If you have 50 Cent: Bulletproof, that's needs rebuilding too. It looks like fun.

If DVD+R's allow you to change the book type to DVD-Rom, would it not be a better media type to choice over the DVD-R's in order to obtain better compatibility for the PS2? I am still unsure which type to use for backups for the new slimline PS2.

v.1-3 PS2's don't read backups well. They MAY work, it's just not all that likely. The slims should work fine with DVD+R's or DVD-R's.

Oh yeah I have a hot date later err no that was a dream about Jessica Alba I had last night. Glad you liked the FAQ. Your PS2 can play burned DVD-R movies with no mod, just not burned DVD-R games.

i think i found someone who can install a duo2se on my ps2 v1-3, do u kno if i still would have problems with backups? or would that only be an issue with swap magic 3.6 ty

Well I don't know. The Duo2SE is a nice chip. I would DEFINITELY make sure I know that my PS2 would read backups before I paid a guy to install a chip. Make sure he's reputable. Mention to him that you heard that v.1-3 PS2's don't read backups well, if at all. That info is straight from my mod guy, Dave at teammodders.com. He knows his stuff and was straight with me at every turn. If you detect a lot of BS in the guy's answer, look elsewhere. It seems to me he should know that v.1-3 PS2's don't read backups well. Almost any reputable mod site on the net won't even work on em. I have a v.4 PS2, and a lot of sites won't touch them. There are a lot of shady mod guys, so beware.

man.... u keep comin up big tokijin, thanks again ill triple check evrything i do but u mention to know for sure if my ps2 can play backups before i get the chip, but how would i kno that unless he installs the chip and it works/not works????? is there some way to check?? if theres no way to tell before he puts in a chip then i might just check with a few friends to see if their ps2 is v5 or later and convince em to switch with me since none of em care bout this stuff

Well if your friends would allow you to trade for a v.5, definitely do that. There would definitely be no issues playing backups with a v.5 PS2. Other than installing the chip or trying it with Swap Magic, there isn't any way to know for sure if your PS2 will work with backups. I use TYG02. So far they are 35/35 with no skips, lags, or boot failure's.

I just used my Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R with Silver Lacquer Thermal Printable (TYG02) today and ive burned 5/5 successful games at 4x with my Lite-On SOHW-1633s BSOS. All video's and everything play and very good loading times. I couldn't get Socom 1 working with 2 different kinds of media, but then i tried burning the same iso with a tyg02, loaded it with swap magic and it worked perfect.

If you where to copy a bad media game to iso, then to a TYG02, would it play as good as an iso of an original ps2 game copied to a TYG02?

Sure. As long the iso image burned properly when you burned it onto the crap media. Your DVD burner is only as good as the quality of the image it's copying. I backed some CMC Magnetics stuff to my Yuden's and they work fine.

No problem. I think afterdawn is going to start paying me any day, at least that's what they keep telling me "the check is in the mail," funny I haven't recieved it yet... lol. Yeah I just got a nice new Sony Burner and I'm paranoid as hell. I made a copy of Blood Omen 2 and it lags a little here and there. So I loaded up the original, and it wouldn't even load. So no need to be paranoid, for anybody else out there. Trust me you aren't the only one who counts the seconds it takes for a game to load. Also you might want to check the media code on those HP discs. http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm To check the media code of the disc, open DVD Decrypter. Insert your burned or blank disc. Check what it says under Manufacturer ID.
Someone else who uses em told me it was CMC Mag AE1. That would be the increasingly well know CMC Magnetics garbage.

Garbage you say, well i also backed up a copy of dbz budokai tenkaichi and it works flawlessly while streetV3 only has that 1 load problem during the dunk contest mode.Do you mean its garabage as in it will wear and tear my laser down quicker? if so im gonna stop using those things from now on.

Well I have very limited info to go with those HD DVD's. The one person who checked the media code on them that I talked to told me it was CMC Mag AE1. That would CMC Magnetics, which is garbage. I can't say all HP's are garbage however, because big companies use six or seven different manufacturer's for their discs, hence why some Maxell's are CMC Magnetics, and others are RitekG05. Check the media code and compare it to the link I posted. The reason Taiyo Yuden is so good is simple. Aside from using quality dyes, they manufacturer their own disks made in Japan. There's no outsourcing to shady companies in Hong Kong. Most cheap or boot legged media comes from Hong Kong. Generally stuff made in Japan is of excellent quality.

I have tdk dvd-r's and I checked the manufacturer code and it said TYG02. I understand that tdks and taiyo yuden is good, so I know my tdk's are good. Then I checked my Office Depot dvd-r's and the manufacturer code said RITEKG05. Thinking that it's Office Depot, I would say it's crap. But since the manufacturer is ritek (decent media), I don't even know if it's good or bad anymore. Are my office depot dvd-r's decent or crap?

Either of those should be good. Never heard of TDK's being listed as TYG02. That's pretty good then. So far Taiyo Yuden's are 51/51 since I've been using them. Truly the best DVD-R's out there, in my opinion.

For God's sake, if y'all wants to know how's the quality of the media you're using, then go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262544 or if you just want to know more about high quality media. I made that thread specifically just for newbies. Now you'll be surprised to see the quality scores from them scanning.

Enjoyed it, but remember don't blame on your PS2 or DVD players for not playing your backups properly if you're going to use CMC MAG media or other cheap and unknown media down the road.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.
