I have two DVDRW drivers installed on my PC, one is BenQ, one is Pioneer. I can use them to copy games (in either direction), and the copies play just fine on my D2CKey modded Wii.
Although Windows can't recognize the media of Wii Game Disc. My NERO can still proceed with disc copy. Because many times, there could be read-error occur during copy, you just need set "ignore read error" to force the disc copy to complete.
I tried with Benq's DVD-R and Memorex DVD-R at 4X and 8X, they both work just fine.
BTW, it took me only 13 minute maximum to to copy the disc.
This thread is bout ripping our ORIGINAL Wii games to make backups for our own use, you are clearly talking about making copies of copies. You should realy read the thread before posting, all you are going to do here is confuse people with inacurate information.
You may be correct, but I was just wondering where in the post is it clearly talking about copyong copied games?

He does not say he is making copies of copies but it requires a specific DVD drive, a specialy written ripper and a couple of hours waiting to rip an original. If he did it in 13 minutes with Nero and any old burner he is clearly making copies of copies.

You guys seriously need to stop searching for these drives and paying a stupid amount of money when you finally do find them. I do ALL my backups without a stupid LG drive and it only takes a little over 2.5 (5 for dual layer, im guessing) hours to rip and burn my Wii games. The USB Gecko lets you use the drive in the Wii to rip your games directly to your computer. You just have to plug it into your modded Wii and connect to you computer with a USB 2 cable. I havent tried it yet, but supposedly you can run emulation from you computer directly to the Wii as well as grab screenshots and do a crapload more to boot. Google it, check out the home page (usbgecko.com), do whatever you want. I got mine shipped to Los Angeles from some site in europe, but I think it is starting to be available from more retailers, and thus easier to find. Its about $45 or so depending on where you order from, so cheaper too. Trust me guys, check it, and I strongly believe this sticky should updated with directions on how to use it, because its way easier and more accessible, especially for noobs like me.

You should be able to copy an existing copy using ImgBurn although discs burned using some versions of Nero seem to have problems. You only need RawDump and the LG drive to backup originals.

I heard about that thing but when I read their forums it sounded like the software was still a little buggy, have they ironed out the kinks?
Personaly I like the LG/RawDump method because it only takes just over 2 hours for me to dump a game, I can use both the PC and Wii while I am doing it, I don't need them in the same room and there is no worry about extra stress on the Wii drive. You can get also LG drives for about $45 on eBay so it's not realy cheaper. Still, I'm not knocking the Gekko and if it works for you thats great. As you have experience with the Gekko maybe you could write a tutorial for everyone and start a new thread for it, I'm certain it would be appreciated.

Yes, GDR 8161 does back up games. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE LG.
I have an HL GDR 8161 (internal desktop drive) at it takes 1hr 30min to back up a game. (Yes that is one hour and thirty minutes.)I also have a 8163 (internal desktop drive) which takes 2 hrs 30min and a GDR 8082N(laptop drive in an external enclosure 2.0 usb)which takes 4 hrs..(UGH!)

Just so you know the HL stands for Hitachi LG
Also LG is then american front of GoldStar
This is why all 3 companies have the same model drive, GoldStar makes them all.

Yes, I am well aware. Most people take it literally that the drives have to say LG otherwise they think it won't work and keep asking the same questions.

You shoudlnt download games, unless you own them already. If you do own these games, check the ISO file size. And are the ISO files of the same orgin? NTSC-U PAL NTSC-J

Mmm wots region is your console.. because if its PAL and the game u downloaded r Ntsc or ntsc J, Some wont work eg metriod has to be pal to work on pal and strikers the same thing ... so to see if your other games work ( backups Use your own region )

Righto, first time poster here...ive perfected PS2 and XBOX 360 copies, but this WII thing has me rooted!! Im using rawdump2.0, .net framework etc...have the right ROM and actually dump the whole game BUT, when i go to convert to .iso , i cant find the fricken file !! Windows popup for me to open the .wii or .wod file, but rawdump has hidden the file on me..it definately AINT in the rawdump .exe file as stated in the guide at the start of the thread....( and YES, i have read ALL 80-odd pages!! ), so... whats the fix?? Any ideas people??
Thanks
