get zonealarm from the zonelabs website and disable the windows firewall; its useless anyway. The windows firewall is actually only half a firewall and not secure at all it was a total waste of time putting it into the SP2 update.
I use Zonealarm and its fine with emule and emule plus.
By the way marcring, which ISP are you using if you don't mind me asking?
Hmmm!

Hi. I have just installed eMule Plus. When i started to use it i got the same thing "lowid". I have tried to follow your thread to make the changes to the Firewall and Router etc. There must be some differences from the one that you discribe, ie when i open the Preferences/Connections, it shows Client Port as... TCP 31464 & UDC 31473. Plus i can't find a test ports button anywhere. So i opened those port in the Firewall and Router, but made no difference, still got lowid. Should i have changed it all to 4660 and 4670, including in the Client Port? Or could i have done something wrong?

Gamer2478 somewhere in this forum a couple or so pages back someone did confirm they can get HIGH ID on a wireless router. however, i believe the router was a linksys brand but that shouldn't matter. check to see what kind of connection you are recieving on the computer with wireless NIC to the router. if you are not getting full connectivity you may want to buy an AP and put it between your pc and router to get the highst connectivity possible. if you are not getting 100% connectivity then that could be a problem with lowid. Also, have you checked out the instructions i posted on 9. December 2005 @ 09:56? i would give them a try. you need to follow them exactly as posted. the problem you may find is the instructions are for a linksys router but again that shouldn't matter since all or most home routers are basically the same.
Try the posted instructions and see what happens before you start buying hardware. but remember your wireless connection to the PC probably needs to be the highest possible especially since you are limited up to 54Mbps anyway. unless, of course, you have the newer G+ router and NIC that pushes up to 110Mbps.

I see you are using Emule Plus. i have not tested emule plus yet but one thing that I noticed is the TCP and UDC<--UDC??. Is UDC something new? Or, should it be UDP? You listed them with 5 numbers. Can someone thats using emule plus confirm thats correct? Normally, it should only have 4 characters. A Typical router only has space for 4 characters in Port Forwardng (at least I think it does) - I'm not at home as i'm writing this so I cannot confirm. I've not seen ports over 4 characters.
The ports for emule are: TCP Port 4660 and UDP Port 4670.
hmmm. maybe i should run emule plus to educate myself??

Hi Punisher1 I have Emule Plus 1.1g and run through a WRT54GS linksys router, the linksys has room for 5 numbers; I use 5 numbers to port forward the ports for Call of Duty 2 (superb game) see example below:
I've never heard of UDC so UDC is a typo, should be UDP.
There isn't much difference between Emule and Emule Plus not cosmetically anyway, maybe different underneath.

hey, darkan9el thanks for educating me. I've been using a 5 year old linksys router and figured it was time to buy a new one since i've been hanging playing online games. My older router may not allow for 5 characters and i'm not fully familiarized with my new router just yet.I just bought a brand new linksys WRT54G version 5 this past weekend on sale at circuit city for only $30.00. no rebates or anything - $30.00 retail (i'm sure their making room for newer routers. yeah, i was shocked at the price my friend with me at the time bought one too.
I agree COD and COD2 are superb games. but my favorite is BF2 (online of course).
thanks for the heads-up.

Hi yes that should have read UDP. I am new to this and not very technical, so what i'm saying is that when i went into the eMule Plus Preferences for the first,it was already showing in the "Show Client Port" TCP 31464 & UDP 31473. So i have just assumed that those are the figures i should use when opening ports. Is that right or wrong? And does anyone know where i could go to find out how to set it up and use it properly?

i believe you can use the same ports for emule plus that we use in emule (the original emule).
TCP Port 4660 and UDP Port 4670.
darkan9el can you or someone thats using emule plus confirm this. i will work on this later and install emule plus on my computer with my new WRT54G Router.

Hi punisher1, yes you can use those ports they are the ports it uses on install, I've found most people get along fine with emule plus and the default ports.
bluesoon which router and firewall do you have?
Punisher1: Got curious so I've just bought BF2 on ebay £5.00 inc P&P.
Me and the lads are just waiting for Ghost Recon 3 to come out.

nice. been playing BF2 (for PC) for about 3 months and almost addicted to it. Great game and tons of fun. can fly jets, helicopters, drive tanks, apc's, Hummers and more. you have option of what kind of soldier to play and weapons vary too. if you play on ranked servers you earn points and can get promoted and get unlocks to new weapons. plus, if you have a mic you can VOIP with friends on same squad if you choose.

bluesoon is it possible to buy a different router like a Linksys, DLink or Netgear? These are more common and easier to setup.
I found a review on your router:
the review was overall not good due its difficulty to configure. it doesn't mean its not a good router just difficult to configure especially if your not familiar with network technology.
if you don't have the ports forwarded properly you will not get a high id. part of port forwarding is configuring your router properly.
the SunBelt Kerio Personal FireWall sounds like a 3rd party firewall. that could also be a problem. you could (for test purposes only) turn off that firewall (after you have properly setup your router's port traffic first) and see if you get high id. when you get high id then turn firewall back on and see what happens. if you turn back on and get lowid then you need to properly configure the SunBelt Kerio Personal FireWall to allow traffic to pass on the TCP/UDP ports. Most likey the firewall will block unlsess configured. hope this helps.

Hi. I don't have any problems with the router, I have been able to config everything on it so far. Before this I used Ares and BearShare, managing to config the ports for both of them, I'm just not used to eMule Plus and don't know how to set it up and which ports to open etc.

bluesoon here is my suggestion. try these instructions. follow them exactly no matter what. As far as to what ports to use sometimes the emule default ports will work. however, for some the default ports do not work. If the emule plus default ports to not work i would use the ports specified in the instructions below.
i've never had good luck with emule default ports. i changed the TCP/UDP ports and have success ever since. here are step-by-step instructions i've come up with that works for me everytime and others as well. i would try at least on one of your computers preferrebly your LAN PC to rule-out wireless issues. let me know.
Here are the instructions
NOTE: If you are NOT using a router this may not work. I recommend using a router if nothing else as an extra layer of firewall protection.
This is a lengthy process. You may want to PRINT THESE INSTRUCTOINS
1. Open emule and click the Options button on the Toolbar.
2. Click Connection
3. Change the TCP default Port to 4660.
4. Change the UDP default Port to 4670.
5. Click Apply.
6. Click the Test Ports Button. A window will open and display both ports tested successfully. But, if they don?t work it may only be because you have not fully configured everything yet.
7. Click the button that says Open these ports on internal WinXP Firewall. Wait for the confirmation window that will pop up and then click OK.
8. Click OK at the bottom.
9. Close eMule.
This step adds Networking Services to WinXP.
1. Go to the Control Panel
2. Click on Add/Remove Programs
3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components
4. Scroll down and click on Networking Services
5. Click the Details button
6. Check the box for: Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client (this option may already be checked).
7. Check the box for: UPnP User Interface
8. Click OK then click Next***Note***You may be required to provide your Windows XP CD.
9. Click Finish.
10. Close the Add/Remove and Control Panel Windows.
If you are running Windows XP SP2 you need to do the following. If you are not running SP2 then you can skip this next step.
1. Go to the Control Panel
2. Click Windows Firewall
3. Click the Exceptions tab
4. Click the Add Programs button, Scroll down and select Emule. ***If emule is not listed then browse to: C:\Program Files\emule\emule.exe and select emule.exe.
5. Click OK
6. Click Add Port. For the name put Emule TCP and enter the Port 4660. Make sure TCP is selected.
7. Click Add Port. For the name put Emule UDP and enter the Port 4670. Make sure UDP is selected.
8. Now click on the Advanced Tab (next to the Exceptions tab).
9. Under the section: Network Connection Settings, Click the Settings button.
10. Check the list to see if you have two entries for eMule TCP and/or UDP if they are not listed then proceed to step 11. Remember, only do this step if neither TCP or UDP entries are in the list. If there are two entries in the list click the TCP option and edit it. Enter either the name or the IP Address of your computer. (If you are using more than one computer on your router you may want to use the name of your computer because your IP Addresses could change between other PC?s on your network during reboots).
For the TCP option make sure Port 4660 is entered for both internal and external.
Now Click the UDP option and edit it. Enter the same info you entered for your TCP (computer name or IP Address) and ensure Port 4670 is entered for both internal and external. Skip to step 20.
Start here only if the two emule ports are not in the list.
11. Click the Add button (only do this step if there are no TCP or UDP entries in the list).
12. In the Description of Service enter: emule TCP Ports
13. On the next line enter either the name of your computer or your IP Address (If you are using more than one computer on your router you may want to use the name of your computer because your IP Addresses could change between the other PC?s on your network during reboots).
14. For both Ports (internal and external) entries use 4660, make sure TCP is selected
15. Click OK
16. Click the Add button again
17. In the Description of Service enter: emule UDP Ports
18. On the next line enter either the name of your computer or your IP Address
19. For both Ports (internal and external) entries use 4670, make sure UDP is selected
20. Click the OK buttons to exit out
21. Close out of the Control Panel
This step is only if you are using a Router of somekind.
I have successfulley tested this using Linksys routers. I have not tried this on any other brand router. If you are using a router, other than a Linksys router, I recommend you do this next step anyway. Most routers are similiar in Port Forwarding.
1. Go to a command prompt and type: IPCONFIG write down or note your IP Address.
2. Login to your router
3. If Linksys click on the Advanced tab
4. Next click on the Forwarding tab
5. Enter the following settings:
TCP 4660 To 4660 TCP 192.168.1.XXX (your IP Address) Enable(checkbox)
UDP 4670 To 4670 UDP 192.168.1.XXX (your IP Address) Enable(checkbox)
If you have more than one computer on your network you can repeat step 5 and enter a second IP address. Here is an example how your router could look if you have more than on computer on your router. This way if your computer?s IP Address changed from .100 to .101 on the next reboot it would not matter because you have both IP's configured in the router.
TCP 4660 TO 4660 TCP 192.168.1.100
UDP 4670 TO 4670 UDP 192.168.1.100
TCP 4660 TO 4660 TCP 192.168.1.101
UDP 4670 TO 4670 TCP 192.168.1.101
6. Click the Apply button
7. Logout of your router.
After this is complete Windows XP should automatically install a network Gateway in your Network Connections configuration. This may require a reboot to start the Network Connections configurations
That?s It your done. I recommend you reboot especially if you still are getting a LOWID.
Open emule and see if you can connect at HighID.
If you still do not connect it may be because you are using a different router. Remember, I?m using a Linksys router but, again, the settings are basically the same.
If after the reboot and still a LOWID i suggest going back through the instructions to ensure you didn't miss or enter something incorrectly such as a typo in the Port settings.
Despite what others say regarding my fix, remember, not all systems are the same. You have to find what works for your system. It works for me and for other?s I?ve helped.
Sorry, if this was not a help.
***Important: No matter what you do NEVER compromise the security of your system. I would NEVER recommend turning off your Firewall(s) to get a HighID for long term use. One exception to turning off a Firewall would be to do a simple test to see if a Firewall is causing the problem. Turn the Firewall back ON as soon as you run your test. If a Firewall is the problem you need to configure Ports to allow access through the Firewall.
Hope this helps.
Let me know if I you have any questions and feedback is welcome.

I need some help please. I'm totally new to this thing and would like to know and learn more about emule.
I have D-Link 624+ router, win xp sp2. I just installed emule 0.47a version into my comp.
When i have emule up and running it always gives me "a network cable unplugged" and i have changed the settings according to what www.portforward.com suggested and still not working. I have turned off the firewall setting from Windows but it says the KAD is firewalled.
Also when i select a specific server to connect to it gave me message saying i have " lowid and i need to check my network setting".
Can anybody help me please.
Thank you ....awaiting reply from all the GURUs out there....

punisher1, just in case you're interseted, most current firewalls do have 65,535 ports, standard, all of which should be usable with Linksys (i've tried port forwarding on the upper ports before). you DID say that your Linksys was an older version tho' (5 years is like a senior citizen in PC years ;) ), so maybe older ones don't support 5-digits?
anywayz, just wanted to pass this on to any interested parties:
i have a Linksys router, and it has served me well for about a year or 2 now, and since then, i've set up several routers (Linksys) for friends and acquaintances, learning more about "routing" each time. however, recently, i've had more trouble setting them up than usual, even on newer systems... not only that, but this LAST one i set up, i had to call Tech Support (which is in India or somewhere), due to being TOTALLY UNABLE to logon to the router (192.168.1.1), even when directly connected to it from the PC, and with "auto detect" settings, even being unable to "ping" it. as for the "Easy Install" disc, it was TOTALLY useless (the percent (%) bar would get to 99%, freeze, and when it finally got to 100, the install program would crash). upon calling tech support, i was prompted to "reset" the router by holding the button on the back for 15 seconds, then unplugging and re-plugging it in. this has worked on other LS routers i've installed, but not this one. so i was told a "hard reset" could be done by holding it for 30 secs. instead. it worked for about a day or so before it was doing the same thing again, with me unable to login to the setup menu. so tech support said that the router was simply "faulty" and to exchange it at the store. so i did, and had the same old problems arise. 3 more calls got me 3 more stories, each time adding more seconds to the "hard reset" until finally the person said for me to try the "2 minute hard reset". this had worked so far, as i was able to login, after which i was prompted to update the firmware. i then setup the router (and wireless) and was able to finish the job. afterwards i had a "dialogue" with the current Tech person, who promptly said that "the WRT54G version 5 Router has been known to have issues with SOME systems" and to "just get a version 4" which they were unable to direct me to where i might purchase one. when asked about if they were going to recall the v.5 routers, she said calmly "no" that they had no present plans to do that. 3 days later when it went out again, and i had to do another "2min. reset". we decided to try a different router. i am setting it up later today.
now, i personally (like darkan9el) have a WRT54GS (with "Speed Booster"), and it works like clockwork, even without firmware upgrades. but if anyone has problems with your Linksys Router (ver. 5), you may need to trade it in to get a different model (or brand)...

also, FYI, about three weeks ago i updgraded to a linksys WRT54G Router (NOT with speed booster) i don't use the wireless much so cheaper was better. i'm no longer using my older router.
it is a ver.5 and so far it has been running fine. i even configured emule running HIGHID too.

yeah, it was kinda weird, first we tried installing on the guys old Win98 PC, and when that didn't work we tried it on his brand new Dell Setup. neither worked of course, but i did learn something else new... WinXP has something called "Wireless Zero Configuration", which occasionally interferes with network adapter setup software, because it tries to take over the process mid-swing. apparently this causes additional issues with network cards when multiple wireless networks are detected, and if your SSID is not being transmitted, but the other(s) are. you can learn more about this at http://forums.techguy.org/t301287.html, and also at http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/webmaster/article.php/3585806 and http://arstechnica.com/guides/askars/wifi-drop.ars . at least one of these sites tells how to disable WZC in Windows to test if this is the problem. hope this helps somebody :)

Hi all, I'm hoping someone here can help me because all this is driving me mad. I've read nearly everything on here and still I have a Low ID. I'll say everything I've done and if anyone can help that would be great.
Firstly, I live in the UK, I have 8mb broadband through Bulldog and an 'Actiontec 54Mbps Wireless DSL Gateway'. I don't have a static IP.
I've found my default gateway through command/ipconfig and it is 192.168.0.1 when typing into IE I get to the actiontec page with all the settings etc...then i go to advanced setup and port forwarding. I don't have anywhere to specify which program I am editing just a general page with IP port range, Protocol and IP address. i've tried adding 4660 to 4712 and added my IP address which according to ipconfig is 192.168.0.6 When clicking on Advanced port forwarding I get options for remote ip port range as well. I've tried various things. After all this I go to emule and still get low ID. The Kad network always says 'firewalled'. I turned off XP firewall and that didn't help. I went to firewall on the actiontec page and it has 4 options, high, medium, low, basic. I've tried them but still no luck.
Any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

well, i don't know much about Actiontec Routers, let alone DSL modems, but i'll give what little advice i have. first of all, you mentioned it being a "Wireless" gateway. if YOU are hooked up wirelessly, you might test it wired first, to rule that out.
you said you added 4660 to 4712 in port forwarding. be sure you have the right ports by checking your eMule settings, and be sure you have them listed on the Gateway as TCP or UDP, respectively. this may seem obvious, but it's a detail i've occasionally overlooked.
your Gateway/Router comes with a firewall, so you should be able to leave Windows' off. it only protects "one-way" anyways. you'd be advised to leave your gateway's on High or Medium, though; port forwarding bypasses a Router's firewall by design.
oh, and is your router model: GT701-WG ? if so the manual is located at http://www.actiontec.com/support/broadband/gt701-wg.pdf if anyone is interested. for GT704-WG, just change the URL to "/gt704-wg.pdf" . you might go over the "Advanced Setup" section, if you haven't already, and consider upgrading the firmware.
that's all i can think of for now :)
