1. Install the 1.9s update
2. Update with the 1.4 config file
and this is where I get lost. At this point, do I insert 1.2 config file if i need to turn region override on?
You DO NOT update with any config disk - you configure the wiikey. 1.4 is supposed to be the disk to configure 1.9s so you'd use that. The only reason for going back to 1.2 is if you couldn't get 1.4 to run because region override was off and stopping config 1.4 from being read. If 1.4 is read then that will turn region override on anyway.
Thx for the clarification Junir. I'm assuming its completely fine going straight to 1.9s and then 1.4 config without doing any updates in between, meaning once I install my wiikey i can go straight to 1.9s and then 1.4 config.

Ideally 1.9s goes straight in yeah - but who knows? - you only have to read through this thread to see the number of ppl who hit brick walls.

I put the s firmware on (latest).
Can someone tell me if I need to get the latest config disc, and if so, what should I change with the config disc?

The Wiikey team did their job ... updates and config published ... even took the time to finish-up the US Config version ...
Now that everything is out there in the wild ...
PS: Thanks to everybody who has been helping with the thread ... you guys are doing great ... I am always around, but no need to intervene at all. Thanks again!!

So where do we get official config disc?
And what should we change when using config disc with latest firmware?

Don't you have it already?
If not - don't sweat - Rafadawn will sort out the front page when he gets time. ;)

Hey guys..
Wiikey / 3.1 / 1.9g NTSC
I need help. I can play wii backups fine but not GC. I was able to play them before but all of a sudden nothing. I haven't updated since ssbb came out and they have played since then. I tried Super smash bros melee just yesterday and it was fine. Now I can't get any of the gamecube game backups to work.
Also have D2pro/ 3.2 NTSC and can't play the gc backups either on that one. I was able to play them before and now nothing.
Any ideas??
All games are ntsc..I do not play out of region.

What needs to be changed when loading the latest config disc? Is it even necessary if we patched with the latest wiikey firmware?

You've got to admit that this is really strange ... i mean the same problem with two different mod chips and two different Wii firmware.
Therefore, I do not think it has anything to do with the mod chips or the firmwares ...
What error do you get? ... Could it be the controller?

In general the only setting you may want to change is to torn Region Override ON. That will alow you to play games from out of Region. However, as always, you will need to be careful with possible Bricking of your Wii.
For prevention of Bricking, you have several options, including a specific Wiikey setting now with the 1.9s update. Howeve, use the specific sticky to ask and/or learn about it.
Finally, you will possibly want to use the Config disc to tweak settings when you start having some problems with Backups ... however post back here in that case.

No need .. it's back :-)
I guess this is the Wiikey Team's way to tell us to download and backup those files.

The clue is the use of the word "BRICK" in the title ;)

OK, here is what I did to upgrade to v1.9s. Everything are OK but not SSBB. I am sharing this to see if someone have same issue. And maybe someone can help me to fix the ssbb problem.
1. The Wii firmware is 3.2U with D2B
2. I have a wiikey installed but never done any update. So I updated it directly to v1.9s/or v1.9x.
3. I used config v1.4us tried to configure the setting. After all of these done, many of the backup games could not be read.
4. Then I did the updating to v1.9s again, some backup games came back up. Getting better but not all yet. The Super Mario Galaxy and SSBB still could not be read.
5. So, I decided using GCOS config v1.3 to turn on the region overwrite and Dev mode. All backup games were working fine including Mario Galaxy but SSBB was still no good.
When I inserted the SSBB dvd, wii did recognize the disc and I could open it. When I click on "Start" the whole scree turned black and freeze. I have to unplug the power to reset.
All backup games are OK with v1.9s now but not SSBB. I used same media as SMG to burn the SSBB. DVD media should not be the issue. Not sure what else that I missed. Can someone help?
Thank you.

If your issue is SSBB then you should use that thread - This thread is for more general Wii and wiikey issues.

Hello All,
I've got a wiikey installed on my US machine with 1.9s SMG works flawlessly as well as retail SSBB. I had tried a backup of soul calibur legends earlier and it worked fine but now when I put it in (i've tried reburning this 12 times used imgburn and nero at different speeds) It brings up the tile screen ok I hit start and it thinks for a few seconds and then pops back to the main menu. This is a NTSC-U game, any PAL games I try do the exact same thing but in the meantime SMG works fine still. I'm a little lost why this seems to be the only game working for me. I tried downgrading the wiikey to 1.9g then back up to 1.9s and problem still exists.
Any ideas would be very helpful, i'm at the end of the rope with this thing.
thanks,
Dave

@ rafadawn
Super ssmash bros melee starts to play a little video and then it freezes and I have to power off the wii. It won't reset.
Zelda, mario kart, super mario sunshine, donkey kong jungle beat show up gamcube in the channel and then once I click on the channel the screen reverts to the "Warning blah blah bla press A button on the wii remote" or the screen goes black. All of these games have worked before and all originals still work on both wii's just not the backups. ???
update: Got DK jungle beat to play now but not the others. I did nothing but reinsert the game several times into the wii.. Not sure what the deal is. I have played all the others before and they played fine, now nothing..

Good question Bruce, does SSBB have to be backup using a DVD9 dual layer? I downloaded the DVD5 iso from P2P site and burnt it to DVD-R. Maybe this is the problem?
Thanks.

SSBB is definitely Dual Layer yes, but the DVD5 is a rip and it's also discussed in the SSBB thread.

Definately is weird... some people it works, others it doesn't.. not really known at this point as to "why"... but anyhow...
my situation was EXACT to yours.. I have D2B as well... I used config 1.2 and then SSBB worked.. anyways.. strange with the D2B series, new firmware is great, but the higher the config disc the worse it gets? lol.. not sure there..

Hi all, I have a Jap WII with firmware 3.1J and I tried installing the wiikey update but was unsuccessful, just got the sega sound and that's it. The test failed for some reason. Any ideas as to why? I know I've got a chip in there, so :P
