I know it is a 2 layer disk that has a main title of 2 hr and 10 minutes with 47% compression which just does not make any sense to me, unless there is something else going on with this video. When I did Pirates of the Caribbean it was somewhere like 2 hrs and 20 some minutes and only came out to 74%.

Are you sure? Recheck the POTC DVD compression level with the same software you're using for the DVD you're wanting to encode now.

Different movies can have different levels of compression for the same length of time so the compression levels for encoding will vary.
DVDrebuilder should do fine at this level.
Brobear,
The timings referred to previously: "AMD CAS 2-2-2-5 while putting CAS 3-3-3-8 in the P4 board" were for DDR2 on the P4 which is faster with looser timings. This is not unusual. The P4 actually had 533 to the 400 of the AMD.

In case you missed it the first time, the Intel-AMD discussion has been disccontinued on this thread. It's moved into an irrelevant stage at this point. We know faster processors equal faster encodes.

From that screen capture, the total size comes to less than 4.3GB, unless there is something you didn't show us. That means it wouldn't need to be compressed at all.

Hmmm? For the hardware biased? Seems I remember someone whose dream machine not long ago was a dual Intel Xeon processor and not an AMD. ;) And the Hardware section would be the perfect place for an open discussion on the topic, wouldn't it? ;)
How bout that Hitch Hikers guide? LOL

The ripped file was 7.7g and had 7 VOB files. I went ahead and used RB it showed compression at 54.9%. Did a two pass and it came out pretty good, could still see some noise in the background on some scenes.

Things can vary, but I've had little trouble with background noise on DVDs in the 8GB range. Was there any background "noise" in the original? Also, what kind of "noise" was it? I just backed up an old version of Conan and it was 7.82GB (ripped), it came out excellent.

What I see is a grainy appearance in the background. However, this video is part documentary and part dance video. The older clips that are incorporated are probably not all digital. Lot of them were shot in lowlight onto concert stages. The later dated clips come up perfect. So in this case it is the source video. RB did a good job with what it had and I have no complaints. Completed it in 137 minutes which is a good time. I know you can use the AvsEditor to the UnDot.dll but I have not gotten it to work, I do not think I am putting in the correct path, but I will keep experimenting with it.

Try undot on movies that have noise, it can clean some of it up.

There has been some minor questioning about the encode speeds that I've recently posted using my new machine. As we all know clock speed is the only benefit that Intel has over AMD, and even then its not that significant. If one can produce an AMD system that can come close to Intel's clock speed then Intel really hasn't any advantages left. AMD is better at just about everything else.
Encoders are among those few applications that benefits from Intel's clock speeds. But! What if AMD can approach Intel on its strengths, While leaving Intel behind on AMD's strengths? This has been my thesis and direction for building my latest PC. I think that if Intel doesn't get with the game, it's going to fall behind AMD in a major way.
To support my speed gains I did an encode of a fairly large DVD and I'm providing screen captures that are difficult to doctor.
The movie and DVD Decrypter.
RB after the movie was encoded.
Sorry I was seeing the image so I didn't know that others couldn't. Let me know if this works!

Thanks for the link, will try out those filters.

Thank you for the advice given on the other forum in regard to the AviSynth version I was using. I had the 2.56 from AD but downloaded the 2.54 put that in and tried HC again and it came out perfect, no lines no unplayable disk. That was the problem all along.

Since I'm not making any money from this, and I am telling the truth, exactly what is it that I'm selling for profit?
That was an unkind statement, it suggests that I have a monetary gain from winning this debate.
Genuine debates depend on the discovery of what's true, I only posted what I can prove to be true.
