Oh, no, its not a USB storage device. It plugs into the gamecube memory card slot of the Wii and then a USB cable connects from the adaptor to a USB 2 port on your computer, then you use the free software that comes with (or an update from the website) to dump the game directly to your computer. Then you just burn a copy and youre good to go!

How many successful dumps have you had with this process? Could you post procedure for dumping as you state for everyone please? Screen shots are always very useful. Thanks.

You can read all about the process for all the functions at their homepage: www.usbgecko.com. there is also a forum, but here is some info they have: http://www.usbgecko.com/dvdextractor.htm. that is just through a link on the download page. Hope that helps!

I am still trying to figure this out myself..There is a Gamecube backup up thread if you just search.. I found this post on one of the treads:

"I have both NTSC and PAL Game Cube games and they play fine on my Wii without patching them.

You also might have a game that is not compatible with region swapping. The region swapping is only partially supported for the Wiikey. So that means some NTSC games will not work on your PAL unit no matter what you try."

Not sure if that answers your question but it sounds like it would play fine or you need to patch it. This was also posted back in early 07 so I am sure there is more info out there. The post also refers to wiikey and not d2ckey.

Cheers dude,

Guess theres only one way to find out! I read soemwhere that the DC2KEY doesnt require patching unless and update is required.

Thnaks for your help, I'll post back whether it works or not

Has there been any advancement on playing games from external HDD backups. Personally I would prefer this option as a backup since discs get scratched and are slower loading. Obviously, I'm assuming via the use of an external usb hard disk drive or maybe updating the internal memory space that the wii arcade games are installed. There would need to a software patch I'm sure... just didnt know if this existed? ...now that the console has been out for nearly two years, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I have a NTSC (U) Wii with wiikey, and I was wondering if PAL GC games would work on my wii. I was also wondering if I had to use brickblocker on them before to make them work, or do any other sort of patching to make them work.

THANK YOU

WOw..how exciting I get a red x after pressing Start DUMP.. an it says UNHANDLED exeption has occured in your application..if u click continue the app will ignore this error and attempt to continue. if u click quit the app will close immediately.

Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow..

SOOOOO needless to say i clicked the details button an thats all the jibberish informatoin written below so i click continue..an dont nothing happen.. im using the LG GDR8164b0l06 that i just bought today..

IS there a way to upgrade the rawdump prg. it says 2.0 but when u click on properties an investigate a little further its says that the file is 1.0????
Doenst' probably matter since im the dumb ass that didn't read u need a modchip to continue with this process..so looks like i may be selling this drive...

jus thought i share my story..thanks for all the other info posted..

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow

Means that there was a problem reading this disk...I would try cleaning the disk and trying again.

I am looking forward to SSBB coming out. Can anyone tell me how I can back this one up. Will rawdump work for this one since it is a DL? If so then once I have the iso, I can burn layer 1 onto a dvd5 or just burn to DL disk. I have wiikey and from what I am reading the backup may not work. Will the original still play since it has an update?? Any FB would be great!
