Why is Memorex so bad for burning 360 games?

I have always used Memorex and Sony for my PS2 games. I just used some Sony DL DVDs for 360 games and they all work well. I was about to buy Memorex but I just wanted to make sure. Anyone use Memorex or Sony DL Dvds?

Crappy media makes your drive work overtime while reading...causing stress on your laser and internals. You will get a longer lifespan out of your drive by using the best media (verbatim).given all other factors of normal wear and tear.

Just search for 'Memorex' on the 360 forums and see how many people are having problems with them.

Because Memorex doesn't manufacture their own discs. They outsource it to different manufacturers. And most of them use extremely low quality dye. Low quality dye breaks down at a much faster rate, causing the laser to strain to read it.
For better info, go over to the dvd forum.

Also because Memorex outsources, there is inconsistency in the manufacturing process, causing some batches to be read by your 360, and other batches not to be read.
Should we go on?

i agree with memorex being junk, and i wouldn't use them. however i have used sony before and never had any problems with them. only reason i use them is because their the only dl's available in my area and when i dont feel like buying online ill pick a pack of them up. the k-mart near me sells a 10 pack for 20 bucks. not a bad deal if you dont wanna wait for an online order.

Personally I've never had a problem using memorexs. In fact I have had more coasters with verbs than memorex. Never had any issues with reading either and I've been using them on the same 360 for 2 years now. Even if I did start to have problems with the laser, the money i've saved in buying memorex over verbatim I can simply get a new drive and spoof it. Hell with the money i've saved I could get a RRoD 360 from craigslist and reflow it and have a new working system.

No problems at all here using Memorex for 3 years. All games still work as do all of my lasers. LOL! The shit that some of you guys come up with is unreal. Find me a broken laser and prove to me that it was the brand of DVD+R that you were using that caused it to fail.

Well, thanks for being so anal about it. Case in point of the general attitude of this forum.
The bottom line is that no one can say that using anything other than Verbatim media will cause a drive to fail. It's bunk. Plain and simple.
What can be argued is that certain media will degrade faster than others over time, but they all degrade. In my experience, none of my discs have stopped working over a period of 3 years whether it be Memorex, Emtec, Nashua, Verbatim or anything else. That's long enough for me to come to the conclusion that I'd be doing myself nothing short of a disservice if I were to go with the over-priced Verbatims.
Someone in the Verbatim marketing department has done a wonderfull job. The 360 has been very good for their brand. It's genius, I'll give them that.

then why is it HIGHLY recommended everywhere?
http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm
i've had a memorex cd crap out on me. always kept in a jewel case, and out of the sun. low and behold, the drive couldn't read it 10 years later.
yes, there are other brands than verbatim, like taiyo yuden, maxell, tdk, or sony japan. all those brands care about quality and the lifespan, rather than making the quick buck. get it right the first time, and you won't have to replace anything for a long time.
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure
got a whole lot more to list . . .

Did you bother to take a minute and search / ask in the other forums, which was already recommended? Wait... you're not expecting to be spoon fed, are you? Don't be lazy.
There's plenty of proof out there; burn tests, etc; which DO prove that Memorex does sell subpar media.

I think that it's pretty safe to say that I won't care about my 360 games 10 years from now. Also, I'd question whether or not my 360 can actually outlast the media I use. I'd put my money on the machine failing first.

But the link provided by the poster just above you lists ritek and rikoh discs in the mid range of media, those are the 2 manufacturers used by Memorex in my experience, meaning that they are on par. Not sub par. Anything better or worse would either be above or below par surely?
Also, I'm still waiting for someone to show some proof that using these disks will have an adverse effect on the drive itself.

But scroll down lower and see how many manufacturers Memorex outsources to. There's what, 5 or 6 of them. So out of those there's one in the high range, one in the middle, and the rest in the low. And all of that was clearly stated on the first page. It's always a crapshoot when you're picking up a spindle of Mem's. You don't know if you're getting quality or not.
And if poor quality dye doesn't strain the laser, leading to a premature failure, then what does?
Like it's been said numerous times now, ask the "is Memorex good or bad?" in the dvd forum. You'll find a lot more info. Maybe we should ask a mod to move this thread over there as it does pertain more to the media itself than the xbox 360.
I'll ask.

I want to call you a dumdass, but I can't/won't because of the forum rules.
So what, you haven't had problems with Memorex in three years of use. That doesn't change the fact that Memorex discs are inferior in every aspect to Verbatim discs. One of my three Xbox 360s, has used nothing but Memorex and Aone for 2 years (it struggles with Verbs), but that doesn't mean I'm gonna reccomend that inferior product to someone else.
EVERY laser (Xbox 360, Gamecube, DVD player, TurboGrafx CD-Rom, BluRay player, CD player, PC drive/burner, etc) will "eventually" die. Cheaper discs just make then do it quicker. If you can bench press 170 pounds, and I up it to 220, you can probably do it, but you'll definitely give out a lot sooner. Same concept.
When we say Memorex will burn your laser out much faster than Verbs, it doesn't mean your laser will go out immediately, or in a month or two. It could. But what it means is that whatever your laser's life expectancy is, expect half of that with constant Memorex usage. You got 3 years, great. If you get 7, even better. Just remember, you would've gotten more with premium discs.
The sh!t that some of you guys fail to realize is actually what is unreal

I've never seen a Memorex disc from any of those lower tier manufacturers. I'm betting that I never will. Also, it's not a crap shoot for me. I buy my discs from a site which lists the manufacturer ID of each batch so I always know what I'm getting.

No, I've given reasons for my argument in this thread and put my case across. So far you've posted twice and said nothing at all. Nothing worthwhile anyway.
