THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR COPYING STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT AND ARE BASED UPON THE PROCEDURE SUPPLIED BY ANDREW EARLIER IN THIS THREAD.
YOU MUST HAVE DVD DECRYPTER, CDVDGEN, AND ISOBUSTER INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER.
1) COPY THE PS2 GAME DVD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE AS AN ISO IMAGE.
a)OPEN DVD DECRYPTER.
b)IN THE DESTINATION AREA, CLICK ON THE FOLDER ICON TO CHOOSE BOTH A NAME AND A STORAGE LOCATION FOR THE ISO IMAGE.
c)CLICK ON MODE > ISO > READ.
d)CLICK ON THE DVD ICON TO START THE PROCESS.
e)WAIT UNTIL THE PROCESS IS FINISHED THEN CLOSE DECRYPTER AND GO TO STEP 2.
2) EXTRACT THE FILES FROM THE ISO IMAGE.
a) CREATE A NEW FOLDER ON YOUR HARD DRIVE TO STORE THE
EXTRACTED FILES.
b) OPEN ISO BUSTER AND CLICK ON FILE > OPEN IMAGE FILE.
c) NAVIGATE TO THE ISO FILE CREATED IN STEP 1 AND CLICK ON ?OPEN?.
d) HOLD THE CONTROL KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD AND LEFT CLICK
EVERY FILE AND FOLDER IN THE LIST.
e) ONCE ALL THE FILES ARE HIGHLIGHTED, RIGHT CLICK ON ONE OF THEM AND CLICK ON ?EXTRACT OBJECTS?.
f) NAVIGATE TO THE NEW FOLDER THAT YOU CREATED ON YOUR
HARD DRIVE AND CLICK ?OK?.
g) WAIT FOR THE PROCESS TO FINISH THEN CLOSE ISOBUSTER.
3) CONVERT THE EXTRACTED FILES INTO 2 BIN FILES.
a) OPEN CDVDGEN.
b) SELECT ?CREATE NEW PROJECT? AND THEN SELECT ?DVD-ROM
MASTER DISC?. DRAG CDVDGEN TO THE LEFT SIDE OF YOUR
SCREEN.
c) NAVIGATE TO THE FOLDER THAT YOU CREATED ON YOUR HARD
DRIVE BACK IN STEP 2 AND OPEN IT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR SCREEN.
d) SET THE WIDTH OF THAT WINDOW SO THAT IT IS ONLY 1 FILE WIDE. THIS WILL PLACE THE FILES INTO THE SAME ORDER AS THEY WERE ON THE GAME DISK BUT YOU SHOULD CHECK THEM FOR CORRECT ORDER JUST IN CASE.
e) CLICK ON EDIT > SELECT ALL.
f) DRAG ALL THE FILES INTO THE RIGHT SIDE OF CDVDGEN.
g) LOOK FOR A SLUS OR SLES FILE AND WRITE DOWN THE FULL NAME AND THEN CLICK ON THE ?VOLUME? TAB IN CDVDGEN.
h)TYPE SLUS OR SLES (WHICHEVER YOUR FILE NAME IS) INTO THE 1ST BOX NEAR "DISC NAME"
i) TYPE ALL OF THE NUMBERS FROM YOUR FILE NAME, WITHOUT THE PERIOD, INTO THE 2ND BOX.
j) TYPE PLAYSTATION FOR THE PRODUCER NAME AND SELECT THE APPROPRIATE LICENSE AREA.
k)CLICK ON "REC...".
l)SELECT YOUR DESIRED STORAGE LOCATION AND NAME THE FILE STAR.IML
m)YOU WILL GET 2 ERRORS, JUST CLICK OK FOR BOTH.
n)THE RECORDING SCREEN WILL POP UP, CLICK ON FILE > EXPORT IMAGE AND SAVE IT ON ONE OF YOUR HARD DRIVES (NOT IN A FOLDER) NAME IT STAR.LST
o) WHEN IT'S FINISHED, YOU WILL HAVE 2 FILES NAMED STAR.000 AND STAR.001
p)CLOSE CDVDGEN AND GO TO STEP 4.
4) MERGE THE .000 AND .001 FILES INTO A SINGLE ISO IMAGE.
THE EASIEST WAY TO MERGE THE FILES IS FROM A COMMAND SCREEN.
YOU WON'T HAVE TO INSTALL AN EXTRA PROGRAM THAT MAY NEED
EXTRA FILES TO WORK AND COME ON, ADMIT IT, DOS IS SO MUCH FUN!!
a)CLICK THE WINDOWS START BUTTON AND CLICK ON RUN.
b)TYPE CMD IN THE BOX AND HIT ENTER.
c)CHANGE THE DIRECTORY TO MATCH WHERE YOUR STAR.000 AND STAR.001
FILES ARE STORED.
EXAMPLE- IF THEY ARE ON THE C DRIVE, TYPE CD C:\ AND HIT ENTER.
IF THEY ARE ON ANOTHER DRIVE, TYPE THE DRIVE LETTER WITH A COLON AND HIT ENTER.
d)ONCE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT DIRECTORY-
TYPE COPY/B STAR.000 + STAR.001 STAR.ISO AND THEN HIT ENTER.
e)WHEN IT'S FINISHED YOU WILL HAVE A NEW ISO IMAGE NAMED STAR.ISO THAT YOU CAN NOW BURN IN STEP 5.
5) BURN THE NEW ISO IMAGE ONTO A BLANK DVD.
USE YOUR FAVORITE DVD BURNING UTILITY TO BURN IT AT THE
SLOWEST SPEED.

I hope this set of instructions will help the newbies out. If anyone finds any mistakes in these instructions please let me know and I will fix it ASAP.
Let's all thank Andrew for coming up with the procedure in the first place :)
And thanks to Scorsese for his DOS procedure contribution :)
If you have any problems installing the programs, look back in this thread. I think most install issues have been covered.
I fixed my file name typo as pointed out by Artdog. It was actually wrong in 2 places.

i successfully backup Starwars BF on my first try, but i've notice more scratching noises than the original game. Well this happens with all my backups really, but this one is really noticable because it is so big. Is this normal, and if i try a higher quality dvd-r will it help?
i'm currently using sony dvd-r DMR47L2

hi all
just found out that if you have a mod chip fitted then starwars will work with a 1-1 copy.
just if you use swap magic that you need to rebuild it

I am having the same problem with backing up my Star Wars Battlefront. My PS2 will not read DVD+R only DVD-R. I have used DVD Decrypter and Nero and the game plays okay, but some boards have no sound at all. Can anyone tell me exactly where to get the stuff I need to back it up and all of the audio work. And if there is any different way I need to back it up. Thanks

Use the instructions above to rebuild. All sounds will work fine. I have a backup of the full 4.37 that would only play the missing sound if I used cog swap & swapped in devil may cry.

THUD:
I also had the ATPI problem... What the problem is is that there is a missing file from windows/system32 folder... I ultimatly tracked down the file from NERO's website/driver download area, but I was directly linked to its location, so I really couldn't tell which links to click, and I forget the direct link... Anyways, download the file and copy it into the folder... The file name should be: WNASPI32.DLL
Insert that and no more bugs!!! Once you execute the program it should run normally and that socalled new windows (that you and I are/were both wondering where/why it wasn't comming up) will then come up and you can then follow the guide from there... Good Luck man!!!

ATTN: BUG REPORT
If once you hit REC and get the following error:
msg "ASPI Manager Loading Failed"
You need to get a hold of the file called:
WNASPI32.DLL
And copy and past the file into the windows/system32 directory on you C:\ drive...
Once copied, the error should stop and the REC should work as normal...
I can't quite direct link you to where I found the file, but it is very common and not hard to find... I ultimatly found it at the Nero driver download section...

PS THIS GUIDE F-ING RULES... It really works...
Previous backups with the usual dvd-decrpt and image burn caused the game to be playble but the loss of audio on a few levels, specifically the LAST 2 (try single player quick match, any of the last 2 levels, to verify)...
This ALT backup guide/method saved the day and even though it seems weird that the game shrunk in size by almost 50% it works PERFECT, every level, with no BUGS!!!

Now, in order to get Star Wars BF to work fully, do I need to add a patch onto the backup in order to play it online? If so, where can I get this patch? Any information is greatly appreciated.

Hi excellent instructions, game works perfectly. Just have a few questions though. How did you come across this procedure and does it work for all games. I was thinking about using this to cut down on the size of some of my games and make them run better. I tried to use it on silent hill 4 but it failed, could have been something i done wrong :). Thanks in advance

Well i didn't have anyluck, i did the instructions right, burnt at 2x, thats as low as i can go, put in swapmagic, swap with the game, and it makes this weird clicking noise, and the red border comes up. Realyl hoping this was gonna work out. guess this only works for Starwars BF, not madden 2005 :(
My orignal madden backup boots righ tup, but it sucks cuz it slow and somtimes freezes.

has anybody get it to work for Hd loader???
If not I will but i dont have a mod chip. So what i was thinking is to transfer the game trough hd handiness. But idk if the game has to be in a ISO file or just in a folder with all the files.
Oh how can I patch the game to be able to play online??
Pd: I dont have a dvd burner neaither a mod chip. All I have is a usb Flash drives, which i used to fo the memory card exploit.

Well I think I am almost there. I exported the files to a folder and then when I opened cd\dvd gen and then did put directory it put the files in there and it automatically puts the files on the right hand side. It looks like it works and then I do the rest of the process and eveything seems to go just like you said earlier. It did not work. I think maybe the problem is that when I open the DVD on my computer and explore it there is only one folder and it is the one I made on my computer to put the files in and then when you double click it it opens up to all the files that I got from ISObuster, so somehow I think I need to get just the files and not the folder on the disk from cd\dvd gen. I hope some of this makes sense. Can anyone tell me what there disk has on it when it is opened on the computer. Of course a working disk. Please help... I think I am close.

Hey, I tried this process and it worked flawlessly on my V7 with messiah 2 chip. My question is, what exactly is this process doing to reduce the overall size of the disc? and also, would this process work on any oversized PS2 DVD backup?

To get it to run on Xp all you have to do is search for a file called autoexec.nt is should be in your C:\windows\repair directory, copy and paste this file to C:\windows\system32. That should do it.

I just successfully burned a backup of Star Wars Battlefront. All I used is DVD Decrypter, Disc ID Utility, and Image Patcher. Everything works properly including the sounds. Of course I am also using a DMS3 chip on my V7 PS2. You only need to do the other stuff if you are using the swap disc method. Thanks for all your help. I've learned a lot from this thread alone.
