no! without competition in business, no progress is ever made, as there is no incentive for R&D. the quality of the product suffers while the price skyrockets, taking the consumer for all they're worth, as they have not other choice but to buy that product or have nothing. that's the reason we had so many anti-monopoly laws here in the US come into existence back in the early 20th century. that's why Microsoft has to split into 2 companies a few years ago. they got too big. they're still too big and have a huge share of the market. haven't you noticed how expensive their products are in the fields they have total control over? or how shoddy those products are?

and that's why it's so important for the consumer to support diversity and competition in business...many haven't in recent years, and thusly the product quality and prices have been inversely proportional, with a negative result for the consumer. it blows :(

Yup very true. You know I'm starting to notice a trend. Lots of XBox 360 supporters are flaming the PS3 but PS3 supporters aren't saying much. Let's not be arrogant here. Outright flaming is a bad thing. Should be the Eleventh Commandment. PS3 will no doubt be expensive but more worth it than the XBox 360. Because of.....
- Better graphics
- More storage
- Wider variety of games
- More original games
But XBox 360 has also some advantages over PS3
- Cheaper
- XBox live
- More and better fps which is good in America but not so good in Japan where they have to sell lots of XBox 360s to become number one.

Yup. That's why XBox 360 will probably still be second to the PS3 because those things don't really excite Japanese gamers. The original XBox had the same problem. Microsoft didn't bring in enough Japanese developers and Japanese games.

Games for the PS3 and Xbox 360 will cost $59.99 new, which I saw at Gamestop.com. I actually believe that because of the new media and stuff like that.
It's Festivus for the rest of us!

Globally speaking, it's more like a "Nintendo/Microsoft VERSUS Sony"
Not "Microsoft vs. Sony"
*points to usual statistic for Xbox, PS2, & GC:
- Xbox sold only 1 million more units than Gamecube
- Sony sold over 70 million more units than both of them, respectively

NEW UPDATE---Well according to my research when Sony said they was coming out with the PS3. Sony made an announcement that it will be very high in cost around the 400.00 range. Well when Xbox360 came out it was going for $399.00. Around the same as the PS3! BUT the PS3 when it launches in the spring of 2006 it will have a retail price for only $299.99 Which makes the PS3 more affordable then the Xbox360!! Xbox 360 will ship out its largest inventory around February to March. See how they work. Pretty smart!
Actually the Xbox360 only put out a small amount of systems to stores purposely to attract news and people to the new product in turn to sell more (Just look how must news media it has already attracted) due to the fact Xbox is took a 4 billion dollar loss on there last system!

Where did that price come from? You are just speculating that. Ps3 will not be cheaper than xbox, since it has an expensive processor and bluray drive.

Sony officially hasn't said anything yet only that it will be "expensive" according to Ken Kutaragi. It does more than the XBox 360. MS doesn't have to worry about making it a router, making it connect to a PSP, connect to two HDTVs, running a brand new processor, etc. That's why Sony ripped out the router capability and is making the hard drive not essential for games. It's all to reduce cost. So I'm guessing it costs them about $500-$700 to make and they want to reduce it as much as possible.

Yeah, that's a bit more realistic than 300$.

I'm sorry if I bring you down razengan (naruto fan huh?), but read the whole article.
Quote: Stringer has not commented publicly on how much the PS3 is expected to cost, or how soon it will appear in the US after the Japanese launch in spring 2006
It was just falsely attributed statements from they guy who interviewed Stringer. This price was only his speculation. So still no proof...
Here's the whole thing:
Quote: On the day that Microsoft launched its Xbox 360, Sony it would seem tried to share the spotlight by addressing the pricing for its PlayStation 3. Sony CEO Howard Stringer has made it clear that the next-gen system will be under $400 when it debuts next year. An exact price and launch date have yet to be announced, however. [Updated w/ correction]
The FORTUNE article (as posted on CNN/Money), which we cite below, apparently contained erroneous information and falsely attributed statements to Sony CEO Howard Stringer. The FORTUNE article on CNN/Money by Peter Lewis now has the following correction attached to it:
"An earlier version of this story appeared with statements erroneously attributed to Sir Howard Stringer, CEO of Sony Corporation, regarding pricing and availability of the PS3. Stringer has not commented publicly on how much the PS3 is expected to cost, or how soon it will appear in the US after the Japanese launch in spring 2006."
