Might just be easiest to take Nero down a step to 6.6.0.18 :)
For just this one I would run it thru recode. Since it's already on your hard drive & you have Recode that can take done the bit that it needs and change the target size to 4360 or even 4300 with these discs. Chap. 17 is the end of the movie so you definitely want to be able to play that on this one.
Just trying to save you a step here or there :) Recode will do it all in one step - you can bump down the target size, Recode will adjust the compression to fit to the disc then burn.
Now next time you use Shrink since you changed those settings they will stay by default - so you'll be good w/ Shrink on your next one.
Keep us posted!
Editted to add: Don't forget to take the burn speed down a notch - Recode is usually set to max - lower it to 1/2 the rated speed of the disc.

Just go to the 1st page of this thread for the Nero links and instructions from johnl123.
You won't lose anything that I know of but you will gain the autoburning bit back w/ Shrink & Nero.
Yes you can use the same serial #'s - ok there.

Hi guys, been coming to this site for a while now but only just registered.
I had to format my computer last week and since then it won't burn after using Shrink. I don't know what's wrong, I hope someone can help.
Here's the the technical bit I don't understand, thanks.

Hi AndyCB
Welcome to aD
Not alot wrong here that I can see. That's a good thing :)
Looks like your biggest problem is using 16x media on a older drive that hasn't had a firmware in about 2 years.
Your drive doesn't fully recognize the media so 16x may be hit or miss on this drive.
Switch the media to 8x or lower - look for Verbatim or made in Japan only Sony, Fuji or Maxell.
Some areas 8x is hard to find - there are some good sites online where you still can get it. Depending on where you are we may be able to recommend a site.

When I was young I had a Sharp Twin Deck Tape Player, in 'Deck a' I'd pop in something like Now That's What I call Music 10, and in 'deck b' a blank cassette, then simply press Record on 'b' and Hey Presto! A short time later I'd have a perfect copy... Why did copying ever get harder than this?
I've been using Maxell disks for years, no problem what-so-ever untill now. I'll try lower speed media, so any sites where I can get it from would be appreciated, I'm in England.
Thanks.

Thanks creaky, looks a very good site.
As binkie said, I do have an old drive, so it might be better if I just get a new one - I assume that would sort my problems out?
What I still don't understand, and I'm sure there is a very easy and straight-forward explanation, why has it suddenly stopped working?

Quote: Nero API version: 6.6.0.18
- an excellent choice of version there; i'm still using 6.6.0.18 and am not budging unless in the future i need to buy new burners that aren't supported in 6.6.0.18
Quote: Recorder: FREECOM_ DVD+/-RW4B, Media type: DVD-R
Disc Manufacturer: RITEKF - 1
Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193
- those Ritek discs seem to be supported in the burners' firmware as they're showing up in this section
Quote: Insert empty disc to write to.
(Medium in drive: unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW.)
- ...however something's not quite right... see next comments..
Quote: Existing drivers:
- the ASPI drivers are supposed to be listed in this section, along with the ATAPI drivers. For the ATAPI drivers, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm (i see DMA is ON for all your devices which is great but in Nero 6.x the ATAPI drivers should always show up in the 'Existing drivers:' section). I can never remember what the ASPI layer does, but it's not listed in the 'Existing drivers:' section either. Try installing version 4.71 from here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm
As to the burners' firmware being 2 years old (ie 2 years out of date), it basically means that newer discs that come out may not be supported or supported poorly, so if our suggestions get you burning successfully again you still might buy some discs that are too new for the firmware to recognise/know what to do with one of these days

They don't do much on a XP system as a XP system uses SPTI.
ASPI is only needed on the older Windows systems.

It's working again, it was simply a case of using 8x disk instead of 16x - Thanks binkie =)
I couldn't understand why it had stopped working after all this time, I'd almost always used Maxell disks but all of a sudden they stopped working, it never (and probably would never of) occured to me that the 16x wrote on the disk could be the problem! But looking at my other disks they all have less than 8x on them... so thanks again!
Andy.

Is there an update for the older version of Nero, that supports lightscribe burning? I'm getting the TRF error using the bundled version of nero(LG burner).
I don't want to give up the lightscribe capability, but burning directly through DVD Shrink would be nice as well.

After burning more backups then I can even count with relatively few issues I?ve recently run into this same problem.
The weird thing about this is only some movies will produce this error others wont .
Even weirder, it can be an old flik with simple encryption that will produce this error and a newer one will burn just fine.
Whenever I get that error ?.
What seems to be working for me is to rip the Flik using AnyDVD or FabDecrypter then run it through VobBlanker ?then let Shrink do its thing.
After that process, Nero 6 .3.1.13 burns the flik just fine.
I don?t get this.If this is a Nero issue why does VobBlanker seem to fix the burning problem?

I'm going to say scam - here's just one clue from the website
Unlike some download services that claim to be "free" we actually offer you the ultimate best value for a small upfront fee.
Shrink is free - you never have to pay for it. But it's no longer updated so someone is just using the name and logo to draw people in and collect their $$.
You can't always trust the ads listed on sites.

Be careful if you downloaded the latest version of AnyDVD and use it with shrink. You get a major failure as you get ready to encode. AnyDVD just sent me an update so I will let you know.

If this helps...i use Nero 7 and DVD Shrink very few problems and if any read errors or fails to read ect,use DVD Decrypter and add to DVD Shrink via the file icon, select iso cos decrypter leaves an iso file. Will still shrink the file and burn with Nero as usual.all 3 work brill together for me.nero 7 for me was the best.good luck.

Hi raedge
The error you are getting is cause of your version of Nero - when Shrink hits the burn stage version 6.6.1.4 broke that autoburn connection.
So simple fix - uninstall Nero, run the clean tool and install version 6.6.0.18.
All the links and info are on page 1 of this thread.
