Hi there, I was just reading this forum and am also having some problems with my sitecom 202 4s router. Although I have foward the correct ports my torrents still download very slow. After alot of surfing I think it has to do with the number of connections that are open and something to do with the iptables the router has in cache. If the number of connections is too large or the iptable is full the router more or less freezes up.
Can anyone recommend anything to fix this problem? And which router would have a higher number of connections and a bigger or more effiecnt ip cache?

I hate how nothing ever works, I type in my default gateway in ie and ff and nothing happens, page cannot be found. I've added the ports for windows firewall to no effect I might add.

Hello. Another question. I use a netgear router and when I try to use my ip address it says I can't change the default settings. It also wants me to select a service name, for this option I only have about ten options. AIM, age of empire, FTP, http, icuii, ip phone, netmetting, news, pptp, quakeII/III, real-audio, telnet. Any ideas? thanks

Hey lads,
ive been attempting to use torrents for alittle now, ive gone through all the port forwarding bizo and i thought id finally did the job correct. My dilemma is i have 512k broadband (slow, i know) and when i download a small file, such as an album ill get the 50+ speed youd expect, but when i download a file around the 700mb size its lucky to get past 10...any help would be wonderful.
cheers..

Hey Internet,
I had a little torrent problem and it took me a day of online searching and a minute of common sense to figure out how to solve it, and I thought I'd share it with the world for others who have my problem to find.
I couldn't get torrents to run at anything over a few kbps, and when uTorrent was open (soulseek had same problem), my internet slowed to a painful crawl. It got to the point where I had to turn my torrents on overnight, only to wake up & find that my 1 gig torrent was another 10% done. I'm on cable and get great speeds when downloading from http, so there was no reason for this.
Yet No matter which ports I setup to be forwarded on my router (Netgear somethingorother), I couldn't get a green checkmark in uTorrent, and I would get a NAT error in Azureus. I read so many guides on setting up the network and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get any port to work. I was so frusturated that I couldn't solve my problem.
Then I went to bed. I woke up in the middle of a dream I was having about trying to solve my problem. I was fiddling with my internet phone. INTERNET PHONE! It acts as a router. But don't I have it plugged into one of the ports on my router? Turns out no. 10 Second reconfig - plug the internet cord into the router internet port & plug the phone into one of the router's ports, reset the router, & voila! Everything started working right away, and I haven't since had the internet slowdown problem when running uTorrent, Azureus, or soulseek.

I am not familiar with networking but i used the method by camdog to open up the port but my ip is weird 10.22.32.1. I am not using a physical router. i just connect the LAN cable directly to my PC from the port (attached to the wall)
i feel that i do not have a router, am i right?
How do i open my port then?
Thanks

@ chop2113 I haven't waded through all the posts but I haven't seen PeerGuardian mentioned, probably is somewhere. Anyway, it's basically a firewall for p2p users and blocks known ip addresses that see what your downloading and report to the RIAA/MPAA. Not 100% but very good: http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/ I think Protowall does the same but I'm not familar with it. Using a proxy will protect you at first but your ip address can still be located and, from what I've read, drastically slows your speeds.

hi there guys, pls help me out on this.
i m using an Arris touchstone CM450 cable modem. my internet speed specified is 256kbps(very slow). i m not able to connect to any remote peer in bitcomet.even while using Azureus, i get nat error for any port i use.Utorrent also always gives me yellow sign. i contacted my isp, they said they havent blocked any ports. hell, i even contacted arris n they said they do not hav a router inbuilt into the modem, so no port forwarding probs shud be there. i hav disabled windows firewall n dont hav ne other firewall, just NOD32 antivirus. on regular downloads,i get a speed of around 30Kbps. plzzzzz help me guys as i dunno wat to do n how to increase torrent speed.
btw i hav a static ip. but my default gateway n static ip r different.
also some times i get connected to 1 remote peer out of 60. only sometimes.

jekll to access your Thomson Speedtouch 330 you can type http://speedtouch.lan in to the address bar of IE or type the same in the run cmd, if your using AOL you'll find it hard to create a static IP as AOL dosn't support static ip addresses!

Can't explain your before and after format results chop2113 but when you go to Start>Run>type in cmd>click ok>type in ipconfig/all>click enter, do you have the same ip address as the one you port forwarded? Some routers select a new ip address each time you restart rendering your port forwarding useless; in that case, you have to set a static address. Could be that your isp has started port throttling, too. Try setting a port in your client over 50,000 and checking use encryption if available. As far as I am aware, only utorrent and Azureus support encryption.

Also, from what I see in your other post, you entered your ports into Applications instead of Virtual Server. Delete your entry in Applications for Azureus and enter 1 port for it as Azur 1 in Virtual Server. And, definitely check your ip address after a restart. You really should keep it all to 1 thread. very hard to keep up.

Yup Misty my isp is throttling me. Im currently waiting for the security department to call me. I cant wait im going to rip them a new one for this. those A**holes. and to think im paying all this money for this connection. And there only letting me use half of it. I dont think so its war!!! You know i dont just download from p2p i do work on my computer as well what nerve they have to do this. but i want to know this i have or had a 15 mb d/l and 2 mb u/l. When i d/l from Azureus 4 at time only how much of that could i have been using. how is this measured. i mean i know there is no way i was downloading at 15mb and u/l 2 mb. so how can they say i was using too much. whats up with that. please clarify this for me and how they think they can limit my connection.. thank you and i apologize for stating those negative things about computers. turns out it wasnt the computer but my isp provider...

Good luck on the throttling issue but I'm pretty sure you won't get too far with your ISP. They can tell what your downloading and from where the same as the companies that spy on you for the RIAA/MPAA. You aren't using too much, you can use your entire cap amount, just not for BT. The number of people using BT makes a huge hit on bandwidth available to ISP customers (especially Cable) so they block it. It doesn't seem right to block what people pay for (what are caps for) but the only recourse seems to be to enable encryption which may work, use port 1720 which may work or change ISP's. This is only a simple explanation.
