To all noobies, first-turn off windows firewall ( doesn't work anyway). second-try Azureus, third-on your router make sure you have entered the ip address of the computer you are using the bit torrent client on, ie. my conps ip address on the network is 192.168.1.100 and i have 2 others that end 101 and 102, this really is easy with a Linksys router. third use any other port number but 6881-6889 as your innternet service may be throttling back on these, BT traffic accounts for over 30% of all internet traffic in use today and they will block it during peak hours. fourth-go to portforward.com and follow the instuctions to the letter. fith-make sure Azureus has the decentelised tracking checked as this will alow a more consistant tracking of your torrents, and under options,conections,tcp/udp incoming listing port enter the port number you want to use, then go to options, tracker, client then enter the same number, then click on server, http-allow port number +1, https, allow port number +1, then plug ins, allow UPnP, then distibuted db,enter port number same as first one, also under tracker is where you can change the tracking protocol as i said above use decentalised not one of the others. Hope this helps, ans remember the speeds are only as good as the seeders conection/setup will allow, my speeds vary fom 1 or 2 bites to 750kps depending on where i get the tarrents and the time of day, so good luck, Craig G.

ok u might of already tried this but here goes anyways, you might have 2 unblock it through norton anti virus, what i did was
open up norton anti virus-> options-> internet worm protection-> trojan rules-> scrolled down and unchecked "unused windows services Block" then clicked ok and ok again, and my NAT error turned green and my dl jumped up 20-30 kbps (to around 60-80). HOPE THIS HELPS, reply if it does

Alright, I need some major help. I have the system 'linksys BEFSR41v3' when I go to http://192.168.1.1/ . The password and user name should be admin and admin, but they are not. When I hit the drop down list it has darthvolcanus@hotmail.com, my e-mail adress. I have no clue what's going on, but maybe I already made a password long ago and don't remember it? or maybe it's just 'linksys BEFSR41v3' and I have a different router, no clue. If I did lose my password, what do I do?

to reset your router to the factory defaults and start over there should be a very small button on the back of the router by the ethernet ports, you will need a pen or something small to press it in, do this with the power on and you should be able to use the admin password. hope this helps, Craig G.

Ive done as you said way back on the first page and opened the ports etc but my problem is that as soon as I start a task [in BitComet 0.62] it goes up to anywhere between 30-50kb/s but then after about 30 seconds it rapidly goes down to zero and I have no idea why. As far as I know all the BitComet settings are the default settings.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I hope these tutorials help, the azureus guide is only for disabling DHT and keeping your torrents private!
uTorrent tutorial: http://www.xzon.net/andrew/uTorrent.pdf
Azureus tutorial for disabling DHT:
Open options in Azureus.
In the Connection tab make sure all of the boxes, except the 2 in the image below, under Networks and Peer Sources are unticked They are not required!
Make sure "Public IP network(not anonymour) , and "From a tracker" are Enabled.
Next go to "Plugins\Tracker\Web" and DISABLE it
Next go to "Plugins\Distributed DB" and DISABLE it
Next go to "Plugins\Distributed Tracker and DISABLE it
Next go to "Plugins\JPC" and DISABLE it.
I personally don't see the point of it as all p2p data from your client will come via a proxy that your isp has to deploy. This is supposedly meant to increase performance but it would require multiple users wanting the same data from the same cache and that is even if your isp has deployed one. Untick the two boxes under the JPC to disable.
Next go to "Tracker Client" and "Enable key passing to tracker for enhanced security"
Next go to "Tracker\Server" and DISABLE all.
Then go to "Sharing" and ENABLE "Private torrent - only accept peers from the tracker"
Also UNTICK "Add hashes for other networks", I don't see why you would want it.
*** After this restart Azureus to let the changes take effect. After these changes your client will not be broadcasting ET peers to others and you won't be wasting your upload to others. These changes will not stop you connecting to ET or other private trackers, nor will it stop you connecting to public trackers.
What's needed are some images to explain it all!!

May them splinters point the rite way

can someone please tell me what i am doing wrong, i am trying to download a torrent with azureus its got 36(113) seeds and 476(1875) peers, i unlocked the port 12556 and set it as the incoming tcp port on azureus, i open azur. and use https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=12556 to make sure that the port is open, it says that it is. when i close azur. it says that it is in stealth mode. I dont understand why my download is only in the 10-20 kb/s range, i also tried a different torrent and that goes around 400-500 kB/s for about 10 minutes and then drops all the way down to 0-10 kB/s. can someone please help me out as to what i am doing wrong, thanks
-Nick

Where are you?
Who is your ISP provider?
Has this happened before or just on this torrent?

I may be wrong but the same thing was happening to me. Speeds would start out great and then quickly drop down to almost nothing.
Turns out it was my ISP throttling bandwidth to bittorrents. Through googling and various forums, I found a port that they don't throttle, they use it for VOIP so they can't throttle traffic on it and my speeds are back up to normal :D.
I'm in Toronto, Canada so don't think this would help you, sorry. Have to try and find out if your ISP is doing this and I'm sure there is a port out there to get around it.
Are you using a client that allows you to encrypt your torrents? I know with utorrent you can. That way they can't see what it is, thus they can't throttle it. Just a suggestion.

hey people,im a newbie here, you gonna have to excuse me for not reading all the posts of the topic, but i read a few at the begining, and this last page, and came across some things that i dont really understand, camdog in the beginig of the topic suggests opening ports 6881-6889,but mitch999 wrote we should avoid those ports?anyway,i use Azureus and bitlord, and configured them to work on the same port(not both at the same time offcourse),but what i found funny was that when i finnaly got Azureus to have all the green lights - nat and users count, and in the mean time i got a respectfull ratio as my upload speeds were most of the time higher the the dl speeds) torrent wouldnt download anymore, and if they would, speed would be 1-2k,so i installed bitlord with the same port and got average of 37kB/s....thats probably highest rate i downloaded any torrent....i have siemens se555 modem/router with wireless connestion to my computer with dsl 512/128 connection

Hi. I am using Azureus torrent client. My download speed is very slow, and I have a 8Mbit/s network!!!!!!!!!! MY download speed never crossed 5 Kb/s.... It should go at least 600 Kb/s!!!!!!!!!!
I have already typed 'cmd' in 'Start --> Run'. I have then typed the IP adress in the browser, but it just said: Internet Explorer cannot open the web page. ?????? ??? '???? ?? ? ? ? ?? ? ? ? SO, if you could tell me what's the problem? I am using Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet modem. I am very angry!!!!!
P.S.: I have turned off my firewall, NAT is OK (green)...

Looking for some help here. once I found the ports thing for torrents I got hooked (it really is amazing how effecient it is)
anyway its KILLING my internet. I mean it brings my internet connection to its KNEES loading web pages or e-mail is nearly impossible (but the torrents work fine and vonage works fine) it seems to only effect e-mail and web browsing. I will have to try pages over and over again never fully working. I thought it was coincidence but I have tried with and without torrents running and it consistantly dies when I run torrents and works fine withing 30 minutes of turning off torrwnts.
Suggestions ? (I have my upload capped at 2/3 of my total available upload and raising or lowering this appears to have NO effect on the problem) and I am no where near saturating my download pipe (bit torrent never manages more than 1/3 of my capacity usually hovering around 1/10th of my capacity.
Any ideas ?
