I got a question for the SONY DVD-R, are they any good? I tried burning DVD movies they ran very good but whenever I use to create a DATA DVD using Nero Ultra, it does not work on any other computer. My DVD+/-R is Lite-On SOHW-832SX (Double Layer). I have an external and internal. I used the external on my laptop to burn a data DVD and it only ran on Lite-On DVD writers. Do lite-on dvd writers suck or is the Sony DVD-R media cheap?

yes, the 16x TYs are good, ONLY if they are GENUINE, check on the inner hub and i can verify for you...they will also code out as TYG03 with a media identifier program...
also another tip, the 16x TYs DVD+R format will be available early next year, so be on the lookout for those :) they will code out as YUDEN000T03 :)
a tip when burning 16x rated media, i PERSONALLY keep my burns @8x, i would keep the burn a little slower to ensure less chance of errors, but, the scans i have @16x are not too bad either, it really depends on your setup/system, use caution for speed when burning onto 16x rated media...

I recently got some Verbatim 8X DVD+R media made in Taiwan. In several of the other posts, I see people refer to "MCC 003" and "DataLife". Where would I find this information on my own disks? On the disk itself? On the spindle? On the packaging. I've looked all over with no success. Thanks for the info.

If you download dvd identifier (look for it on a search engine) that will do the trick.

Hi Folks,
I have been searching the web for answer to the following Q's but had no luck, so may be someone can help me ...
Q1: Is a DVD+R media REALLY superior to DVD-R?
FYI: I just started using Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 8X & 16X. These DVD blanks have great graphs using BenQ QSuite program so definitely nicer media.
Q2: I am using DVD-R, so I won't have problems playing my DVD back-ups in any DVD Player? Or, this is no longer an issue with the new DVD Players?
Q3: I have heard that anytime you burn a DVD (backing up a DVD) at any speed higher than 4X that your Back-ups will have a POOR Quality. Is this TRUE?
Assuming I am using Taiyo Yuden High Quality DVD-R blanks can I burn at higher 8X or higher and NOT LOOSE QULAITY???
What is the Max Speed the Experts recommend!?!?!?
Thanks!

theres NO quality difference between DVD+R and DVD-R there just different formats, some say there is but iam NOT convinced what works with your setup is whats important and i use dvd-r
Quote: Q2: I am using DVD-R, so I won't have problems playing my DVD back-ups in any DVD Player? Or, this is no longer an issue with the new DVD Players?
most newer dvd players will play DVD+R with no problems .there is one thing you can do if your going to try DVD+R is to booktype them to dvd-rom thats makes them the most compatable with all dvd players out there old and new BUT the Taiyo Yuden DVD+R rum more money

its not true BUT you never want to go above 8x backing up dvds ,most here burn at 4x some burn at 8x with success .good rule of thumb burn your 4x media NO higher than 4x burn your 8x media at 4x and or 8x if it works out for you with your setup ,burn your 16x media no higher than 8x,NEVER BURN YOUR MEDIA AT A HIGHER SPEED THAN THE MEDIA IS RATED. hope this helps out

I suppose this is a good a place as any to to ask my question.
I've been using discs with RITEKG04 dye for a couple of years now as it's compatible with the XBOX, but these discs are very hard to find now.
I've tried other media but they don't seem to be recognised by my XBOX. Does anyone know what media is reliable?
I keep hearing TY is the best dye out there. Is this compatible and what burner should I get to burn these?
Thanks

you should be able to find the GO4s online at supermedia store, meritline.com even rima.com
other good media would be Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim
and yes the Taiyo Yuden should be compatible
good burners would be Plextor,BenQ,NEC or Liteon (Plextor would be my top choice)and there very fond of Taiyo Yuden media

Hi aabbccdd,
THANK YOU for your response. You confirmed my suspicions, it seems the 16X DVD-R are best burned at 8X and the 8X & 4X at 4X speed. Noiw, I have another question for you & other folks ... since burning DVD's at 4X speed it gives you a better and more stable graphs and RESULT (not much pixlation and jitterness) would it matter if I just buy Taiyo Yuden 4X speed DVD-Rs versus the 8X or 16X. My only reason for this would be the $5 that I would save on 100 count DVDs.
Thanks Again!

No it wouldnt matter Taiyo Yuden 4x ,8x or 16x is all the SAME QUALITY no matter what the rated burn speed is so if your going to burn a 4x save the money and get the DVD-R 4x (thats what i use also with great success)

gonwk- The only difference is that Taiyo Yuden is Phasing Out the 4X media - to concentrate on 8X & 16 media - The 4x is excellent media just older stock that they are trying to sell down to make room for the higher speed stuff ! You just get a little more options with higher speed media You can burn at the rated speed (8 or16 X) at lower speed ( 4x or lower) or depending on you burner you can burn at higher than rated speed ( with certain media 4x Taiyo's at 8x for instance! or 8x's at 12X or 16X ect.! 16x so far is the upper limit of dvd media at present so you can't overspeed it ! YET!!! anyway to make the long sstory short ! If you can get a good deal on the Taiyo Yuden 4x by all means use it ! Hope you enjoy your Burner & have a Happy Turkey day! BYe!!!
