faisi69 128kbits = 15Kbytes, 256kbits = 30Kbytes so 512kbits would = 60Kbytes max, so if you are getting 50-55 then your fine, now this is the last time im gonna say this for everyone else because they still dont seem to understand torrents, assuming port forward is done correctly, speed is dependent on how many seeds and how leechers and how much bandwidth they are all sharing and have available, so lets do the math, 10 seeders with 90K upload and 200 leechers with 15k upload = max of 3900K for all 200 leachers in a perfect world assuming everyone is sharing thier max bandwidth speed, now you have 100 seeders with 90K and 10 leachers of 15K = 9150K available for the 10 people in a perfect world, thats one thing to think about, the other thing is private and public sites, public sites dont force you to upload so why would anyone want too, private sites enforce a 1:1 ratio making people upload which increases the speed, now in a perfect world you will connect to everyone that has the files, that is not true in the real world some times you just cant connect because of the distance you are from them, and how many connections each person allows in thier client preferences, so lets say 1 person has the complete file and 10 leachers has 50% or more, now the seeders allows 8 connections you may get screwed and not connect to him, and the others allow 4, so anything that seeders is allowing for bandwidth you automatically lose, and if the leachers have set thier upload bandwidth down to half or less you are losing alot more bandwidth that wont be available too you hence slowing down speed even more now if you cant connect to 4 of the leachers you are losing even more bandwidth, so the moral of the story is the more seeders and the more leachers the more available bandwidth plain and simple

okay i need help on how to configure router/firewallll.. problem is that im using BitTornado and my light status is always yellow and i have 0-4kbps download rate... btw, i have a verizon DSL internet connection (846 kbps speed) and im using westell versalink 327W modem/router. i already did the port forwarding (portforwarding.com) and i used port range 10000-10010 as instructed. the problem comes in with NAT check and shield up. it says "stealth" on each port i forwarded. but i have my firewall down on my router (i called verizon and they told me theres no firewall up) and im using WINDOWS ME and i believe there is no firewall installed... i dont understand why my ports are blocked..anybody with the same problem that uses windows ME pls help me.. im new to this issue/networking.. thank you!!!

I have bittorrent and BitTornado. I forwarded my ports and made sure none of my fire-walls were getting in the way, but when I use bittorrent I only get two bars and when I use bitornado I tend to get 15-22 kb/s even though my connection is faster than T1. When I first got BitTornado, bittorrent was working just fine and BitTornado downloaded 50-75 kb/s. Can I get some advice?

Hi, I am a self confessed newbie as are many people who don this message.. often irritating those we seek help from :)
Okay I am using uTorrent.. however BitLord gives similar download/upload rates.
I am using router to connect to the internet (ADSL 1.1Mbps) and in cmd its shows that my ip address and Default Gateway are the same, so I assume that this means that I need not mess with router settings etc. (please correct if im wrong [very likely:P] )
Okay, My download rate is fluctuating between 3k-12k with upload steadily at 20k+ (ive set max at 20k). Im in UK on BT Broadband internet, and can only connect to 4 of 139 seeds and 23 of 2388 seeds. Just wondering if anyone had any tips they could specifically give me to try to speed this up. when I try to port forward also, ive been told i need a static ip and when i try to using the protforward.com it says "subnet mask must be contiguous" as its 225.225.225.225 .
Sorry if this info has been given already, as Ive tried alot but many seems specific to the US.
Many Thanks, Dealt.

now my upload speed is at 15 kb/s and my download speed atomaticly goes higher now...(but wait a few minutes) i am downloading sometimes almost at 200 kb/s
try it youll see it works...

Hi im using utorrent. I have set my fire wall so that nothing that utorrent is doing is not bieng blocked. It say that my network connections are correct there are no NAT problems. I used the portforward site for instrution on how to config my router and i did. But im getting 5-13 KB/s My connetion is WAYYY faster than that. I cant find any other thing that can make my have slow torrent downloads. This is on all torrents no matter the number of seeders/leechers and the tracker statis. Also my upload rate is good from 30KB/s (when the torrent has bad health) to 65kb/s. After it uploads i change how fast it uploads to download faster but it doesn't make much of a diffrence. (BTW by the way my router is a linksys)If u can help please tell.

hey slowslow, I've got the same problem AND the same modem. I need to get it fixed now aswell, but I know how the problem occured, I was using a software called Tuneup Utilities which simply speeds up the performance of your computer and internet connection speed. I did this, and it slowed my download and upload speeds to 10kbs download, and 2-5 upload. used the rescue ceter of the program to undo the changes, but it's still coming t that speed. I use bitcomet, and I tried using other clients, same problem. I even had a wild stab at limewire and programs like them, but it's even worse in there... Please help!!!

i have just started using these but i can't seem to get decent speeds.
i am using a bt voyager 2100 router which i have configured for port forwarding, i am using abc client and running on windows xp.

Hi Everybody,
I'm new at Afterdawn. I was also facing the speed problem on utorrent client. Ultimately i got the solution. here i found many people with same problem. so i'm posting here all the required steps to get blazing speed on your torrent client.
My network is configured like below.
Adsl modem >>> Dlink router >>> wireless connection >>> Laptop.
In my case
Adsl modem address:192.168.1.1
Router address: 192.168.0.1
Laptop Static Ip:192.168.0.100
your modem & router address may be different. for that just refer the manual of them or search online.
(it's better to change your ip address from dynamic to static)
<STEP 1>
If you don't know how to change over static IP please click the link below.
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm
Remember if your router address is 192.168.0.1(as in my case)you can choose static ip like 192.168.0.100 or 192.168.0.101 or 192.168.0.102 or 103 0r 104 ....
<STEP 2>
Now first of all do port forward on your Router.
How to do portforward for your router is described in detail at
http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm for differen routers.
<STEP 3>
Now, time comes to use some tricks.
Your computer's ip address is open to your router (which is 192.168.0.100 in my case). But router will not show this ip addres to modem. it is the fuction of router.
Router will show only one IP address to your modem. What data router gets from modem, router will distribute to different computers as per their query.
so, you have to FIND OUT THE IP ADDRESS USED BY THE ROUTER TO CONNECT TO YOUR MODEM.
You can find this address in WAN seetings of router's seeting page.(http://192.168.0.1)
If your modem address is 192.168.1.1(as in my case) then this address will start from 192.168.1.* (first three numbers will be same as of modem's address.) last number may be 2,3,4,5 anything.
In my case this magic IP address was 192.168.1.2
<STEP 4>
After getting this magic IP address it's time to do PORT FORWARDING ON YOUR MODEM. Open modem's setting page (http://192.168.1.1 in my case).
Now onwards all the procedure for port forwarding on modem is same as of router. Only Thing is this time while forwarding the port on modem just use the magic IP address of router which we have found on router's WAN setting page.(192.168.1.2) in my case.
After doing all this things just restart the client software & check for the green light or NAT test or anything to check port forwarding.
You will get green light in utorrent, in Azureus nat firewall test will show ok status.
So, wish you Good luck for setting up your network for bit torrent & getting blazing speed.

Hey Drilon1,
I am also in the same boat with you. But one thing I know is that the Modem you are using does not have a router. Check your Window Firewall and configure the port. go to exception tab and add the port. name the service as "Torrent" and add the port, one for TCP and one for UDP that you are using for Azureus. try the test and it should work. Now you should get a faster speed but would probably not going over 100 or 200 I am still trying to find that out.
This whole configuration is just not working. anyways, hope it works for you. I did at one point get up to over 100+ with direct connection to the modem that you have and then back to an average of 20-60kbps. My speed is 6mps download speed, 352kps upload speed.
