192.168.0.99 is most likely the Local IP of your <PC when connected to the> actiontec modem. when you have a modem AND a router, you need to set up port forwarding in the router AND the modem. your modem's manual should have info on how to port forward. if you can't locate your manual, you can try searching google for "Actiontec GT701 manual".

there was another guy on this thread with the same problem you seem to be having. some of his posts might help you, too.

This is why i bought a 3-in-1. Trouble is it Broke. Back to the USB modem for now, <shudder>. Those things really are *profanes extensively* from hell. I can never go a few months without them stopping working. Current scenario is such that one is attempting to uninstall, stops with an error, then because the uninstall was interrupt it, you can't try again because a dll is missing and you can't reinstall because it's already installed, so it's either regedit or a reinstall, the latter meaning activating windows again. That'll be fun from an OEM no backup copy disc.

Thanks for all the inputs, guys.
The thing is, I have done configuring the port forwarding for both modem and router. Still not working. Can you guys tell me how I can find the other person's posts with similar issues like mine? Thank you in advance.

i do believe that the posts i was referencing start on page 15 with posts by "woop", but there may be others in here as well (i came in about halfway through this thread). if anyone knows of other posts that may apply, be my guest to mention them :)

anyways, meantime, if you would, ylatseng, try this if you get a chance, and see if it works:

you mentioned that before you connected the router you were getting Hi ID, so there must be some small setting that is being missed. i've seen other people successfully connected with Hi ID using a D-Link router, so there must be an obscure setting somewhere, if you've followed punisher1's checklist (he's pretty thorough).
you also mentioned that before connecting the router, your IP Address was 192.168.0.99, and afterwards it was 192.168.0.100. try giving (if you haven't already) your router a Static IP of 192.168.0.99 (as long as your Actiontec is set up the same as before the router), and your PC a static IP of 192.168.0.100 . in other words, set up your Actiontec modem for DHCP, and turn DHCP OFF in your router. then set up port forwarding accordingly in your modem and router. another thing is, be sure to check that UPnP (and "Internet Gateway and Device Discovery") is installed (in "Add/Remove Windows Components"). i thought mine was when indeed it wasn't!

i'm not too familiar with Wireless configurations yet, so if anyone knows of any common (or uncommon) pitfalls, please post them here. you ARE using wireless to connect to the router, correct? if so, could you try connecting to the router DIRECTLY instead as a test? if you get Hi ID when directly connected, that means it's your wireless settings that're to blame.

I don't want to concern you but the reason my D-Link router is going to be sent back is that port forwarding doesn't work any more. It's improbable but possible that you may have the same problem.

Punisher1,

I was having LOWID problems with emule and so I did all your steps and nothing happened. I'm on a wireless network, but I don't know if that has to do with anything. But, being the stubborn guy I am {with computers that is ;)} I had to make it work.

So what I did that made your steps work, is I went into NETWORK CONNECTIONS, double-clicked on the newly created internet gateway (STEP 2), clicked PROPERTIES, SETTINGS, then added the two ports like you would do with the Windows Firewall.

Once I did this and resarted eMule, I had instant High ID. So, thanks for the steps punisher1 and I hope this helps someone else.

Guess what? I decided to plug my router back in, and low and behold back to the old lowId problem. All the ports forwarded correctly, restarted both emule and the router and still lowID. How can I tell if ports are actually being forwarded?

Its a bit dodgy turning XP Firewall off.
Turn it back on then go to Security Centre in Control Panel, click Firewall then the Exception tab, in the dialog box browse to E-Mule then click the box.
So now you are using the firewall but allowing e-mule through.

XP firewall is for microsofts benefit, not the end user, it is; in actuality, only half a firewall and a pretty poorly designed one at that.

The best software firewall I have used; and stilling using to date, is Zonealarm. I have no problems downloading, no low-id, its as if the firewall wasn't there, but of course it is.

I have 2 firewalls operating, as I also have a linksys router firewall with port forwarding in place, and this setup does not cause any problems with downloading or online gaming.

Hmmm!

where is the 192.168.1.1 from? it doesn't fit my problem.
my isp provide my the dynamic ip only, if i use ipconfig to get the ip and dns addresses then fill in my tcp/ip, it wouldn't work at all!

caijs, are you sure you're using a router? this thread covers router issues when setting eMule up. 192.168.1.1 is the internet address for your router (standard). when you are connected to the internet (i.e., Internet Explorer), type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and your router's setup menu may likely come up. this is where you enter your PC's details. and while we're at it, in TCP/IP settings, your PC's IP address should be 192.168.1.100 (usually) when you're using a router. otherwise, you should leave it set to dynamic, for non-router setup with eMule.

if you ARE using a router, you should check out punisher1's walkthrough on page 17. it's helped more than a few people. feel free to ask if you still have issues figuring it out :)

Hi Sammorris,

Get a linksys WRT54GS if you're running cable, if its ADSL get the Linksys WAG354G-UK both excellent routers. With the WAG354G-UK the modem is built in; my mate has one running and runs emule-plus no trouble; his ISP is Eclipse (UK.) I have the WRT54GS, as I have cable and also run Emule-Plus with no problems.

caijs
Send us the IPconfig /all info so we can see what your set up is.

Best regards Lee

I think D-Link were offering to replace it free (the DSL-G604T) and to be honest I can't really afford to replace it right now...

try this it will help you set up portforwarding. These links are for emule but emule and emule plus are almost identical so it will work for both.

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/... this is for the standard DI-604

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/... this is for the DI-604v2

ivan1617 use the links from darkan9el and after you have become familiar with your D-Link router i might suggest you try the instructions i posted on 9. December 2005 @ 09:56 .

I realize i'm using a linksys router but the settings are basically the same. follow them exactly has i have posted and you should see positive results.

First Post - have been using emule for years at highID - all of a sudden (no computer or any equipment was changed - and not using a router) I had been always connected at HighID and was over night - decided to reboot in the morning and it has been LowID ever since and nothing helps. I clicked on the "test ports" and got the big red X could not communicate with 4662. I found this forum and used each step that punisher1 had suggested on page 17 (changing ports to 4660/4670 etc.) - and because of his suggestions/setting steps, this time when I clicked on "test ports" I get the 2 green Xs with the Green Happy emuling message but still LowID. Any suggestions - the cable company has been "upgrading" the system certain late nights and I am not sure if the change in my ID was after one of those upgrades. Is it possible they have done something to limit/change my connectivity for emule because I know I have not changed anything. Thanks!

Marcring, it is possible your isp can limit port traffic. i think you can call them and ask.
you say your not using a router? are you using any type of firewall (not including WinXP SP2? if you are using a 3rd party firewall and an update was added and then you reboot it might have taken affect after the reboot. if you are not using any 3rd party firewall i might suggest investing in a router. routers usually have some kind of NAT firewall.

what punisher1 said is right, you should definitely have some sort of firewall, especially when dealing with "always on" hi-speed internet.

as for blocking eMule traffic, ISPs don't even need to block ports to hinder you, as i learned. they can limit your speed for 1 program based on the type of traffic (which works for p2p AND BitTorrent), while at the same time, your Internet Explorer, or whatever, is unaffected, even at the same time! this is a dastardly trick for someone offering "hi-speed" to pull, to which the only solution is finding another provider. but you should definitely ASK your ISP first to confirm that's what's going on. and don't use the word "block". my ISP swore up and down they don't "block" traffic to specific programs until i mentioned eMule, then they admitted that they DO limit speeds on certain traffic due to "bandwidth stress". hey, why do they think i went to broadband in the first place >:P

anywayz, i hope you can get things up and rolling again. and remember, expect the worst and hope for the best :)

No to the third party firewall - just XP SP2 - and within XPs I made the settings you suggested because there were none at all in the exceptions for emule. At least I did finally get the green Xs for the ports but alas only lowID. I am leaning toward cable doing something - because it was so quick a change. Thanks for your help.
