I was looking in the wrong forums. Thank you for the info & thanks Creaky. This site rocks!

alas that method did not work for me as the discs that come with the burners all drive the burners - no way around it it seems. So, here's a simple question: how can i burn the files just using Nero? i know it is probably as simple as could be but i haven't found a way to do it? thanks, sabrina

hello friends. I have same problem. I have read all thw solution too. I have downloaded Nero 6.6.0.18 too. But the same problem I am facing now. I have PC with WindowsXP having 256MB RAM. When I start burning process with Nero it shows two errors consecutively. first it shows "Can not connect TRF" and after clicking ok another error shows "Memory is not enough" And at the same time window XP prompts a help icon to improve my virtual memory. But i have kept my paging file setting like
C drive : initial 512MB and Maximum 1000MB
D drive : initial 512MB and Maximum 700MB
E drive : initial 512MB and Maximum 1000MB
Now please guys help me out .. i m tired in finding solution to this threat..

Hi niket09
Welcome to aD
What movie are you doing with Shrink?
Are you keeping as much memory free as possible? Shrink can be quite intensive so no multi tasking and shut down any unnecessary processes.
512mb ram is better if you can upgrade.
Have much hard drive space do you have free also?
You could also post the last Nero failure log. It's located at program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory
Just be sure to edit out your serial number - they usually begin w/ 1A, 1C, 5C.

thanks for ur reply
actually i hv 4.57gb free on c drive, 1.43gb free on D drive, and 3.52gb free on E drive...is it sufficient?
and my serial number starts with 1A20....so is there any prob with this?
There is no question of vidie or audio writing....even i cannot write a data file (word or excell or any) on the cd... !!
waiting for ur reply

Well to do a movie you don't have sufficient hard drive space left + if your getting the memory error - windows is also trying to access virtual memory via free hard drive space.
Try and clean up as much space as possible.
No problem with the serial # - just when you post the log make sure you edit it out before posting it.
Since this problem is more than just Shrink autoburning w/ Nero best bet is to start a new thread. We can copy and post the responses into it.

Your clear and helpful explanation of how to cure this problem is much appreciated. However, the Nero website no longer seems to offer this older version but only the 6.6.1.4 version which, as you say, won't work on automatic. Will your link to "Package One" load the entire 6.6.0.18 or is it only an update?
If it's the latter, where can I find 6.6.0.18? Thanks very much!

Hi syncopate
For the full version of Nero use both packages. Package 1 has burning rom, express, toolkit etc. Package 2 has Recode, Vision, Showtime etc.
If you are currently have 6.6.1.4 installed then uninstall it and run the clean tool. Otherwise you should be good just updating to 6.6.0.18.

Hi Binkie7,
Thanks. I cleaned everything (including personal settings) using the clean tool. Then I loaded Package one, followed by Package two. The Nero infotool shows 6.6.0.18 as being the installed version.
But...before even trying to use DVDShrink I tried to copy an unprotected DVD and wound up with the dreaded Blue Screen of Death almost immediately after clicking on Burn. Then, after rebooting, out of curiosity I tried to copy a CD and exactly the same thing happened!
Prior to using the clean tool I had 6.6.1.4 installed and was able to copy CD's and DVD's without a problem; I just couldn't use DVD Shrink.
Where do I go from here??? Thanks, Syncopate.

Hi syncopate
It sounds like you have a conflict somewhere w/ Shrink and your PC.
Have you ever been able to use Shrink? If so what changed since then?
You can try uninstalling Shrink then doing a fresh download and reinstalling - may work.
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_...
Do you receive this error and the BSOD with anything else?
To copy unprotected DVD/CD's you can use Nero express - disc copy option.
If it needs to be compressed to fit to a DVD5 - you can use Recode.
For copy protected ones you can have AnyDVD (free 21 day trial) running in the background and use Recode or rip to your hard drive 1st w/ DVD Fab Decrypter (free) than open those files in Recode.

HELP!!!! I've been having trouble burning with my external dvd burner all of a sudden. At first I was getting that \nCannot connect TRF error but now after uninstalling my Nero and putting the 6.6.0.18 on it this is what I'm getting. I've also uninstalled my DVD Shrink and put it back on there and still am having issues.

I have had many of these problems. It first started when I had to buy new disks (I stuck with the same kind I have used since I first started burning, Verbatim). I kept getting a "Not writeable media" error. I just chalked it up to a bad batch of disks. I then got Memorex disks. Again, "Not writeable media" error. I then tried to burn a CD with my burner but I couldn't get it to work. At this point, I figured my burner had died. I bought a new external burner and I got the same errors. I then upgraded my Nero, which of course then caused me the TRF error. I downgraded and had the same problem as before. I just tried again with a disk that came with the burner (Memorex +R) and it burned with not problems. This would apparently point to both kind of disks that I bought being non-compatible. The disks I usually use are Verbatim -R. I read a thread somewhere that talks about media quality and some kind of code. It was pretty Greek to me. Will someone in layman's terms explain which media I should buy. I don't want to waste anymore money on disks that won't work. My original DVD burner is a Iomega Super DVD 16X burner and my new one is a Memorex MRX-51OLE 16X burner. Please someone help me with how to find the media codes and which ones to buy.
Thanks, Shawn

Here's a link:

Does this look like that my only problem is with the disks? Again, someone please help with what kind of disks should I buy. I've always bought -R's also, should I be buying +R's?
Thanks,
Shawn

Hi undrwy
Your drive has firmware which is like an operating system that tells it how to read/write (mainly write though) to different media. It contains media codes to give it the proper strategy. If it doesn't have these it will use a generic one which doesn't always work.
To find the media compatible for your drive look on their website - in a quick google I can't find the memerox drive.
Good ones to use are verbatim or taiyo yuden (in store look for 8x made in japan only Sony or Fuji).
Your best bet is to post your last error log in the Nero (preferable) or Shrink forum and we can go from there. Just remember to edit the serial # - they w/ 1A,1C or 5C.
The logs can be located at: program files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.
editted to add: Sorry Shaun I was typing as you posted this give me a minute and I'll go thru it.

Thanks. The actual part number is 3202-3288. I think I may have found something but let me know if you find anything else. Thanks again.

@undrwy
Ok - you may need a fimrware update for your drive - but you'll need to check Memorex's site. I can't find one to match you model # and part #.
Your receiving an illegal disc error which the likely causes are firmware not up to date and/or media using.

Try 4x - if that works go up no higher than 8x.

Rocio doesn't always play well w/ Nero - can conflct.
So you can uninstall Roxio and run the zapper to remove all traces.

What did you find?

Looks like it's working now. All I did was zapped Roxio. I'm waiting on Memorex tech support to contact me about an updated driver but in the mean time, it looks like it was just Roxio. That annoys me because, I really liked that program. I thought it was very simple to use and I never had an issue with it. Thank everyone for their help!!!!

Hey everyone, I had the same problem burning movies with Nero but came up with a workaround. Instead of burning the DVD with DVD Shrink try saving it to your HD as an ISO file then burn the ISO file using DVD Decrypter in ISO write mode. Works great with the Nero update no need for older drivers. You just have to remember to switch back to file mode to backup another DVD. Hope that helps you out.
If you don't ask you'll never know!
