if you have XP, you need to go to properties for your connection and advanced, if it is enabled it will be checked.. if not, then your ISP may be trying to block those ports.

If you have a firewall besides the xp firewall running then it should have a small icon at the borrom right hand corner of the screen, right click it and see can you disable it!

If its not because of a firewall or router then the only thing that can explain it would be your isp! perhaps they blocked your client port?

Call technical support and tell them you need port 4662 and ask them are they blocking it. Dont tell them what you need it for just ask them!

This is a great thread.
I have learned loads from this whole forum. You guys running this are great.

I had a dial up connection with Zone Alarm and I was getting a high id 90% of the time. I loved emule :) in fact it was the final reason I upgraded to a 256 DSL connection (I also had to change ISP's).......now I can't ever get a high id. I didn't change any settings in Zone Alarm. Then I tried to use Kerio Personal Firewall because I read Zone Alarm could give you troubles with emule, but i am still getting a low id everytime.
I like ZA much better and would prefer to use it over Kerio, Is there something I should change in ZA now that I have a DSL connection?

I used the edonkey connection test and it would return the following message when I would enter port 80
connection was accepted on ip 66.239.##.##
sent hello but the answer doesn't seem to come from an edonkey client !??

What does this mean?
Could this be the work of my new evil ISP?

Thanks for all the useful tips so far.

Yeah, I ran the connection wizard and then set the upload to 10 and the download to 36.
Ive even changed the port numbers and made sure that they were open in Zone Alarm.
I think I will just call tech support and tell them that I think they are the reason for my low client id on my favorite p2p filesharing website lol {not really, I'm not that new :) } What other reason could I tell them that I need port 4662 open?

You are trying to run a chatserver that runs only on port 4662! ;-)

That is a great idea. They will let me know if they are blocking that port before they will know I have no idea how to run a chat server.
Thanks

Some of you are going to shoot me for this, but oh well.. I found that you get a high ID everytime when you share porn.. I always had trouble with low ID's until I downloaded 2 porn movies from sharereactor.com through emule, and now everytime I connect I have people downloading from me within 2 seconds and always have people in queue. LoL.

I don't share porn (unless it gets me a high id) :) but I have some nirvana and creed albums i share that start getting downloads as soon as I log on to a server and I always have loads in queue.

I didn't think that had anything to do with low or high id.

I am pretty sure it's just about connection settings.

I haven't talked to my ISP service dept. yet. They don't have hours when anybody's using the internet.

But as far as the porn.....hey who couldn't benefit from a little porn on their computer?

crack what? and what is a supeme being
am using kaz mostly for music..setting up my emule.though not sure,,after seeing so many gripes about speed,..

Nic for mp3 use Kazaa Lite, back on Feb 20th, you had to download a crack to make your participation level in kazaa up to 1000. A supreme neing this is called! The higher the participation level, the more file priority! Now instead of having to crack you can just download the whole thing from http://www.k-lite.tk

Well I dont really want to discuss kazaa lite too much cause this is an eMule thread!

Basically, the Kazza Lite K++ edition gives you a participation level of 1000. You should get the newest version from the link i posted earlier.

Yes eventually kazaa will slow down because of K++ but lets face it, kazaa will probably be shut down before that happens!!

The whole thing about hash ids and stuff is that each file has a hash id which is just a bunch of characters basically. But every file ahs a different id so when you click a link with a hash id in it then the p2p program will start to download that file!

With eMule, an ed2k link would have a hash id!! so when you click an ed2k link the download is added to your queue in eMule. Same thing with sig2dat (actually seems a little really similar doesnt it!! ) when you click a link on a website it will add a download to kazaa but still even with sig2dat, kazaa will never stand up to the donkey network, unless of course sharereactor and all the ed2k sites decide to change to kazaa, which isnt gonna happen ;-)

nik99 sup! u needs emule on before clicking the links on sharereactor... me think...

I have a question, how do I limit my uploads ( # of uploads, not speed ) so that people can download from me more effectively.

For Example, 5 peeplz downloading from me, my max upload is 20, so it would be divided eavenly among the 5 peeplz.

How would I go about doing this?
