hey, im gonna probably sound like an idiot but im new to all this stuff, my torrent download speed is hovering at about 20kb/s and there is an upload rate of 45 kb/s, i was told bit torrent is much faster than using other peer 2 peer software(i am currently using limewire, which is faster than my bit torrent) ,now i read a few pages from the start of this thread and did open my ports 6881-6889 tcp and udp for my windows firewall lan settings. im using a shitty bt 210 adsl voyager router, all i want is for my torrents to download quicker... I have just downloaded Azureus, is this faster than bit torrent?
PLEASE SOMEONE HELPP!!!!!!!!!!!
cheers

Just add the port that Azureus is using for listening. Some said don't use range 6881-6999..some say use that...not sure which one is right. Anyways, last night I got home and my whole DL part has a balck smiley face. Errors showing everywhere. not sure what is going on.

If someone is reading this please help me out. I and downloading from an Azn Site for the TVB TV series. thanks

hey thanks for that, well time for me to help, my speeds have acutally improved from this, if your in the same boat as me this should help, if you yous notran anti virus, open it up, go to -options - internet worm protection - Trojan rules - and uncheck ONLY unused Windows services Block click which is most likely at the very bottom of the list, press OK and thats it, when i did that my NAT sign turned green, and i had green smiles for my health, if you use macfee then try find out how to do the same thing, anyways if it helps you in any way tell me about it, hope it helps!!

Oh yeah, I cant set the TCP and UDP to the "both" setting. It's either one and thats it.

Any help would be appreciated.. Please... ASAP.

Ok just thought I'd share this, I used bitcomet(had to change coz I couldn't disable DHT), azureus(longtime user) and now uTorrent(smallest and by far the easiest on any machine, meaning long hours with little or no effect on system resources.

If you have forwarded and opened ports in your firewall idealy over the 49160 range (6881-6889 are blacklisted ports so change them immediately even if your program has them chosen by default!)

Lastly I use windows defender and have to block this program when using uTorrent as it blocks uploading, d/loading when connected over long periods of time!

Hope this helps someone!

Oh yeah @Akemii just create a TCP port and then a UDP! If you use uTorrent and only create a TCP port it should ask you for a UDP (just remember which one it asks for!)

I warned you yesterday to stop multiposting but you didn't listen. You just picked up a week suspension for that. If you rejoin before your suspension is up you'll be deactivated permanently.

Hi- I just stumbled across Torrents yesterday. I downloaded "bit tornado" and then downloaded what i think is a live bluegrass music concert. The files are now in a folder on my computer. I do not know how to play them. Can anyone help? the file extensions are .flac
like I said, I'm a big newbie.

Hi hectrbrn,

flac is a lossless audio codec so you'll need to install it on your system in order to hear the concert. Here's a link to the codec,

http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html

You'll also need to make sure your media player works with flac.

If you need further assistance you can post in our audio forums so we don't drag this thread off topic,

jimbo,

different routers use different 'combinations' of user name and passowrd. because the first one was a linksys, that was what it was. urs is different. http://portforward.com/routers.htm has a list of routers and their default user and passwords. just find ur router

well i am having problems too myself=) but there are a lot of things that affect download speeds, not just fowarding ports. this one time i downloaded something without fowarding and there wasn't that many seeds or anything, but i still got ~200+ kbs speeds. so i can't be much help there sorry

i'm new here and i tried port forwarding...as you can see here.
(did i do it correctly?)

anyway, after forwarding my ports, i went to check on shields up, this is the url= https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
to check the status of my ports from 6881-6889. It was initially stealth, which means there's some kind of firewall blocking which i already removed. but now it's all closed.

and there's no improvement on my download speed for miu torrent. it's still <5kb which is really depressing.

i also adjusted the windows firewall/port setting thingy,(the network task, added the ip,internal, external port no for service)...
but no improvements.
i disabled other internet firewalls i have too like norton, etc, but to no avail..

So, what else must i do to receive higher download speed?

hey all

on this thread i was told to forward my ports using portforward.com
i have found my router and address that i should type in the adress bar. (which i did)
but on this website it says; 'by default the username is blank and the password is 'admin' but it wont let me access my port options thingy, although i enter it correcctly. i have a linkseys wag54g.

at the moment my downloads are only going to up to about 24kb/s and then lowering again to about 8kb/s. it keeps doing this (going up and down)

can anyone help me please?
