Hi,
Whilst this thread touches on printing I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to print a CD booklet? I use CoverXP for all my printing but Ive realised that im going to have to be able to print on both sides to get the desired results.
Any help much appreciated

so I recently bought an R220 (the only Epson model in stock that I could find in stores) for the sole purpose of CD/DVD labels (I have another printer for all other tasks) and was wondering if the the R3-- series has any notable upgrades for CD/DVD labeling that would be worth searching and spending more on. For example better software, sturdier hardware, etc.
Also, I have some white inkjet printable DVDs that I have already written on with a black sharpie and I was wondering if I printed over the label would I still see the black writing that I had done previously? Thanks for any help.

I'm afraid you will see the writing you did before, if you print on top of it. The printer doesn't use a thick layer of ink, so it doesn't cover up.
As far as I know, there's no upgrades. The software is already excellent, and the hardware itself is as sturdy as any printer I've seen. It doesn't really need an upgrade.
Sorry, if that's not what you wanted to hear.........

Actually thats just what I wanted to hear. That way I can be happy with my R220 and not have to worry about spending money on the new more expensive models when the functionality I will be using is the same.

One more difference........
The PrintCD software for the R220 and R320, etc., allows going down to 18mm, for the print to center printable discs. The R200 only goes to 20mm. I downloaded and installed the PrintCD software that came with a guy's R320, and it still only goes down to 20mm, on my R200.
Must have something to do with the limitations of the hardware itself.

@VJbob,
You CAN remove Sharpie permanent ink. Try on a coaster first, as on some discs you can remove the finish, and you may not be pleased with the outcome. I don't have a cd/dvd printer, nor have used printable media, so unable to tell you how this will turn out.
Use a cotton puff, soft rag, or tissue, dip in nail polish remover, squeeze out most of the liquid. Do a quick swipe to remove the ink. Immediately wash your disc carefully with mild dish soap and tepid water. Rinse and dry with a clean, soft, no lint cloth, center of hub to outside.

great thanks for the info guys. I may try to remove the sharpie ink if I'm happy with how the printable discs turned out (still haven't opened my printer box but will likely soon thanks to rick5446 and JVC.
Been wondering though, can the heat generated from the player and the disc spinning cause the ink to melt and splatter inside the player? The fact that the ink will smear and run when touched by water makes me suspicious.

I recently purchased a R200 secondhand and it didn't come with the software for it. I was able to load the driver from the website, but they don't have the print cd software that allows you to print to the cd.
my question is...is there an alternative solution to using that software, or is there a place where i can download it. its not on the epson website.

VJbob,
I buy tons of previously viewed games and dvds. A lot of stores use sharpies to identify as theirs, so when I expressed my displeasure one store gave me the tip on how to remove:)
I find some finishes on media flake off, while others are fine. Sharpie Ink on originals comes off great using this method.

Cory_ag..Better late then never..Memorex are Ritek
Ordinary household Rubbing Alchol will do the trick. But on a white faced Disc anything U use will leave a stain.HINT!!!Spread the stain around & make the disc consistent. All though U will still see the writing a little darker U truely can't get it all

In most ink jet printer's software, there is a "Tools" area. There you can click on a button to put it through a head cleaning process. On my HP, I've had to run the head cleaning process, maybe a dozen times, one after another. After the process, print the test sheet. If it's not right, clean them again, and keep on, until it's right.
The only thing is, it uses ink each time you do this. If you have to do it a lot of times, you could use a good bit of ink. But if it's not printing right............
Do what you gotta do.
Good luck!

Just wondering if anyone has the Epson Stylus Photo RX580??
I cant get the cd tray to load?? I lined it up like they said and it tells me that "the usb or disc is not inserted"? Epson says that its compatible with Acoustica CD DVD Label Maker, but it doesnt't even list the 580 as a coice for printers. Doesn't work for yet.
anyone have a clue??

The only Epson I can find locally is the R260 at Circuitcity. But I cannot tell if it uses the same ink as the R200/300. Does anyone know? And how bad is ink usage. Im using a cheap Lexmark for now and it EATS ink!(not to mention quality stinks ..lol)

So what if it refurbished....! That's still a good deal.
I got my R320 refurbished also for about that price. Works just like one that'ts brand new. No difference at all in the quality.
