I would just suggest checking out Froogle.com or if you're lucky like me and can find a good deal locally.. I bought a 200gb Maxtor for $50 (After E Rebate ) at Staples.... it was $100 before rebate but I got the $ within 2 or 3 weeks of sending it in (Via the internet)

Thanx you guys, I was wondering whether I should go with an HD or only buying swapmagic and burning games and keeping them. . . Its just that I am short on cash

In the long run, HDD is better because it's faster and it doesn't use the laser, but just my personal preference.

The V12 is a lot more expensive because had to get HD Combo installed, but the V9... about $100 on top of the console, which is relatively cheap when you compare to cost of games

Does anyone know what it means with Winhiip if it says "an invalid argument was encountered." I tried burning the game on my laptop first then burning it to the hard drive... and it work (MLB 06) but when I go to play games... it loads up, but then freezes on that screen...
any thoughts?

You need mode 3 for the game. Er can you give a bit more description on when you encountered that error? (what you did to get that error?)

The game should work with mode 3... have you tried that?
Can't help you on the error message... sounds like a coding issue to me, and I couldn't find any info on that on the web either

You cannot select what mode until you go to do the burning though; so when you first "add files" that message comes up immediately. As for having burnt the game to my laptop first then to the HD, I had it on Mode 3... and I can do everything in the game EXCEPT play games... I can create players, change rosters, start a career or a franchise, simulate games... but when I go to play a game... no good.

Hmm that's interesting... couple of things I can think of:
1) Bad image file
2) Compatibility issue
Now unfortunately I don't own this game, I cannot give you definite answers as to whether this game works or not, but according to http://list.ps2hd.com/ it should work fine with mode 3 (which eliminates the second thing on the list), so I'm going to go with the "bad image file" guess. Have you tried ripping the game again?

Doesn't make much sense, I just re-did the exact same thing I did before... cleaned the disc off a bit though...
bizarre

YEah. Same thing hapened tome with LCS. It would lock up about 4 or 5 minutes in game. I thought it was with modes, tried all that, still locked up. So I had to recopy it to the hard drive again and now it runs like a charm. It's a weird normal thing lol

Sometimes when you rip an image file from a disc it doesn't work properly because it wasn't a proper rip. Even change to one bit of the whole thing could result in the game not working, it could be that the disc was slightly dirty and something wasn't read properly (which would explain the error message you got) and after you cleaned it it works fine :)

Is there anyway to use your hard drive like a memory card? I mean, I only have 2 memory cards, do I need to go out and buy more or can I save to the hard drive? Again, with my buddy's xbox, I've played games and just saved my games to his hard drive...
Anyone know if and how to do this if it can be done? Thanks.

Nope, unless the game supports saving to the HDD (which only a handfull of them do), you have to use your MC. You could just use uLaunchELF and backup your game saves onto a USB flash or HDD though

It's not really smart to compare the Xbox to the PS2 you know. They're completely different systems. Where the PS2 uses the HD as a peripheral, the Xbox uses it as an essential part of its design. So, that fact alone would make comparing both when it comes to HD rather useless. So, just because the Xbox can do it, doesn't mean the PS2 can.
With this I am not implying your not smart or anything (though if you believe it to be so, I apologize) all I'm saying is, both systems are different and comparing both on an apples to apples basis is not really something feaseable or even possible, technically that is. :)

oh I know, I wasn't comparing so much... rather just asking. It wasn't like I figured since xbox can do it that the PS2 would be able to... I just didn't know if it was possible, and was simply using the xbox as my example/reason for asking... that's all.

ok this is my question i have hddloader.. i was wondering if i could just hook my ps2 harddrive to my pc computer and like transfer games from my pc computer to the ps2 harddrive and use hdloader to run them? or another scenario i had was if i loaded up hdloader and then wen i installed a game instead of putting in say an actual game would i be able to put in a backup game instead and install it or would that not work? THANKS

Yes you can take your Hard Drive out of your PS2 and use Winhiip in your PC to install Cd's DVD's ISO's or Backups to your PS2 Hard drive
if you have a fliptop or slidecard mod for your PS2 you can install backups by inserting a larger TOC (Original) disc let it read for 1min or so click install swap out for the backup and continue the install... I wouldn't suggest this because it's not good for your laser and HDLoader is used to save your laser in the 1st place so why use the PS2 drive...
or another solution (haven't tried this yet myself) as others have said buy a USB Hard Drive Enclosure but your PS2 Hard Drive in it and transfer games using Winhiip via USB
