I downloaded the LiteOn setting utility. I put in a folder with smartBurn and Booktype Utility for LiteONs. Do I need all 3 programs or does the settings utility have them(BT and SB) also? I have opened SU and seen the 1st tab for setting the smartburn and three others. Why do I want to burn faster than the media? The 2nd booktype tab opens but there is nothing active that I can click on-greyed out except for the blue 3 types of DVD+ discs. Maybe the link GM gave me was corrupted. Does anyone have another site for DL setting utility. I'm going to try the one I have again. Does it make any difference where I put the setting utility? I may be putting it in the potty soon because everything is working fine w/o it. LiteOn techs write some screwy apps for their burners. QSuite for BenQs was easy and worked from git go. The liteon is already booktyped to DVD-rom for +R and +RDLs with Imgburn. The NEC 7200 and old LG 2166 have never been a problem! It doesn't matter too much since I use the Litey to read and the NEC to write. LOL

garmoon just so you know the Settings Utility only works for the LITEON drives. ;) I'm sure you know that but I had to say it. :P
I was just trying to give you something easier to use and that had BOTH utilities in one little app. :P Obviously I didn't make it easier. LOL. If you are gonna run the Settings Utility I would do away with the others. JM2¢ on the deal. :D

Yeah I knew it worked with the Litey and it's the only one I've tried to use it with. LMAO But I tried a new version DL same results-no ability to bitset in the booktype tab-BUT that matters not since the LO lh-20A1s drive is bitsetting them to DVD-Rom anyway.I'm going to stick with burning at X16 and X8 with my TY T02s, since I get usually no drop in buffer at that speed. So the only reason you advised me to DL the program was the all in one feature. That makes since and I will delete the folder with smartburn and booktype apps and use settings utilty. I'm anal in that I want to know why I'm doing something. Your instructions have not been confusing and so far I'm not confused past the normal senior moments I have! LOL I have been disappointed in the fact there has been a dearth of decent movies I want to even back up. They should use some of the money spent on DRMs (totally useless) and make some good movies that I could be excited about the DVD releases there of!

garmoon I've had no issues with the NEWER utility. ;) I say use whatever you're comfortable with and what works. :)
here's a little scan.... GOOD for the media.... I'm still not a RITEK fan but the iHAS120 seems to like them. lol. :P

yea you see taht right 18x burn with under 150 PIF's smoken
i didnt put a OS on that drive yet. that will be my weekend project.
now get to burning some real movies... ;)~

iHAS120 all burns and in this case scans too!! RedRob you were right about the Jitter test. ;) I'll use the 20A1S next time. :P

I'm NOT real impressed with this batch of MCC 004 discs. They are MIT and have the old label but they don't burn like some people get them too. lol. They burn fast but NOT as well as some other media. ;) I'll try them at 12x and 8x tonite if the chance presents itself. lol. :P

when i was at cdfreaks. in the liteon thread.that drive paticurly. all the scans were looking like the ones you have just posted.
codeking is to be working on a FW update for it.
getting ready to do a "new release of a real movie"...lol
gonna use clonedvd2 for this one.(vob files)
heres something new(damn its allways something new with me aint it)
i used the sammy to do this burn(SH-s203b)burnt fine shows all info in nero cd/dvdspeed test.except when i try t odo the QC scan the start button is grayed out i cant click on it..i take it out and put in another drive. its fine.

for some reason nero cd/dvd speed version 4.7.7.16
wont let me do a Qualtiy scan on it
but i can do create disc. and it will let me overburn the CMC-MAG AM3 to 18x the 7200S will only do them at 16x.
this here is what im wanting every time. out. look at the buffer,speed and cpu usage.
not to bad i guess for the media choice. im not haven the luck with these that you are GM.
the entire ime this was burning i had dvd-rebuilder running and surfing the net(for a sata hdd seing i dont have a real one...lmao)
i have it in my 20x litey now scanning will post shortly
if iremember correct when i first got this sammy i messed with the buffer,and i thinkmaybe Garmoon told me how.... wanna tel me again??? i dont remember..lol

Rob it's a change in the registry. ;) For the SAmmy that is... :P
Try a burn at 8x-12x with those AM3's!! I bet you'll like them a bit better. lol. btw the burn you did isn't that bad but like you I'd want to see the PIE's a little lower and the average Jitter <9.0 would be nice too. ;)

It wasn't garmoon, cincy. I don't have a Sammy and I don't intend to let you or greensman give me a reason that I might need one. I am also finished with wasting perfectly good Ritek discs playing with Nero Speed. The scans look fine for me and I'm not having any playback issues or copy either. I can't bear to play with my TY or Verb media on these tests anyway. And that's what I use for my burns. I give the Riteks to my daughter. Your last create disc scan looks great. Save your discs. LMAO

i keep every disc i burn(well not the test ones) im just trying different media to see what my drives like other than verbs and TY's.
ill never do a so called test on a TY no need to test those puppies.
now verbs there just so cheap and plentifull its hard not to experiment with them....
i am with GM on the verbs out right now there just isnt something right about them. think they might be messin with the DYE formula....
im actuall down to my last 50 verbs right now. and those are a good 8 months old so im sure they are from the "old school verbs"
hey you should try one of these samsung SH-S203B's pretty nice drive. i know one thing. i use my 18x litey for scanning. i use this sammy for reading and ripping i think its the best reader/ripper i have. ive yet to find anything i cant rip.... there cheap too.(well you wont get it as cheap as i did) but you better hurry you know all the good drives go fast and once there gone you cant find them any more...
hows that greeny? good sales pitch????

[lesson]You can burn an image from your HDD if you choose the Create Disc tab then run test>>burn image file... :)[/lesson]
NOW get to burning that "image file" of choice and show us the scans!!! hehehe. :P
btw.... don't buy a Sammy, get another LITEON or PIONEER or sony/NEC/optiarc.......... heheheheehehehehe. :P

Don't listen to GM about the Sammy...just cause he doesn't know how to use one properly doesn't mean they are bad drives. I'm with Rob and the 203B get my vote as well.

not to correct ya gm. but if he hits run test thats where he is waisting a disc...
once he clicks creat disc. in the setting box area. you choose your burn speed the burn image. then it will open up the window to select your image to burn. chose it and then it does its thing and burns away..
look up AT the one i did. you'll see in settings i have the burn image checked. that lets you burn the image of your choice. and not just a test and waist a disc.
now lesson over. gotta watch them sub teachers.....lol just jokeing GM

See I learned something cincy and gman. About not wasting a disc. I'm not good about reading instructions until something bad goes wrong. I did Install DVDRebuilder today and ran KillBill 1 and used its own HC encoder in 1 click mode. I guess I should have run it thru Voblanker to get rid of all the crap but the movie. The whole disc took 99 min to process the AnyDVDRip. Bad ? Good time? ImgBurn burned files. Disc looked good on monitor but haven't tried HD TV yet. I need another Lite_On like a hole in the head. I've got two in a cardboard box now, probably don't have 2 hr apiece time used. As for ripping, both the Nec 7200 and Litey 20A1S have not balked a reading anything- I have an always reads fall back-my external LG 2166. If it can't read a disc then nothing can. The 2 BenQs 1650s I used to use had lots of trouble reading scratched or smudged discs. I'm pretty much thru with all these test-BUT since nothing out is worth backing up I may play a bit still. I'm slowly learning that most DVD RW drives are pretty acceptable when it come to playback and copyability.
@LOCO How you doing man, haven't talked to you lately. All have a good weekend. I know I'm going to.
EDIT: Are you telling me that when you run the create disc test, you can do it without writing a byte to the blank and still have a usable blank after the test? Cause if you can, I can't. LOL I either get a playable disc when burn image is selected or a I get a booktyped disc that's useless and fully burned as a data disc I assume. Either way to me it's a waste of a disc. Cause I didn't need the copy to start with.

No I don't think that is what he's saying. You can use Imgburn in test mode and then look at the DVDInfoPro info if you want, but AFAIK you can't do a test type burn with CDSpeed.

I missed something I guess. lol.
Moony I didn't realize that burning an image was wasting one for you. ;) In this instance then yes it's gonna burn the disc and NOTHING you can do will bring it back. ;) I don't like "testing" a disc just for the sake of it. lol. I like to as least have something usable when I'm done. lol. :P
So RedRob... who is confused here?? I think I explained it correctly. ;)
This one shows the "tab" Create Disc I was talking about. ;)
And this one shows the Run Test selected in the menu and then hovering over the Burn Image File to browse for an ISO image. :)
I'm not trying to be a smarty pants here but I do want to convey the correct message and help with the correct directions. ;) Maybe the directions were a little vague before but these "screenies" should help clarify my "thoughts". ;)

garmoon this would be an easier process if your doing the movie only with DVD Rebuilder.
1. dvdfab decrypter to rip (freeware) (doing the movie only)
2. encode with DVD Rebuilder
3. burn with Clonedvd or imgburn
your times are about right with the system you have

Thanks for the info; that makes good sense. I have DVDFabPlat. DVDRebuilder was easy to use. The guide I had was old and didn't match the view I was seeing.First try was a success. Actually the thread it brought me to at AD was so outdated it said I had to download or buy all these other programs but Creaky was posting to someone that its HC encoder worked wonders so I tried it. Thanks Creaky. Some one needs to put a link to the newest versions of the newest guides.

Leave it to the manual man to come thru and answer my question first. I read thru it and had everything set right except priority was set to normal,not high. I didn't think you could use the disc again after the test. BUT I did read that if you use DVD-R you can use the Simulate test-I don't have any -R discs. The Drives you ask about are SATA. All ODD and HDD were SATA with new pc. The original that came with the Dell was some exotic Phillips-Litey that I removed and the other was a misbought Optiarc Lite_On 7191S was supposed to be the NEC Optiarc that I have now-I didn't get the memo LMAO :). So now I'm using the NECOptiarc 7200S and the Litey 20A1S. And very satisfied with both. If I get the red a$$ I can change a drive in a min with this case. Neatest hugest case I ever saw but it is big and roomy.

Yeah to me it's a wasted disc if no one wants it and I was running a test on it. I just chuck 'em. Now when I first got this behemoth I burned about 50 tests of different movies and saved them for gifts. I'll try another test and see if I get better results in high mode.

now heres a scan.
i went disc to disc on this one didnt rip to hdd.source drive samsung SH-S203B, burning drive AD-7200S
heres the same disc scaned on LH-20A1S
