ok, heres my suggestion, i just went through a similar ordeal, for your HDD to have the correct and full c and e drive files i had to use ndure downloaded from xbins, in ndure there is an optional version of evox, it is found in the ndts file of ndure, you can FTP this file to your e drive, on your xbox with you original drive open the default.xbe in the ndts folder, this will show all the files that are not shown on the ordinary version, then copy all the c and e drive files to a place where you can retreive them shortly, next prep the eeprom, on your original hard drive look up your system info, copy your hdd key, mac address, serial number, if you find your online key and wish to use it and your cofounder copy them also, however i didnt use either, download live info from xbins, i think its in eeprom tools, next unlock your new hdd, i found when it went to an error screen the only way i could get the xbox to boot was use an original xbox game and let it load (unlock the hdd) then disconnect and hot swap to your pc, NOTE: have the hdm disc in your pc with the eeprom in the eeprom folder, if you dont have this there it wont lock or unlock, you can find an eeprom in the ndure folder, also i dont know if it helped but i put shadowc from ndure onto my c-drive via FTP, so you should be able to turn on your xbox and your pc at the same time let both load but the pc has to have the hdm disc in it, antime after the xbox loads, disconnect the ide cable, but keep the power on and swap to your pc load option 3 from hdm, then choose unlockhd, power off the pc and connect your hdd back to your pc, connect it like a normal hdd to your pc, boot it up and open live info, find your hdd on there if it is your slave it will be device 1, fill the info in the best you can, you will need to find ur eeprom and use it and save the new info over it copy the eeprom to your hdm folder in the eeprom folder, copy all of your c and e drive files to hdm, i put shadowc c on my c drive(just enough space) like i said i dont know if it helped or not, after averything is in your hdm folder burn it, double check that all the file are right i wasted thirty discs right here, i found that you could add to the previous hdm the files were there but registered as 0kb, so each time i burnt a disc i created a new hdm from scratch each time, after it is burnt, power off your pc with the hdm disc in, power on your pc, NOTE: if your drive is locked you will have to boot it with an xbox game and hotswap to your pc, in hdm load option 1, if you have stuff on there already, wipe it in hdm, then build c drive(not sure what option it is) and also e drive, f and g will not be necessary for this hdd, after all loaded power off and reeboot, in hdm goto option 3 lock/unlock, if your hard drive is locked again you will need to unlock with the xbox again, when in hdm option 3 choose lock hdd, then try it in your xbox, if that doesnt work go back to option 3 and unlockhd and try in your xbox, all the tutorials tell you to lock your hhd or it wont work on your xbox, strangley enough my 250gb hdd is working now in my xbox UNLOCKED, dont know why but she works great, so try either, if you cant boot your xbox with a xbox disc, im not sure if it will work, but if the drive has the xbox files already just try unlocking and locking each in your xbox it might just have the files already, hopefully this helps, good luck and happy modding

robman let me know how you made out, if you need to unlock it just use option 3 from hdm and unlock, as long as the eeprom is there

hello again, you can get a eeprom file from config magic/data, it is in there, use the eeprom.bin file, it should be 256k, but don't use the v1.0 or v1.1 bin file. with the eeprom in place you should be able to lock and unlock your hdd with hdm, by the way could you boot your xbox with a original disc???

Hey guys... just bought myself a 200GB hard drive to use with my softmodded Xbox. I got my eeprom off my xbox, put it in the correct folder using XboxHDM, built the iso file, and burnt to a DVD. I took everything off my IDE channels, put the new hard drive on the primary master cable, put the dvd drive on a seperate channel, booted it up and it will not work. It gets me to the screen where you hit 1 to go to the VGA tools, but after that, when i type in xboxhd, it says there is no drive found on the primary master dev/a or some such. I know 100% i have this on the correct IDE channel, and it'll show up in my RAID bios screen(i am wondering if the fact that I have 2 IDE and 2 RAID channels may be the culprit here) is there something else I'm overlooking? I read through much of the thread but I couldn't figure out what i was doing wrong. i dont have another computer here at the apartment to try this out with other than my 2 laptops and obviously that isn't going to help me much.

are there any alternative ways or programs to format the HD?

help :(

with the xboxhdm DVD you get you may find that its the pc not copying the files back, FTP the originals from your back up's.

also for some unknown reason, the DVD xboxhdm makes will not work on some pc's, I got 5 and I can only use one to make an xbox hard drive, try redoing it on a differant pc set up

Here's a few suggestions, try switching the HD to cable select or try disabling the RAID (option in BIOS and just use the main ide channels

I tried it using both cable select and master, and I tried using both the RAID and main IDE channels. No configuration I tried worked out.

Here's a few additional things I've found to try:

-Disable Auto Detection for the Primairy Master HD (also explained as setting IDE0/HDA to ?NONE?)
-Disable S.M.A.R.T. monitoring
-Unplug all USB devices (use a PS/2 connector for your keyboard)
-Make sure all networking cards have a connection (xboxhdm hangs on unplugged network cables)
-Remove any add-on cards if all the above doesn?t help

If all else fails, contact the developer(s) of XboxHDM and see what they have to say, they may be able to offer a suggestion I cannot.

There's an official XboxHDM thread on xbox-scene that may offer further advice or help.

I found that when I was going to unlock my new hdd, I had to boot my pc with just the dvd rom connected, until it had started to load the program, then connect my hard drive (had power connected but not the ide), then type option 1 or 3 or whatever, but that was because it was telling me my drive was frozen, anybody having this problem??

I still cannot get it to work. I disabled auto-detect, my keyboard is not USB to begin with, I have a feeling the problem is the IDE/RAID channels on my motherboard. I am going to take the HD to my mom's house on one of my days off and see if it'll work in her computer. Hopefully it does.

Just out of curiosity though, has anyone formatted a HD through FTP like in this article? does it work?

I have this hdd

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822148139

I have went through this process twice. Both times I end up with error 6. I'v overcame the security lock, I'v locked and unlocked the hdd. So i know it will lock.

the first time I got my eeprom through config magic. The second time I got the eeprom from UDATA, but no luck. Xbox can't unlock the drive. What can I do to fix this? I have about 5 hours, or more invested in reading, but can't seem to figure it out. I really believe my problem is with the eeprom, but can't seem to find the right one

It boots up to evox with the retail hdd. It's softmodded with shademans. I can FTP with smart and burn image. No problem locking with xboxhdm, but still error 6.

I'm doing this for a friend for free. I like a good challange but damn, this Is almost too much.

I'm gonna try one more time with config and rename "EEPROMBackup.bin" to "eeprom.bin", while I wait for a reply. this is gettin old quick

Thanks

Ok, I've got to the point where the drive must be locked, and I ran into issues there.

When I select option 3, Linux begins to load, then I get
"ide-default: hdi: Failed to register the driver with ide.c
Kernel panic: ide: default attach failed"

I'm not proficient with Linux, so not quite sure what it means, but I assumed it ment something had gone wrong with my IDE drive. So, I disconnected the drive, just for the hell of it, and I got the same error again.

Any help?
