Draggt, if you're looking for something easy, why not try Moparscape V3.2?? Its still not a 100% working server, but several skills work, and you can download files like AUTOSPAWN.CFG and whatnot to get more NPCs roaming around, but as with everything else, it takes work.

Though I must say I am amazed that you got the entire BlakeScape server up and running without managing to read the part of my tutorial which warns you that your server will be empty... This is intended to be a clean slate for people who want to come in and do something different with the "RuneScape Game Engine."

All the same though, if you're just wanting something quick and easy, google MoparScape V3.2 Download. Its a simple install file, and you'll be up and running in probably less than two minutes.

If you installed MoparScape, you'll notice a shortcut on your desktop labeld MoparScape. Run it and let it load. Then once it is loaded, the button to the left starts the private server, and the one to the right allows you to log into it and play through the MoparScape client. Its not that confusing, really, its one of the most straight-forward servers there is.

But I'll ask that if you have further issues, you will private message me, because this thread is not targeted towards MoparScape and I don't feel right dragging this messing thread further off topic. Thanks in advance, and good luck.

1) If it were that simple, there wouldn't have been some many people joining Afterdawn JUST to post in this thread.
2) Every server type is different and will require different things to run properly. Even those that are BlakeScape in origin will require different setups, so please don't think that your 11 steps will help everyone with every server.
3) You are not supposed to advertise a private server for people to play on in the forums. You may have read that in the rules, should have bothered to read them.
4) You completely skipped past people's needs to set up a DNS or static IP so as to allow their friends to connect.
5) I'm currently in the process of writting in depth guides to 10 of the most popular RuneScape Private Servers, along with pictures and step by step information in hopes of saving this already messy thread.
6) By providing people with that many options for private servers, you've basically opened this thread (designed to discuss the setup and install of BlakeScape) to a plethera of new and off-topic questions. Thanks.

I think that about sums it up... Hey look, 6 things for people to consider before the come in and try to make something seem so easy any moron can do it...

Okay, well as far as this goes, if you are able to log into the server than you know everything has worked fine. That message you were getting is rather common and will show up for about 3 out of 5.

Now as far as you missing doors and NPCs... It has been said time and time again in this post that the server we're assembling is a developer's server known as BlakeScape. It is intentionally empty and bland, so as to allow people complete control over what they do with it - a clean slate if you will.

If you're wanting to add NPCs and working doors to BlakeScape, then you're going to have to learn to work in Java using something like the Eclipe SDK from Eclispe.Org - but if you're wanting something that is more or less ready to go, then you should look into MoparScape. I'm in the process of writing step by step guides covering the most common problems and solutions for both BlakeScape, and MoparScape, so as not to drag this messy thread even further off course. If you want information on MoparScape, you can private message me here at afterdawn; wait untill my guides are posted (again, here at afterdawn); OR google it yourself and give it a try. Its rather easy to use.

Hope that clears up confusion!

Unfortunately I don't have any guides or tutorials for learning Java. But I do know where I always go when I want to learn something for free. I always link over to w3schools.com and use their tutorials. But I'm sure you can also find some at Sun MicroSystem's website (their the guys who made the Java language). Anyway, just google yourself up a nice tutorial and once you've learned the basics, you can reference it to the files that come with BlakeScape... In any case, Good Luck!!!

I tried once before to upload a nice tutorial for setting up a Dynamic IP, which you will all need when constructing a server for online play - but sadly afterdawn's guide section seems to have failed at uploading it. So I've placed it here, for the world to see http://infohub.freeforums.org/viewtopic.php?p=22#22

Hope that helps some people out.

1)Please don't double post 2)Please don't misquote anyone, even yourself. I understand you were looking for an immediate answer, but forum site just don't work that way (not even my own forum site), plus yesterday (the 7th) was my one year anniversery, so I was pre-occupied all day.

If you have followed my guides correctly, then there is little to no way for you to have gotten that error message. If what you are seeing is true, then you have failed to start your server via the run.bat option and leave it open. If you leave the window opened by the run.bat file, then you will be able to connect to your server with no problem, unless your windows firewall or something automatically has the ports blocked off. And, if that was the case, then you would have to read within the Run.Bat window to see what ports it is being broadcasted over.

But, more probable - you simply failed to read and follow my guide in its entirety, which makes me really want to repeat this fact so I don't have to re-explain it later: BlakeScape is a BLANK SERVER - NO MONSTERS, NOTHING. Just an empty world with all the buildings, no working doors or stairs.

[Updated for slight grammatical errors, others may still exist]

If anyone is getting the Javac error, right click compile.bat, delete everything in it and paste this into it:

"C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_03\bin\javac.exe" *.java
pause

The problem was that it was trying to open javac.exe, but assumed that it was in the same folder as compile.bat resides. Obviously, it isn't, so redirecting it works.

It seems that's the only thing you need to edit to get it running perfectly.

Redirecting does 'work' on some machines. But because of cerain Operating Systems running into problems with the compiler, the best solution is to relocate the files in the folder with the javac compiler. This prevents all sorts of nasty problems that can arise.
