TBH - to be honest
The A8R-MVP is the best option. Don't worry I'm not irritated, but you keep switching opinions. I was going to say newegg, but wondered whether you lived in Canada or not, hence ZZF.

Lol@estuansis, someone thinks along my viewpoint. Faster CPUs are necessary, but at the way games are going, faster GPUs aregoing to be more necessary. The Geforce 8800 or Radeon X2800 are going to hopefully be much better. I'd much rather play Halo 2 on a PC. But that means Vista, so I'd rather not play it all.

Damn..........I'm glad Microsoft and the hardware manufacturers don't think like that.If they did,we would all be stuck at windows 95 on pentium 90s with 16mb ram and 2 meg video cards.
and that'd be sufficient.

Computers are a huge part of my life. I just get overwhelmed with the new technology and wish that'd it would stay the same for a while so I could get caught up. Anyone agree with me?

It's very frustrating to be getting my X2 3800+ and have a whole new CPU coming out 2 months later. I feel like I'm being spit on. You guys have to relate to me on this.

Also, I just unplugged my regular Xbox from the TV and plugged into a different TV. Sound is good but no picture. When I picked it up the disk was actually still spinning and I heard it winding down on the CD tray. Disk is OK and I took it out to be sure. But still no picture. Could I have damaged the video plug on my cord when pulling it out? I hope I didn't break my Xbox. Almost none of my Xbox games work on my 360. Please help.

*breathes a huge sigh of relief* It's the cord. I think it's broken on the inside. If I straighten it out and tape it to the desk it works fine. I'm gonna get an aftermarket one from the local Gamestop anyway. Okay!

What you've got to remember is that your 3800+ won't be getting any slower over time, so if it does all you need, then why should it bother you? lol glad you sorted you're problem, but put it in the relevant thread next time.

Yes, It does all I'll ever need but it feels stupid to be weak compared a newer generation processor.

And about the Xbox... closest thread at hand... lol

Off topic- I apologize Euthanasis is your XBox modded? I have a modded PS2 and XBox, there's no going back to a standard console once you get used to a modded one. I watch movies with XBMC, play games off the HD, it's awesome. Anyway, not trying to hijack this thread, as you were gentleman.

Oh. Sudden change of mind then? With a 20+4 on a 24 I think you can just use them both and it's alright, but I'm not sure. There are some manufacturer warnings out there that caution against that I think.

Well what's that? I'm no expert on 24 pin connectors because my current setup uses 20+4 separately, which I use. I would have thought you place the 4 pin at the end of the ATX, but maybe not, I don't know.

@tokijin,

No, it's not modded. Not anymore anyway. Had to get a new hard drive after I installed Linux using a glitch in the Mechassault original disk. It was fun but right about then my Dad picked me up Halo 2:P

Sorry to interrupt you guys! Carry on with your nonsensical babble:D

@FIHSNERD,
There are 20-24 pin adapters available for around $3.
ALL mobo manufacturers recommend 24-pin native ATX for their newer mobos and warn against using adapters as voltage spikes and stability problems can occur.The extra 4 traces feed the PCI-e slot the Northbridge and memory.I'm not sure what power supply you have with regards to voltages and amps.Have a look if your not sure.If you plan to overclock you may find the psu will let you down as the extra current needed if you up the cpu/memory/chipset voltages will be to much.
Today?s computers, especially the AMD A64?s and the latest Intel P4?s stress the +12V rail the most, requiring far more amperage than was originally called for in the original ATX spec for the +12V rail.
Have a look here and fill in all the necessary information.You should then have some idea if your psu is suitable.If you find your board is unstable if you do start tweaking things(especially if your only raising voltages by .1 - .5 volts) your psu would have to be at the top of the list as a suspect.Anyway go here and see how you go:

Nonsensical babble? Charming. Yep, best PSU calculator of the lot. I'd avoid using an adapter for PCI express, but you know, some people do, some people don't.

Thats it,
check to see if your psu falls within specs for your setup,if it does,
spend the $3 and buy the adapter.If all is good,your finished.If random shutdowns start occuring then time to upgrade that power supply.

No you're not. I tried to find a cheap power supply, found one, used it and killed off a fair few components. It's NEVER worth the hassle.
Lol I have a 19" CRT too, but since it's a viewsonic Graphics series it's better than almost any LCD monitor out there. What other monitors do 2048x1536 with a <1ms response time for £150? Good reviews on that PSU, but even so, I wouldn't risk it. I'm like the third guy down, except without the noises. A silent, subtle yet brutal wave of destruction. Case looks nice though.

I just installed a 24 pin power supply on a 20 pin MB. This was a Demon Silver Chrome 480 watt PS. You can break off the extra 4 pins or, as i did in this case, just let the extras hang over the end of the MB plug. Just line up the little plastic lock tab and plug it in. The male plug has a split where you can break it off that slips over the plastic guide.

BTW. I bought an Aspire 500 watt (have to change my sig) dual 12v rail PS for around $40.00 on sale at Newegg and it works just fine. The Powmax Demon Silver Chrome 480w was even cheaper and it's been in my prescott since day one with no problems. Both give solid stable voltages and will even exceed the wattage limits during a load test before shutting down. I know because I load tested both of them. Lately I've seen a few people with PS issues, I personally have had no problems with low priced power supplys. While they usually don't have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive ones, they are far from junk. My Demon ran all last summer without benefit of air conditioning in temps as high as 34C with no problems.

Happy Computering,
theonejrs
