Well they just can't sell ps3 so that they lose 200$-300$ per unit, Sony doesn't have that kind of money. Microsoft has a lot more money, and they are selling xbox 360 losing 126$ per unit.

He's right. Sony's other divisions have't been doing now. A more realistic price is somewhere in the range I mentioned before which is $500-$700. It might reach $800 because of the extra things it can do that they decided they wanted to keep but I don't think so. All the problems that it has with playback of PS and PS2 games, controllers, mem cards etc and the removal of the router capability and necessity of hard drive for games makes me happier. That's because with all this less extras things will be cheaper. At first I was expecting it to be $800 but now I'm guessing $600. It might go down if they really rip out options out of it. Like the dual HDTVs. It's cool but would increase the cost.

Omg, why cant anyone get anything straight? The ps3 will cost a tad more than the 360. Mabey like 425$. 360 is 400$. Not 700$, not 600$ not 500$ not 300$ not 200$, not 700$+, not 200$-
And who would pay 700$ for a system. Dr.cool made a big point there, thats why the ps3 iss seling their system for that much.

Huh whats with all this talk about $700 systems. The ps3 will be $400-under $500 ($450 maybe?) The 360 has already been released and the core bundle is $300.
Hey where's the rasengan? all i see is a pic of that darkness thing. The PS2 was also around $400 when it first came out. The most expensive gaming system that I've seen is Sony's PSX (not the first one, it's basically a PS2 with lots of extra stuff that never made it to America and it still cost $700 if you import it now)
How did MS become two companies? Sorry I take A.P Government next year so i don't know this stuff yet.

Actually the price isn't confirmed. That was around what they first said it would be priced as but they said it's expensive and they're trying to cut costs. Meaning that if they sold it at that price they'd make too big a loss on each console. So they started removing stuff but I don't think it's helping that much. I expect above $500 unless they really go crazy taking stuff out.

I work directly with the Sony corp. and from what I am hearing is that the PS3 WILL COST $299.99 dollars. But im not going to say it will be $299.99 when it launches but that?s where it stands now. When a company releases a new console no company will make money the first year, it takes a number of years before they will make money because of the high cost of licenses the company has to purchase and the cost of production etc. The biggest cost for Sony is going to be the new Cell processor, which should cost the company $160 per chip. YES, the PS3, will play the PS2 and PS1 games! And honestly think about it who is going to pay 600 or even 700 dollars for a PS3.. well I know I would not.
How much will they lose, Arriving at $399, the PlayStation 3 would still be losing around $100 per unit, which adds up to around $1.18 billion of losses for Sony if year one sales predictions of 14 million units prove true. They are expecting a world wide launch around April 2006.
How powerful will the PS3 be: On paper, the PS3 is 2x more powerful than the Xbox 360 and 15x more powerful than the Nintendo Revolution. It has a processing capacity of 2.18 TFLOPS, which is put into context when you realize the FASTEST computers in existence can only do 36 Terraflops. It is said to be 35x more powerful than the PlayStation 2 . Sony will have an online service very comparable to Microsoft?s Xbox Live service. No, what ever those sony dudes told you, are complete idiots. You gotta do the research. The ps3 it will be more powerfull(in terms of loading and that stuff), but not 2x more powerful. And why do u say it will be 25x more powerfull than the rev.? The rev's specs havent been released. GpU wize, the 360 and the ps3 are almost the same. You know what read the las 7 posts from ps3 graphics ok? To lazy to explain. The CPU,i havnt done alote of research, but i know it cannot be 2x more powerfull than the 360.360 has more generating processing, while the ps3 has more tflop.
FOR GRAPHIC INFO about the PS3 and 360, go visit the thread on ps3 graphics. Dont read the first couple parts, because they are untrue, read the last parts. last 7-5 posts.

no, computeres gpu is as strong as the rsx or 360's ATI. Its pointless for idiots to buy a computer that is 7000$ if its gpu is weeker than the ps3's and 360's.

Ok it can't possibly be around the $300 range. Simply because the CEO said it would be expensive and the only thing they took out after he said that was a hard drive so that's $100 less. Note that this is all hypothetical. All right if the starting point was $300 BEFORE taking out the hard drive then it would not be considered expensive because that's around the normal console release price. If it was $400 it also would not be considered expensive because they already had a rough estimate on the price of the XBox 360 at that time which was about $400. Thus it had to be at leas $500 when Ken Kutaragi said it was going to be expensive. Thus after removing the hard drive it would come up to $400 minimum hypothetically. But they haven't announced a price yet. If it was all finalised then they would just say $400 and no one would mind because it would be around the same as the XBox 360 with hard drive. So logic states it has to be higher than $400. $450 would still be reasonable for them to announce immediately if that's where they got its retail price down to. So it makes sense that if they were to release it now it would probably be a minimum of $500.

Exactly. Plus think about it properly. Each XBox 360 is sold at a loss of $126 so the cost of making one is about $526 for the bundle with hard drive. And the PS3 has more functions built into it plus a next gen DVD drive. And no hard drive which despite how Microsoft sells one should be about -$50 to the price. So logically a Bluray drive not available on market would probably cost maybe $70 more than the DVD drive in the XBox 360. Then there's the double HDTV output which should be like I dunno $20 extra. Bluetooth is cheaper though so it should be like -$40. And the PS3 has a nice shiny finish so slightly more by maybe $5. Add that all up and the PS3 would possibly cost $550. But this is all guessing. And not to mention the new Core processor. That should be like $100 more so the cost by my rough badly estimated figures is $650. So if they sell it at $300 they'll lose $350 per PS3. If they sell it at $400 they'll lose $250. But if they sell at $500 they'll only lose $150. So let's agree at least that they need to seriously rip out a lot of options to afford selling it below $400.
