Just get the one that's for your region - they are on the first page of this thread. Also get the Wii firmware updated online to 3.2 - online setup is detailed in the manual.

Edit - I realise you've looked at the first page cos I gave you the link previously so I'm guessing you have no clue about your region. Where is your Wii from? If it's USA or Japan it's obvious which disks you need - neither of those then it's PAL.

Rafadawn,

Thanks for the reply. I think I do have a Wiikey. I found this link online http://kinbuta.cocolog-nifty.com/kinbuta...ikey_697d.html. It's all Japanese but that's what my modchip looks like and they have ATMEGA8-16AU next to one of the pictures.

I thought you said the chip was in unless you are on about installing the firmware... In any case update the chip 1st then the Wii firmware.
It doesn't matter that much really - just it's possible you might have to mess about if it doesn't take the wiikey update initially.

makes no odds - just get none-padded and if it doesn't work then get padded.

Also - READ that first post and try and learn stuff from it because you NEED to try and understand as much as you can. You can't have a modchip in and then forget about it, happily playing backups without a hitch cos it doesn't work like that.

Use the filechopped one first.

If you have a wiikey then you would install the latest update 1.9s. Make sure you use the same region as your Wii's.

Hey guys, I wanted to upgrade my modchip firmware but I have no idea what modchip it is... and... I don't want to open-up my wii. What will happen if I run this 1.9s Wiikey update on my wii hoping that it has Wiikey? :)

Hey all, thanks for the help before. It worked out well, my hardware/software now is:

Wii (3.2E)
Wiikey (1.9s)

Now, the matter at hand. I am looking at ordering an original SSBB NTSC. Will it work with my current set up?

Ideally I believe it should, if I am not wrong it might put on duplicate channels but that should be about it aye?

Since my wii firmware is 3.2E it should run fine aye?

I put in Metriod Prime yesterday and I got duplicate channels :P

If it's a wiikey then it'll get updated - and you'll know it's a wiikey. But there is a possibility that you will struggle to update it even if it is a wiikey because it can be picky and you might have to try more than one option to ensure that it definitely is or isn't a wiikey. If it's not then nothing will happen BUT you will know nothing about your modchip which is not the best of circumstances cos chances are newer game backups won't work unless your Wii is relatively new and has a D2CKey in - and even then it'd be best to know. It's also possible that at any time the chip will be rendered useless by some firmware update depending on what it is.

Yes it should work though it's not a definite banker that it runs 100% on PAL - I have the NTSC backup and to get it 100% on my PAL Wii I have to change the Wii TV output to 60Hz AND use freeloader. I would expect to have to do exactly the same with the original.

Dupe channels can be "removed" see the thread for that and the SSBB thread for matters relating to that as well.

I updated my wiikey to 1.9s, however the original SSBB disc still will not play. Do I need to update the wii to 3.2 now before it will play the original?

(it first would not update to 1.9s, I would get the connection errors, so I tried the disc swapping method and it seemed to complete the update because it said firmware update complete, reset the system)

well now 1.9s is out, what do I have to do with my wiikey?
I am about to physically install it and I just want to play it safe. After I have installed it: do I download the padded 1.9s, burn it at 4x to a DVD-R with image mode, put it in and thats it?

... or have I completely lost it? :P

Thanks guys, I just don't want to ruin my wii.

You are advised to get up to 3.2 regardless but an original SSBB has the necessary firmware it needs to play the game (3.1) so updating to 3.1 would make no difference. If that game isn't running then the problem is not the Wii firmware.

Possible reasons it won't run -
1) the wiikey isn't actually updated to 1.9s and there was some issue when you updated.

2) you are trying SSBB on a PAL (or JAP) console and it's not entirely happy there - use the SSBB thread to discuss your problem.

3) Your Wii isn't happy reading Dual Layer disks.

o ok, yeh he pretty much asked the same thing.
But prove me wrong but dont you have to set a setting somewhere about configuring region override?

In other words: is 1.9s all you need to get going from the start?

region override is set using the 1.4 config disk - after you've updated the wiikey firmware to 1.9s

Hey Guys... I have the wiikey, 1.9s, used config 1.4.. firmware 3.2U

Just wondering if anyone is having the odd difficulty loading original games? it just started happening once I updated to 1.9s?

Mario Galaxy in particular? Anyone else having this issue?

It definitely should not be happening. However, different firmware updates have been known to somehow increase the Wii's sensitivity to disc scratches.

1) Does the SMG disc have any obvious scratches?

2) If it does not, and assuming that the problem was caused by the update, try a different burn of the 1.9s update and re-install it.
