Ya know what the main problem was? When I used DVD Decrpyter, I didn't select ISO Read... so I couldn't get it to burn an ISO on my laptop first...
I'm just on my lunch break now and I need to get back immediately, but one of the IT guys at my work is going to make me a crossover cable so I'll be able to try doing that when I get home...
I'll let ya know how it works
Thanks

I made an ISO file... I then connected my PS2 and laptop via router... ran HDL Dump... it put the game on my hard drive... used HD Loader, saw my game there... and when I went to play it... it wouldn't load... the screen went black like it started to load, and then nothing happened...
any thoughts???

have a look here: http://list.ps2hd.com/ You need to set the game to mode 3 (you do this when you upload game from your PC to PS2). :)

Thank you...
So when I'm in HDL Dump, there was a thing at the bottom where I could Check Mode 1 Mode 2 Mode 3... and none were checked... so I should check off the box for Mode 3 you're saying???

Yep. I don't know with HDL Dump you can change the setting of the game (should be able to) or if you have to reinstall it, but it's a good idea to check that site I showed you before you install a game, it's got compatibility for most games (whether they work or not, what mode you need to use). Most games work without any modes, some need mode 1, 2 or 3, or a combination of these. In this case, you need to have Mode 3 checked to make it work :)

Thank you so much!!! I appreciate your help so much!
I checked for some other games, and it says "compatible" does that mean that I don't need to check any off?

If you already have it on your PS2's HD you can always use Select to change the modes with HDLoader itself. Although, if you're using a patched version, it won't say Mode 1, etc. It'll say what the mode actually does. The very first 3 options correspond to modes 1 through 3. In order. There's also other game specific compatibility fixes. Guide yourself with the list to choose the correct patches to use.

That's annoying... since I deleted the first one and re-installed it; learn by doing I guess. Now two more questions;
1) If I get a crossover cable, will everything work the same way as it was last night when I had two straight through cables going through a router? Will I still do everything the same way?
2) I thought someone said I could just put elf files on a usb flash drive and then I'd be able to put them on my hard drive or memory card through elf launcher? Is that true?

Question 3 (just remembered this)
Like 4 years ago... I bought Cricket 2002 off ebay... not really understanding back then that there were different PS2s and this game being a PAL game wouldn't work on my system... do you know how I would go about (or could send me a link to explain how) being able to play this game on my PS2... or do I need Swap Magic for that???

There is a PAL 2 NTSC patch for Cricket 2002. You can rip that game to ISO format using DVD Decrypter, apply the patch using PPF-O-Matic, and put it in your PS2's HD using HDL Dump. I'm not sure if the game works with HDL, but you can always give it a try. If you don't apply the patch, you'll be stuck with black and white images and a moving screen if it works, so PATCH IT before trying any testing to kill 2 birds with one stone.

The patch is there on that list. You should be able to get PPF O Matic there too, or do a google search. :)

Oh, and about the crossover cable, yes. It will work the same, if not a bit faster. But at HDL Dump speeds, you shouldn't see any difference lol
If you have ULauncherELF you can access your USB flash drive using the FileBrowser and then selecting Mass as your device. IT should show you what's on the drive. IT also works with USB enclosures and USB HDs too. Not just flash drives!

Yeah HDL dump takes a long time... is there anything that does it faster?

WinHIIP is as fast as you can get. But you need to connect the HD directly to your PC somehow. On a laptop, the only way to use it is with a USB Enclosure (they're sold for about 20 bucks or so) but the speed is well worth it. I can pull off 15MBps on my enclosure and my laptop. If you use a desktop, speeds will be much much faster.

this is where my lack of knowledge comes in... 15 MBps you said... what is HDL dump probably running at then do you think? just so I can compare?? It takes roughly an hour... how long would a USB enclosure take?

USB enclosure for me takes about 3-4 minutes for each game, depending on the game size, I think it's worth that investment if you don't have the patience :)

Yeah I'm definately thinking about getting myself a cheap HD Enclosure so I don't have to keep ripping the hard drive in and out of the computer to use Winhiip...

In reply to your questions above:
1) Crossover cable probably won't be faster, but it does mean you can get rid of that router in the way
2) LaunchELF works with ALL USB devices (it treats them as a mass storage device from memory). Hmm do you have LaunchELF or uLaunchELF? uLaunchELF is slightly better (I think it stands for unofficial LaunchELF) because it allows you to copy game saves from your PC/USB device to your memory card (well, it has better support for it anyway), but if you don't have the need for that, there's no need to change it to uLaunchELF
3) Whether you need to patch the game actually depends on your TV. Most modern TV supports NTSC/PAL signals, so if your TV supports that you are fine and don't need to fiddle with patching, unfortunately patching isn't guaranteed to work 100% of the time.
@tmfloria
You should be able to get those for what, $10~15? I know they are pretty cheap now. Just one thing to keep in mind, some of them don't support 48-bit LBA i.e. the size limit for the HDD in that case would be 127GB (or something). Most new ones should support this but just something to keep in mind, sometimes the cheapest one you find isn't gonna work for you!

By default, HDL Dump sends information at a steady 2MBps, on my side. IT takes a little over 30 minutes to send a game. If it takes about an hour on your setup, then it's sending the game at about 1MBps! If you use the HDL Dumb GUI it should show you the speed it's sending the information at. I currently send games at 7 minutes or less, being 7 minutes for a full DVD 5 disc. This using a HD USB 2.0 enclosure.
Make sure you use the latest version of HDL Dump to get the best possible speeds (I believe it's version 0.8.4)
tmfloria- As long as the enclosure is USB 2.0, for EIDE devices and has 400GB support on the front of the box, you should be fine. :)

I'm actually a bit surprised that HDL dump works at such a low transfer rate, any reasons behind this? I've used it once and after that I decided that it was quicker to put the HDD in my USB enclosure and transfer a few games when I do that - I can transfer 3-4 games in a shorter time than it takes to transfer via ethernet! ><
