For DVD Shrink and Nero to work properly with no problems, you must have Nero version 6.6.0.18 OR EARLIER. Newer versions of Nero 6 (6.6.1.45) or Nero 7 do not work properly (I found out the hard way) You can go to Nero's website and download the 6.3.1.25 version of the Nero 6 burning program, just remember to write down your program or serial number to install the program you need. If your cd/dvd burner came with a Nero OEM software package bundled with your unit, check for the version on it, it may be the version you need for the correct DVD Shrink to Nero connection for burning.

Remember version 6.6.0.18 or earlier for the Nero burning program.

I agree with Binkie7---I have two computers I use to backup DVDs. On the one i use Nero 6.6.0.18 with DVD Shrink which works just fine, but on the other computer I use Nero 7 with either DVD Shrink or Nero Recode. I like Nero recode because it is so much faster than shrink and seems to give just as good results. I decrypt using DVD FAB Express because it is updated regularly and, except for recently when they have had problems with some Beta versions, works very well. On balance, if I had my druthers, I would use Nero7 with recode and DVD FAB express. I have found, also, that when using Nero 7/Recode, it works better if I regularly do a disk defrag and ccleaner to clean out the crap which seems to sometimes conflict with Nero 7/Recode. As you use these programs you will come across the combination which works best for you and your setup.

I do not have Nero 7, I only have been using Nero 6 (oem copies with the dvd burners I purchased), but even still I believe this info should have been made more clear to people who 1st see this and want to use it, such as me, that there was a limitation on Nero's version to use with DVD Shrink. I am sure by now they may have cleared the bugs... I found out the hard way by using updates to Nero then having problems burning, but when I went back to the oem versions, it worked fine, so at that point I learned to use onlt the oem versions with no updates applied.

Hi guys, I have a shiny new A8JS laptop and the burner wont work >_> The trouble was that it wouldnt even burn with Nero separately..

I've uninstalled both Nero (yes i used the cleaner) and dvdshrink, installed Nero 6.6.0.18 many times and it just will not work. here's my log:

Hi nomis1
Here's a few suggestions:
Disc Manufacturer: TTH02
Okay discs - try taking the burn speed down to 4x.

File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS':
Roxio and Nero don't always play well together so you can uninstall Roxio and run the Zap Tool to remove all traces.

Give another burning program a go - try this good free one - ImgBurn.
Use the build mode to burn the files from Shrink.

Give that a go and let us know.

edit: fix link :)

Hi binkie7,

Thanks for the quick response but I think it was mainly user error at my end. I didn't realise when it came up with the error message it had actually burnt something to the dvd - so when i tried again (after cleaning+reinstalling rolled back version) it gave me an (undescriptive) error so i thought the 'link' was still broken..

Popped a fresh DVD in when i got home from gfs and it all ran fine ^_^

Hi jamkei
What movie are you doing? The error you're getting means a file is missing or messed up.

Use RipIt4Me - all free and uses Shrink also. Shrink can no longer handle the newer copy protection so that's where RipIt4Me comes in.
Here's a step by step guide.

Or rip 1st w/ DVDFab Decrypter then open those files in Shrink.
Free also - link.

Another fix to this problem is to install and use DVD Decrypter to burn the DVD. Go into DVD Shrink's Preferences: Edit > Preferences > File I/O tab > and uncheck "Enable burning with Nero." Then when DVD Shrink has finished its initial analysis you can choose "ISO Image File and burn with DVD Decrypter ^TM" for "Select backup target:".

DVD Shrink will create an ISO on your Hard Drive of the crunched DVD and then will open DVD Decrypter in ISO Write mode and burn the DVD - no sweat.

Hi ericka
Open SmartStart. In the bottom right hand corner you'll see an icon w/ a flame in it. Click on that - product center.
There's a tab there that will list the serial #.

I followed the posts before and installed Nero 6.1.1.3. It autoburned but now I don't have the option to booktype to DVD-ROM. When I had 6.1.1.4, I had the option to Booktype to DVD-ROM using Shrink/Recode. Any thoughts?

DMA needs to be turned on...here is a guide.

This is Nero's own packet writing software which tends to step all over itself...I suggest removal via all of the clean tools available at Nero's website. Reinstall omitting the InCD package.

I followed the posts before and installed Nero 6.1.1.3. It autoburned but now I don't have the option to booktype to DVD-ROM. When I had 6.1.1.4, I had the option to Booktype to DVD-ROM using Shrink/Recode. Any thoughts?
Auto burning is not supported with Nero 6 past version 6.6.0.18...why not use DVD Shrink and then burn with Imgburn or DVD Decrypter, they both have booktyping/bitsetting features.

Well I didn't know you could enable DMA on SATA drives, I don't think you can, but I'll do some research to see if you can. I uninstalled Nero and did a clean install and I think that fixed it. I'll also try Imgburn/decrypter. Thanks.
