superboi1,

what are we. mind readers? You give hardly any information at all.

1) what is your maximum upload speed (your ISP should tell you, as well, test here: http://www.dslreports.com/stest

2) and yuou max download speed too

-- be careful when reporting speed - kbps and KB/s are different (as in 200 kbps and 200 KB/s)

3) how many people in the circle involved in that downaload - how many seeds are there? How many peers?

4) what warning light - yellow or green (if no warning light system - get a torrent program that does have one like BitTornado)

5) did you port forward (allow download access) in your router the same port #s you have listed in your torrent program? This is because your router is a hardware firewall and you must open (port forward) the same ports used by your torrent program.

6) and your software firewall must also excude or exempt your torrent program.

I went to the US Robotics USR8054 configuration utility and i found the remote management

Remote Management Enable
port 8080
Remote IP Range From To ---do i have to put a range here?
Allow to Ping WAN Port Enable
Remote IP Range From To ---do i have to put a range here?
UPNP Enable Enable
Gaming mode Enable
SNMP Enable Enable
I dunno know if this will help because im not that really good in computers really.
Oh yeah...im not using Azureus (if that smiley face is what ur talking about)...im using bitlord v1.1 and I've disabled my firewall connection to allow bitlord to download properly.
Since the port in my remote management is 8080...i also did that to the 'listen port' in Bitlord program (is this what u mean by port forward?)...Im still getting a low download. While downloading battle for middle earth this is what i got under summmary

connected seeds- 7(maximum possible:7)
connected peers- 56(maximum possible:416)
connecting peers- 25
dowload rate- 5KB/s from 18 peers
upload rate- 7KB/s from 9 peers

its been going like this for hours

You left out the most important setting - I didn't see your upload spped max. All you said was 4.4 Mbps (4400 Kbps) which doesn't mean much because you;ll never reach it. it is of prime importance you set your upload speed correct in your torrent program.

Smiley faces - I get colored lights - in BitTornado. I know if there is a firewall issue. I'll stay on a yellow light if so.

Get a darned torrent program that lets you specify the port or ports used (port range) - not someing that uses ports in the 8000 range - use poerts above 50,000 (there are about 65000 ports). Whatever port you use, it has to be reflected in your router - you have to log in and port forward those. port 8080 won't do thats a standard port for something else... I am unsure what you are asking because I never used that program. The wording is flakey "Remore ports used" i don't understand...

I use BitTornado. There are only 2 boxes i have to deal with - upload speed and max uploads (max connections).

if thats not the one...den how do u get ur max upload from your ISP?
Sh*t...i dun even know this terminologies but explaining it would help.
Can u teach me how to configure the setting as well?

Thanks and a lot of help will be appreciated

I did another speed test from the site u provided and this is what i got

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-03-18 21:44:10 EST:
4104 / 363
Your download speed : 4104 kbps or 513 KB/sec.
That is 18.5% better than an average user on rogers.com

Your upload speed : 363 kbps or 45.3 KB/sec.
That is 30.3% worse than an average user on rogers.com

29 KB/s upload speed is OK if your upload max is 20% more than that. This setting should be no more than 80% of your max upload speed. 29 KB/s = almost 240 kbps. if your upload speed is like 375 kbps then 29 KB/s is more than safe. You could boost it up to 35 (35 KB/s in this case. If your upload speed is only like 240 Kbps then 29 (KB/s is too high. You say your upload speed is 45 KB/s so a setting of 35 is a bit less than 80% and should be OK.

But ports used - on another page what port range? You can change the port range there but you have to close then open BitTornado before this setting takes effect. But the thing is if you do not know how to log into your router and reflect with a "port forward" any ports you are using in the torrent process then your download speed will never be more than a trickle... You are using a router, it is supposedly a firewall, and needs to be told what ports to open. Sanme goes for the software firewall you use. In the software firewall either port foprward the used ports or exclude/exempt/ignore the whole torrent exe program.

I have a green smiley face and my NAT is ok as well. But the ratio is bad ).175 < 0.5 (This is rite beside teh NAT indicator) How can I configure Azureus to download faster. sorry I use BitTorrent. Same rules apply to any torrent program.
- Upload speed = 80% of your max (in KB/s).

- Port forward in your router the ports used in your torrent program.

- Some DSL modems are firewalls and have port forwarding issues.

- Port forward torrent ports used in your software firewall, or just exclude or exepmt the whole torrent program used (an exe file).

- Keep in mind you are freelancing trying to pick up trackers/torrents - about 1/3rd of the ones you try you can't even connect and bergin a download. Probably best when freelancing to use a torrent search engine like torrentspy or isohunt that report the strength of the tracker/torrent.

Im using verizon bussiness dsl 764/256, torrent program is bitcomet. Is there any solution to fix 25kb/s d/l speed to like 50kb/s ? Because the max i always get 25kb/s and no more!! never passed 30kb/s. Its like a d/l cap.But the u/l i can let it go to 45kb/s (no poing to leave that high though).HELP!

also changed max connection to pc like 50 i think.

Well since you will not use a program that will tell you if you are having a firewall problem or not, I am not sure.

But I suggest then that you unplug the router going into the modem and instead plug your computer straight into the modem. This means any other computer on the home network will not have Internet access. Then go and do a files retrieval and if things start going faster after about 15 minutes then you'll know it'as the router and it's built-in firewall. If your upload speed sucks your download speed will suck.

Hi
i have bit tornado and the status light is always yellow but the torrent still downloads but i was wondering how to make it go faster because the other ppl usually get speeds 100KB/s + i only get around 30KB/s

and also i read in the other replies telling to open the ports but if bit tornado is using the ports 10000 to 60000 do i have to open each individual port from 10000 to 60000 or is their an easier way (i use windows firewall)

*by the way my internet speed is usually more than 1MB

pmart and Homerdoh, the most important setting of any torrent program is to set it to not tax the upload capability. Set the Upload speed or max upload speed, whatever Bitcomet calls it (I don't know, I don't use Bitcomet), to 75% to 80% of your maximum upload speed.

You will be using KB/s in a torrent program, and you probably know your speeds as in Kbps. So if you divide Kbps by 8 you get KB/s. As in 400 Kbps upload speed = the same as 50 KB/s upload speed (50 x 8 = 400).

The small "b" in Kbps stands for bits, and larrge letter "B" in KB/s stands for bytes. 8 bits = 1 byte.

Download one torrent at a time. This means you need one port not a range of ports. But use ports like in the 50000 range. if you want to use a range do like start 57775 end 57777 random. Remember when you change the ports in BitTornado it doesn't take effect unless you close the program then next time you open it, it'll take effect.

Yes it will still download but you are firewalled. If only a software firewall like the Windows firewall, just look at the "Exceptions" tag and path it to the BitTornado exe program that runs BitTornado. This will open all ports for BitTornado use but when using the Internet the firewall protects you still. You might notice in the Exceptions area programs like Yahoo Messenger are already there.

If you use a router (are on a home network or other network) that router is a hardware firewall and the ports you use in BitTornado must be opened up, it's called "port forwarding", and you have to log into the router and port forward those ports. There are a few DSL modems these days that are also hardware firewalls. AS well if you are with Rogers in Canada you have to use a specific port to work right..

I believe I have both TCP and UDP turned on in my router for those port's forwarded. But you may not have to have them both on for using torrents, I never looked into it.

When retrieving a torrent, it uses one port only. You do not even need to use a port range when doing one torrent retrieval.. If you were doing two retrievals at the same time, which I do not recommend unless you know it will benefit you (if both are very weak), it would use two ports. So only do one at a time. Using a port range for one retrieval means BitTornado will randomly choose which port to use and stick with it until finished.

The whole torrent process was written to punish your download speed if you do not give good upload speed. In theory the faster you upload the faster you will download. If the torrent is super-popular (like 30 seeds and 60 peers or more) then an upload setting of 25 (25 KB/s) is good enough to get good returns in download speed, but otherwise the faster you upload the faster you will download. But that 80% rule holds true as mentioned before - the torrent program uses that other 20% of your upload speed left over to work it's stuff in.

Hi all,

I have a 1mb/per sec broadband connection, the internet goes into a linksys wag54g, and it is then distributed amongst three computers. I connect to it using a wireless adapter. I am using Azureus v2.4.0.2 to download torrent files. The download speed is extremely slow. I have read the thread on how to open ports through the router, but I don?t know the username and password to it. Its not admin, my dad knows but I?m not suppose to download torrent files. So I want to know if there is a way of opening port 19795 on my router. I cannot reset the router because I can?t set it up again. If anyone knows how to change settings in the router without a username and password please let me know.

Thanks

Gawd.. I sure hope not. That would completely destroy the purpose of having a firewall in the 1st place.

You could try setting your port used in your torrent program that something else already uses. But heck you're a minor, and if anyone helps you they could get into legal troubles, not even counting "possible" downloading of copyrighted material without permission.

Hi,

Is there a way of listing all the routers (linksys WAG54G) open ports? I might then be able to choose one which I can use for Azureus.

Thanks
Matt
