Hi there.

You may not have noticed that Memorex is regarded as pathetic garbage media which are NOT good for your laser. So I'd stick to the Verbatim and ditch the memorex before you burn out your laser's lifespan much quicker than it should ;)

THANK YOU for help. ITS APPRECIATED

Are they legit Taiyo Yuden? Check the media ID with ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter.

Ok, I highly recommend you burn at either 4-8x, and definetly not at 16x. Some PS2s have difficulty playing 16x discs, but mines plays them fine, so I think you should just burn them at a much lower speed. Try 8, then if to no avail, try 4 :)

ok ill do that i ordered a new laser anyway just to make sure its not a tech spec issue, by the by though i was told that it wasn't the burning speed that was the issue it was actually the 16x TYG03s that were the problem and that they mess up on the ps2 any one have any opinions on that i would like to cover this all over thanks for the help

If they are authentic Taiyo Yuden discs then the media is not an issue. I still think it is the burning speed, so I reccomend you burn at 8x then 4x if 8 doesen't work.

it's not even like thats a problem I've burnt it on 4x and 8x got the same issues, to be fair i did burn a dvd film on 8x and it was stuttering and skipping on my ps2 played everywhere else fine so i really hope it is a laser problem ^^

Sounds as if it is a laser issue if the games wont play after burned at a slower speed.

I have a problem with my PS2. It can read discs but it loads games VERY SLOW. I opened the PS2 and tweaked the gear, and now games skip.

Which way is better, the laser higher or lower, to fix skipping games and slow loading?

Also, what does the setting "Disk Speed" do? You know, press Triangle on the main screen, then pressing Triangle on PlayStation Driver. If I change it from "Standard" to "Fast", will it make a difference?

It won't make much of a difference, but I'd keep it on standard.

As for the laser playing slowly, for backups or originals? If backups only then use better media and burn at a slower speed. If backups and/or originals, then put the laser all the way to the bottom and work your way up slowly, finding that sweet spot.

Hey there
How are you all?

I backed up Need For Speed Carbon today and played it twice turning the machine off in between, with no problems. I use Swap Magic + Flip Top
Now I go to play it and it will only go to a black screen.
I have tried 10+ times and it will no longer load.
Anyone have any ideas that might help me out?
Thank you in advance!

I am using fujufilm 8x DVD-R
Which are TYG02
So I know that can't really be the problem

the game will now load up everytime, but it will pause during races in order to load the rest of the race. And I dont quite get it because it worked perfect the first two times.
any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hmm, try either rebuilding the game or try burning onto Verbatim/Taiyo Yuden DVD-R at half the maximum speed.

Hey there everyone! I'm very new to ps2 backups but i have been reading every post on this site for about a month now. I recently got a swap magic 3.8 Coder and i have run into a little problem.

it seems that the games that i bit torrent burn well and run well(if i find a torrent that isnt fake or corrupt) in my ps2. but when i try to back them up myself they're verry skippy and of poor quality.

i just ordered 100 8x premium taiyo's from supermedia and will recieve them on the fifth and am currently using maxell to tide me over. do you think the media is to blame or is it perhaps my burner? It is a pioneer, thats about all i know about it.

any information and help is greatly appreciated. Fhery

Hi there Mik3h, thanks for the nice guide it help me alot.

I have several questions reguarding the boot up.

Please let me tell you my situation. I recently brought the matrix infinity modchip, the green dot version, it has the firmware of 1.88. I have managed to set up the mod chip correctly. Basically, I tested out the chip to see if it was playing any out of regional dvds, and it worked. Plus when I was playing my original Ps2 games, it work out fine. However when I was trying to use any my back up copies of ps2 games( Just to let you know they are japanese games).

It would not boot. It keeps sending me to the red screen. All my games are about 1 gigbit to 4 gigbits. So I didn't rebuild them I just burned the iso to a Verbatim DVD-R that can go 16x writing speed at about 8x speed. I didn't booktyping any of the iso when I burned them. By the way, my dvd writer doesn't have the booktyping function.

My questions are that:

1) Why do I keep see the red sony screen where it ask me to insert a formatted ps2 games? It work out for my import dvds.

2) Do I absolutely need to booktype the iso files to become dvd rom just to play it in my ps2 ? I might thinking about buying a new dvd writer just so I can use the booktyping function. What are the good dvd players that have this function for under a 100 dollars?

3)Thanks for reading my question!

Fheyr - Sounds like your Maxell media, Taiyo Yuden should solve the problem, provided they are real, legit Taiyo Yudens :)

zeheero - It doesen't sound like the booktype, because even my burner can't booktype either, so don't invest in a new burner yet! :)

What I would do, is check you have legit verbatim discs, so put in the disc, and launch "dvd decrypter" or "Imgburn" which you can download from google, and click mode>iso>write and wait for the panel on the right hand side to load.

Now where it says "media code" I want you to tell me that code. It may be MCC then a few numbers, so what I'd like you to do is give me that code so I can check you have real quality verbatim there.

Now, have you tried any other games that are not import on those discs? Import should not make a difference, the file system is the same. So try backing up an original game to one of those verbatim DVDs.

Thanks, let me know.

hey mik3h, my taiyo's are doing worse then my maxells!

i dont get it, i burned madden 07 to a maxell at 8x and it worked alright, with a bit of skipping here and there but i just burned it to a legit taiyo(tyg02) at 4x and it has audio problems as well as being stuck at a loading screen.

please help. i used dvd decryptor but did not book type as a rom. i dont know how to booktype since dvd decryptor does not have a tab for pioneer.
