I just returned my 2nd Epson r200 to Staples, and now my 3rd one is already acting up and leaving little treadmarks on every disc in the same place. I am finally starting to wonder if maybe the epson ink is supposed to be with/without the little pieces of tape on the bottom that they come with (where the hole is). I just left all the tape on the ink, and now its almost impossible to take it off now that i used the ink, but it would be a lot of help if anyone could tell me whether or not you are supposed to take off the tape of the Epson brand ink. Thanks.

If i remember rightly you are supposed to remove the tape, I returned every one of my epson r 200s after bad experiences with them. Bought a canon i865 Loved it not an ounce of problem, then went and bought a canon ip4000 even better

I have had zero trouble with my epson 200 so far and I have had it for a few months. Ink cartridges are at about 1/2 but I dont print all my backed up dvd's.

I looked up those Canon printers that you named, but i think canon might not have a printer that prints cds available in the US for some reason. I know with the i865 it specifically says that the cd-r head doesnt come with the US models.

Also, just checking again- so the tape on the ink does get taken off?

Hello Atmos..I'm not being chippie....BUT when u have something new its not good to assume...sometimes its better to read some of the instructions that come with products..Sounds like all your problems have been of your own making..when u get your ink it says right on that little piece of tape..REMOVE

I'm not sure about the epson ink, but the ink I buy from abacus has 2 pieces of tape. I pull off the yellow tape, but there is a thick/clear tape on the bottom of the cartridges, with about a 2 mm hole punched through it. I leave the clear tape that's on the bottom on,and remove the yellow tape.

My full hub printables turn out sweet, despite my epson r-200 being slammed to the ground by my soon to be ex-wife, LOL

Hi All--
I just thought I would chime in as I have been watching this thread and currently have 2 of the Epson Stylus Photo R200 printers.
I bought the second one when my wife (also soon to be ex!)took mine to use with her computer--even though she does not print on media--mostly just photo's and letters.
My experience with both printers has been great (after a rocky start learning process!)--the disks look professional--
I also buy an aftermarket ink that I get from Supermediastore from a company called G&G--also has the piece of yellow tape and YES, it does have to be REMOVED.
Best of all is that I got the new printer for $49 US after rebate from CompUSA.
Good Luck!

First off, i dont know why someone said i was assuming anything without reading the instructions, because i did read all the instructions and thats why i didnt know. They say nothing about removing the tape. And I just recieved this email from Epson:

Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection.

The small clear plastic at the bottom of the ink cartridge must remain
there, do not remove it. When the cartridge is inserted into the printer
the print head will puncture that piece and it then creates a seal around
the that hole and helps to prevent ink from leaking into the printer.

So I really dont see how my problems are of my own doing, even though i wish they were. I wish i knew anything about what my problem is since this is the 3rd printer with the same annoying problem.

Sorry to hear you are having so many problems. I - like Whitfield & MultiCopr - have had no problems with mine - a R320. I've printed probably 200+ discs.
Have you mailed Epson about this specific problem?
Unfortunately the Conon's are only sold in Europe.

Yes I have emailed epson about that specific problem (that response from them earlier was not the only one I've had). I've also talked to them on the phone a few times. The only explanation they gave was that it may be coincidental and all the machines from this area are defected? Doesnt seem likely to me and I think I am going to end up paying for something else that works. Maybe I need an Epson r320, but then again it may be defected.

Anyway, I am not looking forward to returning my 3rd printer to staples, no matter who's fault it is.

I know what to do about the cd tray not loading. It's a bug in the system but very easy to work around.
First make sure you have room behind to printer 7 - 8 inh. should be enough. When ready to print cd, load tray as directed in manual. The tray should not catch and will feed out the frount and you will get a red light and an error telling you to reload the tray. Pull the tray out all the way reload to arrows and put a little pressure against the front of the tray so it cant feed out. Then press the red light button, i belive it the maintance button. You should hear the tray trying to load. With you still putting pressure on the front of the tray ( i use just one finger) While you hear the traying to load tap it forward gently with your one finger and the tray will catch and align and print as normal. Prints CD/DVD great.
I am waiting for Epson to come up with a solutions. This works on R200 & R300 that I know about.

Goodluck

I received my R300 last Friday and I must say it's an awesome printer overall. I printed 5 DVDs so far - I could hardly tell the differences from the original dvd and mine. I guess it's because Adobe Photoshop is a useful tool and I'm pretty much experienced on Photoshop as well.

Happy burning and making DVDs...!!!

Regarding two posts.
1. Should you remove the tape?
The tape on the top edge of the cartridge has to be removed. It will usually be yellow or a color. This tape keeps the vacuum inside the cartirdge and when it is remove it allowed the ink to flow out of the cartirdge correctly. In other words this breaks the vacuum which keeps it from leaking while being shipped and before you insert it in your printer.
The clear patch on the bottom edge is punctured by your printer when you insert it and it activates the cartridge. This is where the ink comes out of the cartridge.

2. Some people are having problems with the DVD CD tray not being pulled into the printer. I had the same problem while mine was under warranty. Put in the factory suggeted shop and they ordered a new tray from Epson and this solved the problem. The tray was wore out.

The Epson R200 and R300 are great printers and do the job very well.

I sent a e-mail to epson support and they sent me a new CD tray. It's different than the one that came with the printer. It does not have the clear plastic lead where you feed the tray into.
So I took the original tray I had and removed the clear plastic lead. It's stuck with glue. And my old one work great so I have two trays now.
If the plastic does not come off easy, heat it up a bit under a light bulb

Epson change the CD/DVD tray a little, The clear plastic lead is gone and they have two little bumps and extention where the plastic use to be. If Epson won't replace the tray, just remove the plastic. It works a lot better. Not 100% but nothing a little tap wont fix.

I have not been able to find any silver inkjet hub printables. I only use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media. They are matte unlike the Ridata which has a glossier look. Still look great though. For the silver ones (non hub) I buy them from http://supermediastore.com.
