I used to run them 24/7. I put my computer to sleep now. Last night it wouldn't wake up via the mouse though. Had to hit the power button, then it woke.
You are correct though. When a drive approaches warranty, I'll definitely be considering more, or replacement. Generally, drives get larger around the time I start considering it. Works out well :)

No! But it wasn't that long ago that those were the sale prices on both of those drives. That's precisely why I bought the Patriot Pyros 60GB SSD. If I was going to have to buy a new drive anyway, I figured I might as well buy something fast for my boot drive. A 250GB/16MB drive cost about the same as the SSD did.

i built a NAS out of some old parts i had laying about. never really under stood the whole hard drive dock things. i cant imagine having the drives controller in a static dust field environment is safe.

not to mention the force at which most hard drives spin up at kinda gives me the vibes that sticking a drive in a vertical position is just bad mojo. to confirm my belief in this a good 80% of the dells and Compaqs i've worked on with a vertical chassis mount always had HDD issues. the other 20% i chalk up to the dust bunnie domination.

some of these PC's i get have a dust grey Shag carpet growing in it. had one pc that had set so long with dust and humidity, i had a dust mold of the inside of an old AT case.

Perhaps their quality control would be better, if THEY had to pay for the RMA shipment ;) But I suppose it doesn't cost that much. I paid 5$.

I usually don't run my dock for long periods of time. And the hard drive gets stored in an antistatic case, specifically designed for Hard drives. I love them :)

Actually have found static to have no effect on HDDs in my experience. Have personally had a static shock while handling one and it's currently running my OS as I type... I agree better safe than sorry but HDDs seem fairly well protected despite their delicate nature.

If that don't beat all. I turned on my computer this morning, and surprise, AdBlockerPlus has been installed and updated. Same with ReDirect Remover. I didn't uninstall it because it wasn't there to uninstall. I didn't install the new one either. I was not aware, nor do not like the fact that software can be installed on my computer without my permission or knowledge

It was probably interfering with homeland Security. LOL!! I've been bitching since day 1 that there is no Internet activity light in Win 7, so those sneaky SOBs at M$ can poke around without you realizing it. Guess what? I just installed one!

It puts the app in the Quick Launch bar. You have to start it manually, but it works. Looks just like the icon in XP. :)

Oman7,

No, but we do have a poltergeist, an 8 year old boy named Toby. He died in the fire that destroyed the Original house, back in the early 50s. And No, I'm not joking!

So much uses the internet these days I would never be able to reconcile a basic icon like that. If you really want to know what's using the internet, when, how much, and stop individual programs or slow them down, look into NetLimiter:

Oman7,

Go ahead and laugh, but it nearly drove us crazy. We were always missing Coffee, Skippy Super Chunk Peanut Butter (won't touch Russell's Jiff), and smokes, but Bread is never missing, so I don't know how how eats the peanut butter, or even if he's the one eating it. I was here for 5 years, before I finally saw him one morning, just before daylight, and he knew I saw him and completely materialized. Once in a while he plays tricks on Russell, like swiping a full pack of smokes, 5 minutes after Russell puts them on the top of his computer, Russell will go to get a smoke and they aren't there any more. Then you hear this tiny little giggle, and the next thing you know, they're back on the top of the computer again. Toby likes his little fun and games! LOL!!

Oh, that Network activity Indicator has a setting where you can start it with windows, so it doesn't have to be visible in the Quick Launch window. Works perfectly!

ChrisC586,

When mine stopped working, I went to remove it and it had already been removed, Program Folder and all. I didn't think about the add-ons window in the browser tools, so I never removed it from there. Maybe that's why it reinstalled by itself?

Now if I could just get my screen saver to at least work with a blank screen, I would be real happy. I always say none to the screen saver anyway, and then go to the power and tell it to shut down the video after 10 minutes. It doesn't work! The Preview does, but the program settings for the Monitor power don't. It doesn't work if you choose a screen saver either. If I can get that to work, I'll stay with Win 7 longer. If not I'll go back to XP-Pro for a while.

Russ

I think what he means, is he/they want you to quote the three different posters, and contain those messages within one of your posts ;)

Imagine if I replied to 20 people, with 20 different posts. 20 of my posts in a row? Why not contain all messages within one post, quoting their posts ;)
