try using BitTornado for BT links. my ISP limits BitTorrent and eMule traffic, but i was still able to get thru with BitTornado.
reformatting might help, but if you do, be sure you back up the important, irreplacable files and gamesaves, etc. i personally reformat once a year (for various reasons).
sammorris, what i meant was, in what way does Kazaa have viruses? in the files that people share, or in the Kazaa executable file itself or in programs that install with it, or what? i run an updated version of Norton AV, and it never caught any suspicious activity.

Yeah, I like that too. The viruses come from the users with Kazaa Lite, but various kinds of spyware and malware are in the standard Kazaa release. There was even a trojan in the exe once.

"Kazaa Lite is a clean version of Kazaa Media Desktop. It contains absolutely no spyware, adware or other unwanted software."
(from "http://www.zeropaid.com/kazaalite/")
ironically the first 10 or so posts there say they found spy- & adware, and the later ones say it's ok. maybe newer versions don't have the spyware and such. hmm...
anywayz, i'm glad i no longer use it!

I wouldn't trust kaaza if I was you, if they play spware games do you really think they would release a non spyware version? it doesn't make sense; Kaaza reformed I don't think so.
I might try that BitTornado sounds interesting especially the basic bit lol!
Hmmm!

Bit Tornado is by appearance identical to the original client, except with a status colour bubble and the ability to scroll on the details list of files. I like it, although having some decimal places on the speed would be nice.

does anyone know which are the files in emule that should be backed up and copied to a new version of emule in order to keep your "status" or "credit" in emule when changing versions?

I installed BitTornado, but it won't work. Besides the fact that when I try to download something I get "problem connecting to tracker," I also can't find the place where I choose which files on my computer I want to share, etc. It's completely different than emule, and there's no option ot open the client unless there's a torrent file you wish to download (is it possible to pause, shut down, and resume the download?).
Is Azureus that bad? I used it once and it was ok, but my internet connection was slow. Azureus is a java client, which means it's not as fast as other clients...

Azureus was OK, but it was indeed a little slow and I had the problem of once losing a download while using it. But torrent client is easy to use, just open the file you opened before and it continues where it left off. Don't be put off by the X or the cancel button, they only stop the download, not cancel it. TO pause the downloads, just click the pause button. Problems connecting to the tracker are ususally specific with certain torrent files and a large number of torrent files will fail to open (except on demonoid because they all use the same tracker). Just try a different file. The onyl exception is if it says "client banned" in which case use a different program (if you have to) or just find an alternatve .torrent.

I installed Azureus, and it download the same file that the BitTorando wouldn't download. The problem I get using Azureus is "problem with the distributed database's UDP port mapping."
It seems to me that I have the same issues with both emule and bittorent clients- for some reason they feel they're being blocked by something (probably the router). Right now, using Azureus, I can very low speeds, and the tracker doesn't let me share any of my files, claiming the tracker is not configured...

I enabled UPNP, but I don't know what you mean by using the currect DNS address. Is there a good online tutorial for setting up and configuring bittorent clients?

Well you can ask your ISP what it should be, normally windows is configured for a default setting.

Yes the current one, but to find out what it should be you'll need to ask your ISP

since I'm using a router, all I get (using ipconfig) is the usual subnet mask- 255.255.255.0. I don't think that's the one.
I also don't understand where in the setting of the bittorent client I am asked to fill in my DNS address...
I think emule is better!
thanks for all the help

I agree with you encoder, I tried the bittornado and find EmulePlus a much better program, there's not much I can't find or download with it and no need to open all these sites with spyware, ads, and cookies. with some of the sites used my firewalls were going mad.
I also like the fact I can auto run my virus software on finished downloads.
No thanks but EmulePlus every time,
All hail the Donkey lol!

I find that Bit torrent clients generally give me faster speeds, but without question, the emule/donkey network is the biggest. If it can be made into a computer file, it'll be on edonkey somewhere. I hadn't heard of Emule plus until this conversation so I may give it a try.

Hi all,
I am new to this forum, so if I say something inappropriate, please forigve me.
I have an Actiontec GT701 modem and a D-Link DI-624 router. I need DI-624 for wireless enhance reason. Without this router, I got high ID, but after I added this router, I got lowid. I have disabled all the firewalls just to test things out, still no luck. I also turned on DI-624 port forwarding as well as GT701 port forwarding without any luck.
I did notice that I used DHCP, and when I used Actiontec without the router, my ip address was 192.168.0.99. When I connected DI-624 router behind Actiontec GT701, my ip address became 192.168.0.100. So that means, whenever I tried to use static ip, it won't work because of the address difference. Can someone please help me out here? I have tried so many ways and read all your postings here but didn't find the right solution. Please help!

the 192.168.0.99 address is your address from your isp.
routers (usually by default) run DHCP unless you configure otherwise.
every brand router has their IP range like yours: 192.168.0.100.
actually, you can use a static ip to configure emule and your port forwarding but its not necessary. If you have more than one computer on your network then static would be ideal because if more than one pc your IP addresses can swap between computers during reboots or router resets. Even if you have more than one computer on your network you can still use DHCP. All you would do is Port Foward for both computres: 192.168.0.100 & 192.168.0.101 etc.
I highly recommend you use your router mainly because it should have a firewall built into it. and, it masks your ip address of your computer(s).
Did you read my instructions on page 17, 9 December 2005 @9:56?
I post these instructions from time to time. they have been able to fix other member's emule lowid problems as well as mine. you should check it out.
I have heard of third party software firewalls causing lowid issues. are you running zone alarm or Norton Security? If you follow either my instructions or other member recommendations and it still not work i would un-install third party firewalls - especially Norton Security, thats a very crappy (to say the least) piece of software.
hope this helps.

thank you so much for repling so fast, punisher. I only have one computer, a pc. I need the actiontec modem to get on internet, and the D-Link router is just for extended wireless purposes. I have to connect both. I don't have zone alarm or norton security. I even turned off my XP firewall. Still not working.
I am just wondering if different ip addresses would cause the problem, say, these two devices not able to talk to each other or something.

192.168.0.99 won't be the address from the service provider, it's local (192.168 means local) so it's something to do with the setup of the router and the modem.
