@Yujenh
Go for it brother... I got 200 some time back and have about 75 left and had only one coster, and that is because for some reason my 1ClickDVDPro5 does not like the TYGO3- At SMS they were sold as TYG02 but got TYG03 dont really care other then I burn the TYG03 @ 8x but CloneDVD and other progies love the TYG03. Grab as much as you can...I mean really Their TYs so its a win win just cheaper thats all.

I couldn't stand it!! I got 100 of them coming for $26.99 and I'll just have to beg for forgiveness instead of permission. lol. Reading that last post tells me they have TYG03's instead of the TYG02's. Oh well like herrick said they're TY's.

greensman,
Taiyo Yuden developed the first workable CD-R in the early 1990s and patented the cyanine dye that they used. The first discs were very unstable (much like Agfa's first ferric-cobalt tapes that TDK stabilized for cassette use), and other dye manufacturers worked on dye materials that were more stable. Mitsui and Ciba Geigi came up with a phthalocyanine version while MKK stabilized the cyanine dye with the addition of metalizers that made the dye look blue. TY made modifications to the cyanine dye to improve its stability, but it still differs from phthalocyanine in its reaction time to heat (long write strategy and good performance at slow write speeds with more difficulty at the higher write speeds) and faster degradation in the presence of light, heat, and humidity. TY probably sticks with the dye because it does produce good recordings and because they own the patent on it. (Royalties and patents are the reason we have +R/-R/-RAM, CompactFlash, SD, xD, Memory Stick, MMC, Blu-ray, HD DVD, VHS, Betamax, etc. Standards are great--that's why everybody has his own!)
Phthalocyanine does not react the same at the shorter wavelengths required for DVDs, and neither that dye nor cyanine works at the end of the visible spectrum used by blue-violet lasers. The BD-R and HD DVD-R media use different organic dyes or combinations of silicon and copper that are fused together. The environmental stability of the blue laser stuff is no better than the first CD-Rs, but it will get better with more experience.

Actually, I think if you try to buy a new CD only burner these days, it will cost you a fortune. Could be wrong though.. ?

I'm going over now to probably waste 13 bucks. I'll let everyone know!
EDIT: I checked the ad again. There is no mention of what the media is. With a magnifying glass was able to discern the reason. They're CD-Rs. No wonder they were so cheap. At least I saved a trip!!

@ripper
read above edit. didn't get my money. I'm using some crappy Maxell CMC mags now for stocking stuffer movies for others and to be honest they are burning 3 at a time with no coasters. I don't know what they play like tho. LOL

And oh well, if you're not getting any coasters, then just go on holiday 6 months down the line when they stop playing ;-)

I really don't care. The ones I keep are on TY T02s!!LOL
Maybe that's the "out" for breaking the law by copying discs. If you use CMC Mags, then when you get caught, you make sure the trial is 6 mo post burn and there will be no evidence that you really ever copied said movie!!! LMAO

LOL. Yeah, it's like a failsafe for getting caught by the RIAA or MAFIAA or whatever. lol!! I think this would stand up in court quite well.
"Well, don't worry, they won't even play in 2 months!"
:-)

Nope, go for the 6 channel one buddy,
Remember, 6 pack good, 2 pack bad.
6 channel good, 2 channel bad.
